The Toledo Museum of Art is a great place for a date night with yoru spouse or night out alone. It's quiet and beautiful with an unending amount of art pieces to gaze upon. There are not many activities for younger children, so I would suggest an adults-only evening. But still, it's a fun (and free!) activity.

In 1901, Edward Drummond Libbey of the Libbey Glass Factory and his wife founded the Toledo Museum of Art. Currently under renovations, this museum has two main buildings: the Museum of Art, which houses the galleries and exhibits, and the Center for Visual Arts, which houses the museum's library and the University of Toledo's art department. World-renowned paintings, sculpture and decorative arts are found here. The Center for Visual Arts, a very modern building created by Frank Gehry, is itself an amazing architectural piece. Located on the outskirts of the West End near downtown. Offers school tours.

I can't believe I'm the first to review this Toledo icon! The museum has everything you 'd want in a large city museum. I'd like to comment on one small aspect of the museum...the Family Center. This area is geared towards preschool age children and it's a wonderful resouce. They have two large rooms full of activties; in one room, kids can do an art project (they have a new one each week). The other room is the "play area" and contains a puppet theater, water table, many sets of blocks, puzzles, games, books, a dress up area, climbable statue, etc. It is FREE and open Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Check out www.toledomuseum.org for more info.

Toledo's art museum is the greatest educational experience the city has to offer. Admission is free to the public and a small fee is charged for parking. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and polite. The works of art are awe inspiring. there are paintings, sculptures, mosaics and tapestries. plan to spend the entire day!

It's nice to roam the halls of the Toledo Art Museum any time of the year. They have great displays including the ever changing student art and the special art shows brought in from all over the world. They have children's' days when kids can come in to have fun with art projects. And the Museum is free except for some special exhibits. They also have a nice little cafe, and a shop filled with great gifts.
