Fabulous Evening 11/18/2011

Dinner for four was a special and fabulous evening. We all had different appetizers; 3 different meals; an amazing cheese cake and coffee. Everything was home made, fresh and very delicious. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable and made our dining experience a very pleasurable experience. Worth the drive! more

Hidden Gem 7/12/2010

The best dining experience we have had in many years. Beautiful setting, coupled by outstanding food and service. I travel the country for business and found this restaurant while traveling. A hidden gem. Sat overlooking a pond to start off or evening. Artichoke appetizer was to die for, second to the salad with a lemon garlic dressing and for entree, the pork chop and finished off the evening with a key lime mousse cake. Service, atmoshere, quality of food and price point were perfect. Not to mention the perfect Martini. Highly recommend more

A wonderful night 2/22/2010

The two time I have been to the Raintree I have been greeted by very nice, very polite servers and a fantastic bartender. The food has been excellent both times and quite impressive. The first time I sat at a table in the dining room and asked the server to bring me a glass of wine that would best suite. I was not disappointed. Their oysters were fantastic and the salad that I had was decent. The meal was very good. It was seasoned quite well, cooked perfectly and served in a decent amount of time. The second time at the bar was quite nice. The patrons were nice and kind as the atomosphere everybody enjoyed thier meals and drinks. I had a very tasty piece of salmon that honestly I wish I could get where I live. I had steak which was than tender and tasty. The bartender was so kind and kept my glass full. I had quite a night topped with rum soaked cakes, which were very good. Thank you Raintree more

Absolutely LOUSY!! 8/12/2009

I live about two miles from the restaurant. It used to be a good place to eat. Unfortunately, it is now under new ownership and it is absolutely horrible. The food is lousy. The service is lousy. The owner woman, who also plays waitress or whatever, was wearing this little miniskirt I think called a track skirt. The only problem was that she was old, overwieght, potbellied and looked rediculous in it. The "salad" was nothing but shredded lettuce - period. Even the bread and butter was no good. How do you screw up bread and butter?? The chicken parmesan was listed in the menu as being chicken breast, but had a leg bone sticking out of it. Your guess is as good as mine. When I asked, the waitress said they all have a legbone sticking out!?!!? The salmon was so dry it was hard to swallow even with a gallon of water. Now, you would think that with food as bad as this the prices would be reasonable. Think again. So to sum it up - Fat miniskirt lady, lousy food and high prices. The "atmosphere" was a cross between a public library, an old folks home and a soup kitchen. I'm just warning you, if you're thinking about eating there please have your will drawn up ahead of time. I'm not kidding. It's that bad. I'm giving it one star only because there's no lower score available. more

So many years of fine dining 6/24/2009

Good: Outside and inside this Restaurant is just beautiful!! Great Bread. Real professional Bar tender "TOM". Great Food when it is available.. Bad: One "Home Grown" Waitress that really does not like her job and is not professional but very pretty. Service is very slow even when the restaurant is half full?? Many times you have to ask for Bread to be served. Not enough old time professional help on weekends and Holidays. Dinner Specials are always running out. Owner is always STRESSED & try's to play waitress and bar tender instead of chatting with regular customers and making them confortable?? NOT Cool No Drawn butter served with Lobste. Improvements: Sunday Brunch should be the "BEST Breakfast you ever enjoyed" not dinner left overs, salads, cakes and pies. Serve Drawn Butter with lobster without asking for it. Never run out of announced Dinner Specials. Clear dishes after each course. Make sure ALL dinner Items are served HOT. Other: This Restaurant is a fine dining establishment with problems but it has the continuing loyalty of many customers in the community and should never be half full on Weekend and Holidays.. more

The Raintree 2/27/2009

Please avoid this restaurant at all costs. The food and service are miserable. After waiting 2 hours at table, I was finally served a "salad" consisting of a plate of shredded lettuce with chunks of lettuce core thrown in for good measure. My filet mignon was properly cooked, but lukewarm. The baked potato was actually cold! There were numerous complaints from other diners. The server was very embarrassed, and at least she had the good grace to apologize. When I informed the owner, she said "Who do you think you are"? REALLY! Who am I? I'm a local professional and successful business owner who has lived in this community all my live. I've been in business here for 27 years. People frequently ask me for recommendations, and they tend to follow them. You can be sure The Raintree will not only not be recommended. I will encourage people to cross it off their lists. Any business owner with the attitude of this lady will run out of customers quickly, especially in this economy. more

Fine Dining in a Casual Setting 1/27/2008

David and Laurie Hazzard have been setting and resetting the standards for "Fine Dining in a Casual Setting" since 1991 at their restaurant in South Sterling, PA. My wife and I have been enjoying sumptuous meals here for over three years. Each time, we try a different creation only to be spoiled further. Set in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania, the wooden frame building blends in with it's surroundings. The inside exudes warmth with its worn wood vaulted ceilings and walls. Even with a full house, you can easily share conversations at your table without a noisy background. Service is exceptional from a warm welcome through dinner and (luscious) dessert. Each server and attendant has a knack for being personal and timely. Dave's menu is sure to satisfy the palate of any guest. From outstanding classics through more creative and exotic choices, you just can't make a mistake here. Their seafood choices may be the best of fine restaurants in the northeast states. The jumbo lump crab with rice pilaf sets a new benchmark for any crab delicacy. Dessert is yet another reason to put this place in the favorites of your GPS. I would mention my favorite if I didn't have so many. This is one of the few places where you either must enjoy a dessert at your table or take one home for an extension of a truly superb dining experience. Their creme brulee is the finest we have experienced. Now a word about their website http://www.hazzardsraintree.com/. Although it is extremely slow loading even with a high speed connection, it's worth the wait. The photos will tempt you to make the trip (even during winter) and the menu will cause you to schedule a date if you can't go immediately. I venture to say that this place would even impress Emeril Lagasse. more

Love the View 6/4/2007

The first time we stopped here we had our grandkids and we thought it looked too fancy to take them in. We were wrong. This is a very family friendly restaurant which has an interesting menu and very good food. We love the wide open feeling with the high ceilings and loads of windows. On one side there is a fountain which gives it very peaceful feel.(outdoors). We have sat here on several occasions and watch the snow fall. We usually have lunch here but on our last visit we came for Sunday brunch and it was a nice surprise. It was more lunch than breakfast but you could order made to order omelets. There was a table of dessert items that caught my eye immediately. Service is always prompt and friendly and prices are very reasonable. more
