Editorial review from Citysearch 12/20/2013

The owner claims they would never do such a thing, but three years after Canyon Auto changed the engine coolant on my Toyota, my new mechanic says that my engine had been overheating because my previous mechanic (Canyon) had put improper Dexcool orange coolant in it, rather than simply the normal green coolant or the red or pink Toyota super long-life coolants.\r \r My mechanic tells me that when he went to drain the coolant, it had actually turned into a thick, black, crystallized sludge to such an extent that he had to flush the coolant system not once, but twice, to get it all finally cleared out. \r \r Now I have an engine that loses about two quarts of oil every 4,000 miles, whereas it never did anything of the kind before, and I strongly believe it's because the bad coolant caused the engine to stay overheated so much that it dried and cracked the internal engine seals to the point where the oil (and possibly the engine coolant) now seeps into the internal combustion chamber, producing the unusually nasty exhaust smell I now get from the tailpipe.\r \r Be careful with these guys.\r \r more

I have a (mostly) restored 1971 Ford 4/23/2012

I have a (mostly) restored 1971 Ford F100 I purchased about 3 months ago. I previously took it to Canyon for a subcontracted rebuild of the old instrument cluster and broken speedometer. It was a bit pricey - which is what you expect on a 40 year old car - but they fixed everything 100%.\r \r I was out driving the truck a week ago and it suddenly seemed the fuel pump was acting up (I just moved here and don't have my own garage yet so have only been able to do some basic work on it ...) I was able to limp it to the shop on Sunday and left the keys in the drop box and called them on Monday to describe the problem and have them take a look. The fuel pump/filter/etc seemed fine so we were both perplexed. The previous owner had told me he'd had issues with the coils burning out, they took a look and indeed it was the coil, but when they were replacing the coil they discovered that the existing coil had been internally wired incorrectly and wasn't getting the right voltage from the battery (5-6v instead of 8v). They re-wired the harness to the new coil and not only does the truck run the best it has since I got it, it also starts now without the choke (even after sitting for 5 days!) They only charged me an extra $100 labor for the hours it took them to get to the bottom of this esoteric wiring issue. Very happy with the service so far, though I hope to have a house in the next month or so, but if I get stuck I'll take it back to them more

I have 99 Toyota Camry, over the 3/31/2012

I have 99 Toyota Camry, over the Spring break my car intermittently won't starter. I bought the battery from Costco hopefully the car will start, but it wouldn't I brought it to Canyon Auto Repair and they found the problem right away, my starter contacts were bad. Instead of replace entire starter cost $ 350, Lee recommend just replace the contacts only cost $ 185. I am really happy with their service and definitely come back for service at this place. more

A staple for my automotive needs for over 7 years 12/2/2011

When I first moved to Oregon, I struggled to find a car repair shop I could trust for my Nissan Maxima which continued to leak oil from some unknown place. After taking it to two seperate repair shops and spending a small fortune, my car was still leaking oil! At this point, I had given up on the idea of having a clean garage floor and determined that I would just monitor the oil level in my car.\r \r After two years of this, I came across Canyon Auto Repair who properly diagnosed and resolved the leak, for a relatively low price, compared to the previous price gouging shops I had visited before. They even gave me a loner car to use while mine was being fixed!!! It wasn't easy to win my business or loyalty becuase every other shop touted that they knew what they were doing as well, but Lee and his crew made me a believer. This shop has since been a staple for my automotive needs for over 7 years. more

I had been to several shops but no ones can find out what the problem was. I am really impress with these guys at Canyon Auto Repair especially Rick. I got my car fixed and I have heat now. Thanks Rick and Canyon Auto repair, you are ROCK more

A repeat cust. w/a repeatedly awful experience..BEWARE!!! 11/16/2011

First of all I have never written a bad review because I do not believe in bashing someone's name because everyone including companies make mistakes. I also gave Lee multiple chances to make this right and after being let down all 3 times I brought my car there I am done giving him chances to redeem himself.. I am not going to mention my car except it is a newer vehicle or give too many specifics as I do not want Lee to call me. I have given him too much hard earned money and was taken advantage of the whole time. I was told that the problems with my vehicle were severe each time and what seemed like something little turned into a ticket worth hundreds yet it seemed as though the problems got worse each time I brought it in and the bill got bigger and bigger. I am a single mom and and the worse thing is to think you may get stranded so I trusted them an fixed whatever they told me was wrong, except then after talking to another customer who had the same experiences as me, I went for a second opinion to the dealership in which I purchased the car. Not only did I find out that what Canyon Auto was trying to charge me over $500 for was only a $75 problem but they also could tell that some awful work had been done in the past...I had only ever taken it to Lee since purchased new and always got regular servicing. The dealership showed me the terrible work and sub-standard parts Canyon Auto repair had used. I tried to give Lee a chance to make it right but he only tried to make me feel as though I was the one who had wronged him by going to another shop. I should of had a second opinion from the start, that is my fault for for trusting Canyon Auto. I would have been a lifelong customer instead I am out way over $1000 and have a car that has been compromised by bad workmanship. I was taken advantaged of, please don't make the same mistake by going to this shop. more

I have used Canyon Auto repair for all of my vehicles. Lee and his crew are truthfull and understand their costomers. It is hard to find auto repair locations that do not try and take advantage of you. He makes sure that you are fully taken care of without any extras tacked on. Make this establishment your go to place for all of your auto needs. more

