I've been going to Vibe since it opened a few years ago. The owner, Marc, does fantastic color. Tell him to do what he wants, ask him to make you look your best, and he will. Flattery helps, he's a flirt, go along with it and your hair will be great. However, don't expect the exact same look every time you go. Your look will vary, but it's always good. So if you like a little adventure, go for it.
Prices are a little high. Vibe's pricing is more in line with the salons in Boston. But so is the quality.
Call for an appointment. I've noticed that there is often no one there during the day.

I went to Teatro after work one day and did not expect the food to be as terrific as it was. It is 'contemporary Italian', don't expect pasta all over the menu. I definitely would recommend the antipasto appetizer, we all loved it. Several of us tried the lamb entree special, and it was cooked perfectly. Citysearch recommended the rum cake for dessert, which we also tried, and LOVED.
We did feel hurried through our meal, and were not allowed to linger over drinks after dinner. We just moved to the bar, it was no problem.

If you are in the mood for something different, check out Bay Sweets in West Roxbury. Even if you do not speak Arabic, don't be intimidated - everyone speaks English and is very friendly. The sweets in the bakery are like French pastries and very good. But even better, are the traditional meat and spinach pies. Just ask for them at the counter. They also have prepared sandwiches, tabouleh, baba ganoush, etc, which are great. And fresh meat at the butcher in the corner. The olive 'bar' is better than any other grocery in Boston, and about 1/5 of the price. You will also find that some produce is much cheaper than in the grocery store.

This standard fare pizza is tasty, the portions are huge and you can't beat the price. "One" piece of pizza is actually 1/4 of a large pie, cut into two slices. You can choose from abut 6 varieties that they are making that day, which are all very standard. Also, they have a frequent buyer card - Buy 4 slices get the 5th free. I love it because the location is great, the workers are friendly, and it is quick and good.

I was really upset about my experience at Keegan's. I do not have a regular garage in Boston, and I've been shopping around. I needed an oil change, and decided to try out Keegan's. I dropped my car off in the morning. I told them I wanted an oil change and asked them to also check the air levels in my tires. He said they would check over the car and told me that was part of what they would check. My car is well-maintained, relatively new, and in good condition. I picked up my car at the end of the day, and was handed a bill for $85. Keegan's bills at an hourly rate (I think approx $60-$65 per hour?) They looked over my car and billed me for an hour of work, as well as the oil change. I was very upset, as I had JUST taken my car to the dealer for the 65,000 mile check up a month before. They did NOTHING to my car that warranted this, other than look it over and tell me everything was fine. Grrrr. Still, they were very nice and seemed competent. If I actually needed work done on my car, I might go to Keegan's.

If you're in the mood for fish, but tired of Legal Seafood, this is something to try.
It is a barbeque/seafood restaurant. It was hip, but not overly. No need to dress up. But don't be fooled by the casual atmosphere, expect to pay alot. 4 of us went for dinner, had a bottle of wine, one round of drinks, 2 appetizers, no dessert or coffee, and spent $250. The quality of the food was very good, and the fish was paired with sides that you would not normally get at a seafood restaurant. I had the striped bass special and it was plenty. My boyfriend had the tuna, and his portion was very small. For what we paid, I think we could find something better. Also, if I'm spending THAT much money, I like to dress up, and feel like I'm dining somewhere a little more special. Not so here.
I did, however, have a DELICIOUS mojito. Lots of fun drinks on the bar menu. And the bartender was great.
And my clothes smell like mesquite.... Going to have to have everything dry cleaned.

I finally visited the new Good Life. I saw the sign "Under New Management", but I was not prepared for a completely different restaurant. The old restuarant was a dark, dank bar, with retro decor, greasy burgers, and great drinks. I loved it. It was the perfect place for a burger and a beer on a cold Boston day. True, it was a little sticky, but it had personality. Newer places pay decent money to achieve the look and feel of what the (old) Good Life had naturally. The new Good Life has white-washed walls, a young, hip waitstaff, and decent food, but half of the personality. I had a Greek Salad, which was very good and nice and light. My 3 friends also had salads, and we raved over them. But we will probably not go back. The art on the walls was not very good, the decor was boring and looked cheaply done, the crowd boring, and the waitstaff unenthusiastic. For the rare occassion that I have time to go out for lunch, it will not be there. I need something with more pizazz.

I say that Rod Thai has the best Thai takeout in Downtown Crossing and Chinatown. Their pad thai is excellent, as well as all of their curries. Our office does a mass take-out order there once a week. Everyone in our office loves it. It is in a food court in Chinatown, so there is seating, but I would never sit there. It is not very nice. It is great for take out. Most of us order the Shrimp Pad Thai. They always have specials listed at the counter, you can ask about them when you call.

Burritos Express is a great new addition to Downtown Crossing. The food is very inexpensive. I buy the cheese and bean burrito, and spend less than $5. The burritos are huge and VERY TASTY. Staff is very friendly. Orders come out very quickly, and you can call ahead and pick it up. I also like it, becaus it is never very crowded. I think this is because it's new and a little out of the way, so not many people know about it. I think their burritos have much more flavor and are more authentic than Qdoba on Summer Street. Also, the lines are shorter and it is less expensive.
I have not tried the quesadillas (as I am hooked on the burritos), but everyone in my office eats them all the time.

Samurai is a great place for the budget-minded who want something different than what is offered from the multitude of sandwich shops in Downtown Crossing. The offerings are what you would expect from any sushi restaurant. And unfortunately, the decor is drab. This led me to believe that the food would be the same, but not so. I am glad I tried it. The quality was terrific. I commented on the freshness to the waitress, and she passed my comments on to the owner, who was responsible for buying fish. He came out and chatted with us. Overall, it was a great experience. Also, they have Roll Lunches, which are a GREAT value. You get 2 rolls, plus soup or a salad for $6.25.
