Ironbound is filled with fabulous restaurants and several that offer Spanish cuisine. Fornos is one of the best. The atmosphere is elegant yet you would not be afraid to dine here with your family. The menu offers a variety of Spanish foods and a few American items. The is willing to take the time to explain things if you are unfamiliar with the menu items. There are also staff members that speak English, Spanish, or Portuguese so you do not need to be intimidated if you do not know Spanish. Parking is ok which although not the best is a rarity for this area.

I went to Don Pepes twice before, and each time I enjoyed the food. The decor is more upscale, bordering on spanish style gaudy, but thats alright. The regular dining area can get a little packed on special occasions like mother's day. The food was great spaniard style cuisine, and it was a healthy portion of food I may add. The pitcher of sangria was soooo good! My mother doesnt drink, but she drank quite a few glasses of sangria, lol...It's not watered down and not too strong. A kid can have it and love it. The prices are a bit up there, being that it is seafood mainly, so its normal to pay $25+. They have a parking lot adjacent to the restaurant, but you have to pay, not free, no validation. I recommend overall though.

There are Sebra's Markets all over Ironbound that are great places to pick up a few quick items. The prices are not terrible but the selection is limited. The have all of the basic canned and packaged goods that you may need as well as some fresh items. I have found that their produce is very high quality and their meat and dairy items are extremely fresh. Convenience really is the key with these little stores.

Frank's has been a neighborhood tradition for more than forty years. It makes the best Sicilian pizza in the area. Since it is located on Bloomfield Avenue a main business area for Newark's North Ward, it is easily accessible by car or bus. Bus lines are NJT - 11,27,28, 29, and 72. Stay in or take out the food is mouth watering. Always easy to find a parking space nearby if driving.

There are several small fish and seafood markets in the area but I have found Popular Fish Market to be my favorite. One big plus is that is does not have that over powering smell that you find in a lot of fish markets. The selection is huge for such a small place. You will find all of the basic types of fish and seafood that you would expect but also some unique choices as well. The fishmongers are wiling to answer questions and make recommendations depending on how you plan to prepare the fish, what it will be served with, and your personal preferences.