The Best Mechanic I Know 11/9/2011

I currently have 3 vehicles all of which I bought new. Over the years Lee has helped me keep these and 2 previous ones in tip top shape and always with friendly fair service. Recently I had trouble with my boat trailer and Lee as always was able to put everything in order. Simply put - he is the Best All Around Mechanic I've ever known. I'm retired military with 10 of those years served in transportation so I've know quite a few mechanics. If you need a mechanic this is the place to go. more

Awsome service 9/3/2011

I have been taking my cars to Canyon Auto for over 10 years. Their prices are great, there staff is knowlegable and the way they treat there customers is above board all the way. If you need your car fixed for whatever reason you can bring it here and expect good, and more importantly, honest service. more

Got the job done and was a great experience 7/18/2011

These guys, mainly Lee, diagnosed and fixed my 2001 VW Jetta so it could pass the emissions test and it passed as soon as the drive cycle was finished following the repairs made. My check engine light was on for a very long time and these guys knew exactly what to do to fix it. They are absolutely honest and nice people. Lee went out of his way to make me feel comfortable about the work they were going to do and he even provided the proper drive cycle for my car which is very hard to find. Though, the drive cycle was tough to do, actually it was basically impossible. But after about 2 weeks of normal to heavy driving, the cycle was complete and the emissions people were satisfied, and so was I. I just moved to Oregon and I will be going here from now on. The chains like Midas and Jiffy Lube may be very slightly cheaper ($30 oil change here, $20 at Midas or Jiffy Lube), but they just don't have the expertise like these guy do, in my experience anyway. Thanks Lee and Canyon Auto!!! more

Great job to fix my car very quickly 7/8/2011

I really enjoyed the excellent service provided by them. The manager and the whole team are very nice to me. The technician Raymond found the problem of my car very quickedly and fixed it smoothly. Their price is very reasonable with high quality service. I will let them to do my car's routine maintanence which was usually done by my local car dealer.\r \r Their location is very close to Beaverton Transit center and they also povide free wireless service if you want to wait there for longer period. more

Best Auto Repair 6/20/2011

I originally went to the Toyota dealership when my check engine light went on. They were going to charge me an arm and a leg to fix the problem and they told me it would take a whole day. I then went to Canyon Auto Repair for a second opion, not only was it half the price, but it only took 1.5 hours. They are open until 7pm, which is perfect for those who work 9-5. The owner was great! I am a life long customer now! thanks guys more

great shop 4/27/2011

I have a 1996 Ford Aerostar, the engine is sticking noise. I brought this van to Canyon Auto Repair and they check them out. Unfortunately, the engine is bad, due to oil gum up from top to bottom. I went there and took some pictures ( I did not believe first because I m just replaced that engine about 50,000 miles ago from the dealer ship) It too bad because I let the car go for too long between oil change so now I have the price I have to pay for. Luckly, Canyon Auto repair very reasionable compare with the engine I paid 50,000 miles ago from the dealer ship. I saved over a thousand dollars. Thanks to an excellent work from Canyon Auto Repair, my car runs like a champ. now\r \r more

Honesty and Integrity 3/13/2011

Lee and Vivian are such good people and will go out of their way to help you! They just fixed my husband's Navigator after a break-in. Lee's price was less than a competitor and the final result was perfect. His office even handled the car rental for us too. We would recommend Canyon Auto to everyone! more

These guys are verry good 2/20/2011

Man I am telling ya, I have a 2003 Lexus RX 300, it is won't shift to overdrive at all. I brought it to my regular mechanic in Aloha, after a day diagnostic they called me and told me that my car needs new transmission and they don't do it there so they are recommended to there friend transmission shop. Get what, after $3000 later, with rebuilt transmission, my car still doesn't shift to overdrive. So they were running out of clues and send me to Canyon Auto Repair. After diagnostic, they found and fixed he problem just like that. My car now shift to overdrive very smoothly and the gas mileage are much better now. Thanks God, after fuel go up now almost $ 3.50 per gallon. I forgot to say that these and at Canyon Auto Repair replaced both Knock sensors and wiring harness, the Mass air flow sensor, The bill just under $900. I called Lexus dealership to compare the price. get what almost $1500 with the same works they did for my car. I have found my mechanic. eventhought, I had to go throw very painfull experience with $ 3000 tranny rebuilt. more

Honest Mechanic at Great Prices 2/17/2011

Finding a good mechanic is pretty tricky - especially when you're new in town and I feel so fortunate to have found these guys! I first went to this place when I discovered that I had to get an oxygen sensor replaced in a hurry to pass a DEQ test and get my plates renewed. Normallly, it's a $50 - $80 part but mine are ""special"" and couldn't find a quote anywhere in town under $325. Lee (at Canyon) worked as hard as he could to find me the lowest price and it's frankly, the only reason that I had money for groceries that week. \r \r I took my car back to them when I ran into an icy curb a couple of months later and they have been fantastic. They worked with my insurance company to make sure that every possible issue was addressed, hooked me up with a great deal on a rental car AND replaced my timing belt and water pump while the other body and frame work was being completed at a TOTAL BARGAIN. Apparently, they do everything (body work, engine work, even oil changes!) and I'm never going to anyone else again. more

Impressive Repair Shop 2/15/2011

After having my vehicle to several shops that seemed to not even begin to understand how a rotary engine worked, I was pleasantly surprised to talk with Rick and find him to not only understand the rotoary but owned one himself. The mechanics there used state of the art electronics to find my problem, fix my problem, all at a reasonable price.\r \r I can recommend this shop to anybody that owns a car, they will treat you right!!!!! more
