Philly AIDS Thrift opened a few months ago. It's staffed by volunteers and all proceeds (I believe) will be donated to AIDS organizations in Philadelphia. They have a great selection of stuff, and they accept pretty much anything you want to donate. They also have a great sense of humor, as evidenced by their snakrkily wonderful descriptions on stuff. You can get some great deals at this thrift store, and it's for a good cause as well!

I just discovered this new shop the other week, and my goodness it's gorgeous. It carries a huge line of bags, from purses to totes to laptop bags, along with some wallets and those really cute Poire cellphone pouches. The bags are mostly very pricey (expect to see prices range up to a couple of hundred dollars a bag) but they're functional and beautiful. The service is friendly and the store is clean and sleek. A great place to drop quite a lot of cash (or window shop).

This a a great toystore for those who like the simpler joys of stuffed animals, paper dolls, and wooden toys. THey have a great selection of Curious George, Olivia, and Muppet Show dolls and toys, and a large selection of high-end Barbie-type dolls at the back of the store. This is a great place to go to get gifts of all the kids you know. Happily Ever After is the store on Pine that has the bubble machine going on the sidewalk all summer.

Like it's sister cinema Ritz at the Bourse, the one drawback here is having to stand outside to wait for tickets. The entrance/exit can get very crowded and awkward as well. Aside from that, this is a wonderful theatre. It is well maintained and comfortable, the movies are first rate (with decent prints) and the snacks are tasty. Matinees are a bit cheaper than evening shows.

The one drawback to this theatre is that you have to wait in line for the tickets outside. Fine in good weather, but when it's cold or rainy it sucks. Once in though, the theatre is great. The screening rooms are comfortable (if one the small side) and miracle of miracle, patrons are actually pretty respectful during the movies (no cell phones or loud talking).

Little Fish is tiny. So tiny that the cooks have to leave the restaurant to get to the next building to wash up. The food, however, is wonderful. Fresh seafood is the order of the day, and you won't know what's on the menu until you see the daily menu board. It's not cheap, but the quality is worth it. Reservations are a necessity. I recommend dinner at Little Fish and then going around the corner to Dessert for dessert.

Tattooed Mom has, hands down, the best club sandwiches in the city. This is great place to go for cheap pub food. They also have cider on draft. There are some detractions. It is very loud, even when it is not crowded, as the music is turned up too high. You will leave smelling of cigarette smoke. Other than that, the food makes up for a lot.

American Pie now shares a space with Abode, and it's a great match. Although we have lost some of the whimsical knick-knacks that made their earlier store such a joy, there are some wonderful things in the new place, along with the beautiful Abode furniture. They have a nice Judaica section and some lovely cards as well.

I like going into Abode to just to look. The furniture is gorgeous - but very pricy. This is to be expected for such lovely handmade stuff. Also, the scale seems to be for large spaces. So once I get a big house and lots of money, I'm totally furnishing it with Abode stuff. Until then, I will admire from afar (and console myself with some of their smaller items)
