Georgetown is a boating community on the Sassafras River where we were meeting two friends from my boarding school days plus their spouses. We wanted somewhere casual, on the water & not too great a distance from us & one of the couples who lives in Baltimore. As you'd expect, The Granary draws families & lots of summer people who enjoy the river. Fortunately we had reservations because it was quite full when we arrived & by the time we left there was quite a line of hungry diners waiting. We began with salads & crab/vegetable soup. I didn't taste the soup but my husband asked me if I'd try to get the recipe because he felt it was the best crab soup he'd ever eaten. The broth was fairly thin but it was loaded with tasty veggies & chunks of crab. Entree portions are more than ample at The Granary & our friends ordered expecting to take some of their dinners home. Some had seafood stew over linguine. It required some serious eating & looked wonderful. Unfortunately, due to my shrimp allergy I had to live (translate eat) vicariously. My husband & I both ordered flounder, broiled. The presentation as listed on the menu was crusted in almonds & fried. I'm sure it would've tasted better that way but my conscience dictated that I order it broiled. Accompanying the platter was corn on-the-cob that seemed to have been left in hot water for days. Totally overcooked I'm sorry to say. This doesn't have to happen in mid July. Another of our friends ordered deep-fried soft shelled crab that sat atop something or other. It looked absolutely spectacular & I noticed that he ate & relished every last bit. A large dessert tray was brought to the table featuring among other choices: Key lime pie, chocolate chip walnut cake, various tarts, pecan pie, at least a dozen various items, all appetizing looking & most garnished or covered with whipped cream.
