You'll Be Enthralled! 6/30/2006

The Naval Undersea Museum located in Keyport, Washington is great for kids and adults! Some of the exhibits at the museum are: The Ocean Environment Using hands-on activities, visitors learn about the physical properties of the ocean such as buoyancy, pressure, density, heat transfer, light, sound, salinity, and oxygen. Torpedo Technology This exhibit includes the Howell torpedo manufactured in 1890. Visitors will see one of the few Whitehead torpedoes on display in the United States and U.S. torpedoes from the Second World War. Mine Warfare Technology This exhibit traces the history of mine warfare from the Revolutionary War through the Civil War with a Confederate mine captured at the 1864 Battle of Mobile Bay. Diving The museum collects all types of Navy helmet and free diving equipment as well as civilian equipment which relates to Navy use or development. Included in the collection are helmets and dive suits, aqua lungs and SCUBA gear, rebreathers, fins, and related equipment. Outdoor Exhibits Outdoor exhibits at the museum include submersibles and portions of submarines. The museum has the largest collection of artifacts in the United States related to naval undersea history, science, and operations. more

Naval Undersea Museum 4/23/2006

Noted as the 'Navy's official undersea museum'. I am surprised there is no admission fee here. This place is just too cool. One can learn so much here! This place is mind boggling and so much fun. There is a periscope to check out, diving exhibits, and almost everything you can imagine that relates to the undersea exploration area. Everything is well maintained and presented. Information everywhere! Grounds are well maintained and easy to reach. There is ample parking. Docents are knowledgeable here and share their knowledge easily. Atmosphere is pleasant, bright, and roomy. Highly recommended by me. more
