Lovingly Grilled Yakitori 8/6/2005

This is one of those New York restaurants that seems to have a constant clientele of regulars: how else would you explain the fact that it always seems to be crowded, even though it's well hidden on the second floor of an office building in midtown with only a tiny entrance and sign from the street? Regardless, if you know about this place, and drop in, you'll probably end up liking it, assuming you have any interest in Yakitori - which are basically Japanese grilled kebabs of various types. Totto specializes not just in Yakitori, but quite particularly in various sorts of Chicken Yakitori. Apparently, they get their chickens from some special organic farm in upstate New York, which is why they even dare to offer Chicken sashimi. Yes, that's right, they offer raw chicken. I didn't feel brave enough to try that, but rest assured, their grilled chicken is quite good. Plan to order about 3 or more yakitori items per person. Since you will probably not get very full just on chicken sticks, plus they're quite pricey, don't forget to order a rice ball or something as well. more
