The first time I needed a Taxi service in Houma, I called Tommy's Cab. Ok, so I understand that there is a total stereotype of cab drivers. The Stereotype is that they are dirty, filthy, rude, and unpleasant people to be around for most part. I never really believed much of this because I've had some nice cab drivers in Chicago, New Orleans, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Calgary, etc. and other larger cities. Houma is in no way metroplitan though, and that stereotype rang true with this person that came to get me. The cab itself had a very unpleasant odor and the interior looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years, and that smell was pretty much giving way to that belief in my head. I had a uncomfortable ride to my destination filled with smelly interior and no conversation except "$5.50"

Southland Cinema is a pretty good place to go see a movie if you are on a budget. So what if they are a few months older than the ones at the palace, you just can't beat $1.98 for a movie! And their concessions are relatively inexpensive too, compared to the Palace. This cinema is located inside of southland mall. if you have lived in houma for a long time, you'll know that is used to be a regular cinema, then shut down for a few years, and re-opened this year as a dollarplex. It's a great bargain, although you may have to put up with a dirty ambiance as they don't seem to clean the cinemas that often, but the price still makes it totally worth the mess.

I feel sorry for the people who have to work here, because the administrative department seems to not care about anyone but themselves and the almighty dollar. My business has had the complete misfortune to have to deal with these people, and when they screwed up our order, they tried to make it look like our fault and wanted to charge us more, even after we had provided them with them with enough information to get what we needed welded by a kidnergarner who knew nothing about welding. I didn't understand their complaints and we have had a meeting where I suggested we not use them, so half way though the project we canceled it and they still billed us for it, most businesses would have just billed us for the product they had ready, they billed us for the original estimate. Do not do Business with them, you will get ripped off.

The few times me and my friend have been subjected to hanging out at The Pit Stop late at night because Boudreau & Thibodeau's was too crowded, or we just didn't feel like going there again, we usually end up at the Pit Stop. This is a nasty little place filled with school cafeteria-like chairs and tables, and waitresses that might as well smoke when they bring you your meals. And smoke is what you will inhale in the Pit Stop, and a lot of it, it is a very very smoky place, and there seems to be a huge cloud of the stuff that just lingers in the air. The jukebox is stocked with all your quintessential white trash collections, and the food is mediocre, and sometimes terrible. So if you have a choice, go somewheres else and don't eat here, it's a really terrible atmosphere.

If you want to meet friends for coffee or brunch or even at 1a.m. you can do it here, at Boudreau & Thibodeau's, they are open 24 hours a day and don't complain when you come in with a few people and all you order is coffee and stay there for hours, like my friends and I do. They have some really good food too, the appetizer menu is actually pretty good portions on it. Great Cheese Sticks, Fried Mushrooms, and Appetizer Baskets. You can also get some pretty good hamburgers, po-boys, and seafood dishes from there too, my favorite being the crawfish pasta and the stuffed flounder. Their Baked potatoes are usually really good too and they have wonderful gumbo as well! The Waitresses are usually really nice, but once in a while you get this one waitress with an attitude problem, if you get her, you'll know what I'm talking about. Some things on the menu really aren't worth what you pay for though.

Big Al's is the best place on the East side for a good meal. It has a really awesome menu, mostly Cajun cuisine, and a laid back atmosphere. The food is awesome, and if you're in the mood, try their frozen cappuccino, it is to die for! My favorite dish here is probably the Crawfish Fettuchini Alfredo, it is really good and I haven't found a better match of it in Houma. Big Al's sometimes has a huge crowd because of its popularity, and that is probably it's biggest drawback, also the wait staff can sometimes be temper mental and annoyed. Try to ignore them and if the problem is big enough just ask to speak to a manager. Wednesday is all you can eat catfish night ! If you're in the mood for good Cajun food, head on over to Big Al's, its really is a great place to eat some great Cajun food!

I recently visited Nam Thanh for the first time, despite having worked in village east for a number of years at one time. I was actually impressed! I came there to try to find my favorite Chinese Green Tea, but Couldn't so I poked around there, and unlike most Asian markets, I wasn't yelled at to buy something, or pushed out of the store for staying too long. They actually asked if they could help and I told the guy that I was looking for something in particular and they didn't have it. I didn't leave empty handed, I felt like I had to buy something. If you like soy milk, it's a good place to get it cheap! Please be patient with the older people there though, their English isn't that good, but usually they have a younger man working there that speaks English perfectly. The store is clean, too, unlike many Asian markets. I was really impressed with the tidinesses of the place, but not too impressed with the selection of stuff, which mostly seemed Vietnamese related, hardly any Chinese or Japanese products.

I really really dislike salespeople that seem offish as if they think you don't have money to buy anything so they just kind of look down on you. I especially hate this when I have money and see something I want to buy for my mother that she would love. The reason I hate it is because I usually remind them what their job is and to drop the attitude, and then I ask to speak the manager so I can tell him/her that they just lost a $400 sale because their employees have attitude problems. This is what my experience was like at Zale's in Southland Mall. Being around places like this, I wonder how some of these people even hold down jobs. I know if I were to be that rude or uninterested in my job description, I would be fired!

I was very impressed by their selection and size of their store, maybe that is what caused me to want to expect a lot more from their staff. Like a lot of places around here, the people aren't friendly enough or looking like they care if you want to do business with them or not. I don't understand companies that run this way, and have no idea how they stay in business. The Salesperson that I was talking to at the time of being here actually seemed to believe that I wasn't going to buy anything and even seemed to want to rush me in and out of the place. I couldn't believe it, so I left and went elsewhere. I refuse to be treated like an empty wallet at places.

When my mom was wanting to have her kitchen remodeled and her bathroom floors re-tiled, I didn't know where to turn, I flipped through the phone book and called a lot of different people and they all sound generic and boring, but Barrett Interior stuck out for some reason. The person I talked to on the phone was very courteous and eager to get my business. After calling a few more, I decided to call them and I brought mom the next day. They sat us down and asked us questions about what we wanted and how much we wanted to spend, they came up with some really good ideas and we finally decided to work with them. They were fast, accurate and courteous the whole way through. You may pay a little more, but you'll have the peace of mind of knowing you'll get quality work and someone to guide you through the whole process.
