Galatoire's Restaurant 11/18/2006

"The grand dame of New Orleans' old-line restaurants, Galatoire's has remained committed to culinary excellence for more than a century." Galatoire's Restaurant is located at 209 Bourbon Street. It is not a "cheap" restaurant, so please come prepared. This restaurant consistently gets an average of a "4" when professionally reviewed, almost a "5." I love this place! The website is located at http://www.galatoires.com/ www.galatoires.com. You can find more information there. They have been in business for more than 100 years, so they know how to do a restaurant and keep customers coming back for more. Locals love this place. (BTW, jackets are required.) On the menu, I love the Crabmeat Sardou or the Lamb Chops Béarnaise. I look forward to dining here again. more

You owe it to yourself... 6/25/2006

to eat here at least once! Whether you choose to sit downstairs in the hustling and bustling dining room with all the local "in" people or enjoy the beautiful and calm upstairs rooms, the food will blow you away. This is Creole cooking at its finest, without the unnecessary frills, but with all the wonderful attention to detail. No, it is not cheap and you can easily spend $100/person without truly trying too hard, but let me assure you it is worth every penny and then some. They definitely use only the finest and freshest ingredients (their lump crab meat is golf ball sized) and they do not skimp on them either. Treat yourself to some sides as well, even the simplest ones are prepared with such incredible attention to detail. The dessert list is short, but sweet. For a change of pace try the Cup Custard, which is exactly what the name would suggest - a simple cup of a simple vanilla custard. Let it surprise you! And if this is not enough, finish the meal with a famous Cafe Brulot - coffee steeped with orange peel, cloves, lemon peel, brandy and Orange Curacao. The wine list is impressive and the cocktails prepared at the bar (located upstairs) are memorable as well. more

Creole Excellence in the Quarter 8/14/2005

Old New Orleans institution on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter that's favorite haunt of the City's blue blood and is known for its traditional haute Creole cuisine. If you're looking for Old World Creole cuisine, this is my pick. The food is great and the people-watching is unbeatable. Friday afternoons are a bacchanalian delight. My recommendations are the double fried potatoes, fried eggplant sticks, Oysters Rockerfeller, shrimp remoulade, trout or pompano menuire or sautéed soft shell. NOTE: Men are required to wear jackets to dinner. more
