I'm somewhat used to getting ripped off at the UPS store. I mean, I once was charged $14 to have an item repackaged. I understand that they need to make a profit on the products and services they provide, but the treatment I got was insane.
I rented a mailbox there for 6 months. $108. Everything was fine. When it came time for my box to expire, I decided I didn't want to renew. I asked about forwarding and was told by Rick it would be a $1 service charge plus the cost of a Priority Mail stamp per day that I got mail. I thought that seemed excessive, so I decided not to have it forwarded.
Now it just so happened that I would be out of town on the date that my mailbox expired, so I went in and asked (a different employee) if they could just do me a favor and hold my mail for 5 days. He said fine.
Rick calls me 2 days later, when I'm in Atlanta. He says they can't hold my mail. I ask why the hell not, since his employee told me specifically that he would since it was for a short period of time. He responded that they don't do anything for free. I said fine, ok, whatever, I'm a little mad that I was told the wrong thing but hey it happens. How about this: I'll pay you the $1 that you would charge me for forwarding my mail to hold it for a week.
First he says no, you can extend your mailbox for a month for $38. Then he says ok, I'll hold your mail instead of forwarding it for $7.85. I ask, why $7.85? He says that's $1 plus the cost of the PM stamp, $6.85. I say that PM stamps are $3.85. He says we upcharge. I say, you really think upcharging 80% on a product is fair? He says I run my business the way I see fit, blah blah, been here 10 years, blah blah. I said fine. If you make a $3 profit on the stamp plus $1 charge, I'll give you $4. He absolutely blows up on me, telling me this is not a negotiation.
Anyone who has that kind of a lack of temper for one of his CUSTOMERS, who's just trying to make a very short-term temporary arrangement, shouldn't be in business. I was ready to get another box here in the future if the need ever arose, but now I'm warning everyone I know off of this place.
(Please note that this is only regarding the UPS store at 113 McHenry. I cannot comment on the quality of service at other locations.)

It hasn't changed much since I first went here (fifteen years ago, man I'm old!). They advertise that they have the "Best fries east of Idaho," and it might be true. Their fries are the seasoned kind, salty and spicy all at the same time.
They do standard fast-food fare, burgers and hot dogs and fries, plus pasta, pizza, and excellent gyros. You'll pay a little more than you would at a chain place, but it's worth it.
(They're closed for remodeling until the end of September).

This is the cleaners I use for routine stuff. They'll have it ready for you in either 1 or 2 days, clean, pressed, ready to go. They'll also box shirts rather than hang them if you ask, and they'll do a military crease in the back if you prefer your shirts that way (I do). One nice thing they do is that they honor any competitor's coupon on any job more than $10.

This is the only one of these I've ever come across. These folks will actually have your clothes cleaned and pressed, ready to go in ONE HOUR. Seriously. I can't get over this. Not by Friday, not tomorrow after 5--you need it today, sir? Come back in an hour. Ridiculously fast. If you've ever spilled something on your dress uniform that you're supposed to wear to a Marine Corps Ball in three hours (I have) you know how valuable a service like this is.
You pay just a bit more--I don't use this place all the time, only when I need something fast. But for what they do it's fantastic.

Now that I have kids, a two-seat convertible is seeming less and less practical. Since it may finally be time to give up my beloved Porsche, I've been shopping for a possible 4 seat replacement.
Now, I'm a young guy who happens to drive a Porsche. I paid for it by selling cars, which gives me a somewhat unique perspective. Usually salesmen at "luxury" dealerships usually won't talk to me, assuming that I'm too young to have the money to buy their product.
The salesman I spoke to at Fields was very polite, and despite being twenty years older than me, treated me as a customer, not as a kid wasting his time. I asked to drive the G35 Coupe and all he said was, let me get you a plate and some keys. He didn't even ask me for my contact information (when I was selling, I was taught to get something for everything you give--give a brochure, get a name, give a test drive, get a phone number), he just handed me the keys and sat next to me while I drove.
I don't know if I'll end up buying an Infiniti, but if I do it definitely will be from here.

