We had pictures of our daughter made at 6 months, and I cannot tell you how pleased we were with Janet's work. She really captured our daughter on film. The session was supposed to be 1 hour and she spent 2 with us. She has her own young child and was very comfortable with the patience babies require. When we had some difficulties with the proofs, she was incredibly gracious, generous, and professional, and we were very pleased with the final product. She is expensive, but I think she's comparable to high quality photographers in the area. she's worth it.

This little neighborhood children's shop recently expanded to offer consignment. Used selection seems organized and well-screened. New items are pricey but they are a small independent store I want to stay around. Their inventory is unique and of high quality. Toys are interesting and promote creativity. It's not your standard stuff. Give them a look!

Monsoon is quite a find. This sleek Capitol Hill joint (across from Kingfish) has a very interesting menu which has yet to disappoint. It's not your typical Vietnamese, but the combinations are quite impressive. We were wow-ed by all our dishes. Atmosphere is sophisticated. Prices were reasonable for the quality. Give it a try!

It's great to have a neighborhood bookstore finally! Carol, the owner, is a resident and a warm, helpful entrepreneur. She has a good stock and her staff write interesting recommendations. Space isn't huge, but it has plenty of selection while still having room to move around. She has been doing cannelloni on Saturday afternoons so stop by and have a feast for your mind and stomach.

I have gotten my haircut here for awhile but my stylist left and I am not as happy with my new one. However, I had a fabulous massage with Rebecca. She set a wonderful, relaxing mood and was so skillful in finding my knots and aches. She used hot stones that were incredibly soothing. I was quite pregnant at the time and she seemed to maneuver my body very easily. A great experience. The salon itself has a nice atmosphere as well.

Queen Anne Presbyterian Church is a warm, welcoming spiritual community that has been around for 100 years. Located on 5th and Howe near the Community Center, many longtime residents attend. There are also many families with young children. The church has an active seniors ministry, children's program, and outreach to homeless families. Rev. Early is delightfully friendly and delivers thought-provoking messages. You should know it is a small community but one that is welcoming and dedicated.

This is a new joint in lower Queen Anne where Nonna Maria used to be. I went with a big group of girlfriends and many of them got the scallops which they found too salty. I got the pork which was incredible. Salad was fine, nothing special. Desserts were to die for -- we were all moaning and groaning at all the different ones we tried including a great chevre cheesecake. Atmosphere didn't seem very Seattle - a bit stark and space was oddly laid out.

This neighborhood joint has incredible food and a really warm, artsy atmosphere. There is even a back deck for those warm nights (!?). It has totally vegetarian fare and sometimes the menu with its exotic ingredients is indecipherable to me, but the staff are always willing to explain and the food has always been spectacular. yum, yum.

I found this little gem in Capitol Hill just east of the highway on my quest for a decent sandwich. The sandwiches are incredible -- so tasty and some unusual combinations. Drunken chicken will sweep you off your feet. Several slow pork options. Most (all?) are made on great baguettes. Prices have gone up a bit but you get what you pay for.
