This is a very well regarded store that specializes in stringed musical instruments--violin, violas, cellos, basses. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, but it helps to ask for the person who specializes in your instrument. Dalton Potter is the owner and quite knowledgeable about everything (if you are lucky enough to catch him in.) They have an excellent rental shop which provides 100 percent credit of the rent towards the purchase price. You can trade up (either in size or quality) quite easily. They will special order things for you. I was extremely pleased with the service I received when I was looking for a new bow.
The biggest negative is the size of the shop. Even though it is in two different buildings, the space is quite limited and feels extremely crowded. It is not comfortable to be in there when there are more than 3 customers. I feel like I am going to bump into an instrument or knock something off a shelf. I usually call first to ensure it is not to crowded and I avoid it when school starts. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

They only work on Volvos...but they are so good that you want to own a Volvo just so they can be your auto repair place. They are the most honest business I have ever encountered. When we first moved here my brake light came on my car and I needed someone to look at it quickly. I was so new I didn't even know anyone to ask about repair places so I called all the dealers and was told there was a minimum wait of two weeks...despite explaining the near emergency nature of my problem. No avail. So I started down the Yellow Pages..and got to the Bs and reached Bethesda Imports...Mike Cunningham (the owner) answered the phone...two week wait for an appointment...I explained the problem...only car, brake light etc...he said "Bring it in." He fixed it. He then made sure we didn't get ripped off when we had our cars inspected for the mandatory Maryland inspection (and the "certified " place did try) and has had our business ever since. We also ended up buying a used Volvo from him for a second car--he gets and sells refurbished cars that he gets from the auctions. You can even tell him what you are looking for and what colors ...and he'll buy it for you to try...no commitment. Wow.

This is the place to go to find a classical music recording. It appears to be a typical Tower Record store when you first walk in--noisy and crowded, but follow the signs to the classical "section" and you will be rewarded with a "store within a store". The Classical section is its own world--a light filled room, sonically sealed from the rest of the store with classical music playing and more cds for sale than anywhere else in town. The music is logically arranged and easy to find. the staff is knowledgeable and service oriented. There's even an entire row of Naxos recordings so if you are looking for a cheap copy of something...that's also easy to find. I had read that this was the place to go, but when I finally went I was truly amazed at how wonderful this store is. It is a little bit of a trek for those of us who live in or near DC but well worth it the trip down Wisconsin.

This is the quintessential diner...no tables, just a counter....and a short order cook taking and making the burgers. Don't be put off by the decor. This is where everyone who works hard for a living comes to eat lunch--the burgers and gyros are the favorites. After only a few visits the owner/cook --Peter--knows your name--come at night and the night cook--Manny--knows your name and what your usual order is. (Heck we've come so often he recognizes us when we call in an order to pick it up on the way home. ) There's parking in the back and you can walk thru the kitchen to get to the counter. You can also reserve the whole place for a party--and the cost is only the cost of the food you order during the party.