Greyhounds, especially retired racing greyhounds, are quite simply the best dogs ever. Beautiful, muscular, and intelligent, former racing dogs are usually also calm and even-tempered. (Those that aren't don't usually last long, sad to say.) Also, a retired racing dog will be housetrained and obedience trained (to a degree). They tend to be good with children, and are not agressive by nature.
I adopted one of my dogs through Peoria Greyhound Rescue, which is no longer in existence as an organization, and the other through REGAP. Both experiences were problem-free, but I was really impressed with REGAP's setup. The address and phone number above are acually for a farm, with horses as well as dogs. There's plenty of room for the dogs to run, and the whole operation really seemed very professional. The staff was exceptional, especially considering they all do it for free!

After a misunderstanding with the animal hospital I had used for a few years, I had to find a new place to take my dogs. This clinic got the nod mostly because it was near my new house.
The quality of care was quite competent, the staff professional and friendly. The prices were just a bit on the high side, but I'd rather pay a little more and receive quality care.
The atmosphere was a bit off, however. I can't really explain it, but they never were able to put me at ease the way that All Creatures always had. I used this place for a year, and I was always satisfied but never impressed.

My two greyhounds stayed here for 4 days over New Year's one year. When they came home, I noticed that one of the dogs has a small piece missing out of his ear (smaller than a dime) and a large chunk missing out of his left shoulder (larger than a dollar coin).
I immediately contacted Kitty, one of the owners, and explained that I was upset and angry. She assured me that she would take care of it. I took my dog to All Creatures, my usual animal hospital, notified both them and the kennel, got him stiched up, and forgot about it.
Six weeks later, I received a collection notice (not a bill) from the animal hospital. Needless to say I was confused. When I called them to ask what it was about, they said I had never paid for my greyhound's emergency surgery. I said of course I hadn't paid, the kennel was paying. They said the kennel had insisted that they weren't financially responsible.
I called Kitty again, reminded her of who I was, and asked her what was going on. She said that she and one of her staff had inspected the cage where my two dogs had been kept, and there was nothing sharp or protruding that could have hurt him, and so therefore one of my dogs must have bitten the other and they were not responsible. I told them that was baloney, my two dogs had lived together peacefully for years--and besides, it didn't matter how it had happened, I had entrusted my animals to her care and one of them had gotten injured. At this point she got snippy, said that she had investigated and that was all she was going to do about it, and I had better pay the vet.
Not only did they allow one of my dogs to get injured (and besides not paying the vet bill, didn't even offer to refund my money!) , this chain of events destroyed my relationship with my favorite vet clinic. After I was sent to collection, they informed me that I was not welcome there anymore--a bit brusque, but I understand where they are coming from. My mistake was in trusting this terrible business. Avoid this place at all costs.

For a few years (before we had kids) my wife and I had several dogs. At one time or another, we had 3 greyhounds, a German Shepherd, a Lab, and a mutt of indeterminate origin. All but 2 of the greyhounds were puppies when they came to us. Needless to say, we had need of quite a lot of veterinary work, and All Creatures performed most of it for the first year. Both routine and emergency care was great. The staff was friendly and cared about our animals.
We stopped using them because of a billing problem, but to be honest, it was as much my fault as theirs. Read my review of Tail Waggers Pet Chateau if you want to hear the details. Despite our problem I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this animal hospital.

I rented a home, 3br/1ba, from Andrew for a year (between moving out of the apartment and buying a house). The house was old, but nice. Everything worked except the heat the day we moved in (in January), but that got fixed. Andrew has a very hands-off management style; I neither saw nor heard from him for 10 out of the 12 months we lived there. All he cared about was getting his rent on time, everything else was your business. It was a refreshing change from living in an apartment building micromanaged by the staff. Good value.
