Despite the popularity of car "makeover" shows on TV, Long Island retail has been slow to catch on. EZ Concepts, however, is capitalizing on the trend in Bay Shore with its brand new store. The decently sized shop has some nice displays of wheels, audio equipment, and off-road accessories (among other things). The people are very helpful and whatever is not in stock can be ordered and might possibly even arrive the next day. Definitely worth checking out!

This restaurant is good but their delivery zone is not. I live about 1.5 from them and because I live off the N. spur they will not deliver to me. The ride is about 7 minutes away but they say i'm too far....you should bring up the bar a little with your delivery service, your losing alot of hungry clients just north of you.

Going to Fire Island would not be nearly as much fun without the ferry. While you wait you will see rental people with large quantities of provisions to last their stay as well as happy day trippers, couples and families alike. The trip itself is gorgeous and relaxing. It is like going on vacation (which is pretty much the case no matter how short your stay). Do use sunscreen and be prepared for a parking nightmare unless you go on an unpopular day or get there very, very early.

Located right next to the mall, Old Country Buffet is a great place to take the family, or a spouse. The line is always long no matter what time of the day you go, so be prepared to wait outside before getting in the buffet. Some of the foods include fried chicken, French fries, burgers, shrimp, turkey, ham, salads, and many other foods. For desert there is an ice cream machine with many toppings available, cakes, brownies, and cookies.

I met my Husband in this Bar. So did my best friend, and at least 7 other couples.
The Half Penny is a narrow Irish bar with a backyard smoker-friendly patio, darts, and and ATM
This place is on Main St just about a block East of Fifth Avenue. (convenient for ferry travellers). It's the first of about 7-10 bars downtown. This is not a dance club, although there is a Jukebox. This is not a Sports bar, although there are 2 TVs that games are shown on. There isn't a kitchen, but there is PLENTY of popcorn (and chips). And of course, the beer/liquor selection is impressive. You WILL find the hard to order liquor drinks here and there IS a mug night (Mondays).
The people are generally mid-20s to mid-thirties (no fake ids accepted here!), friendly, easy to laugh, and the bartenders are great! One of them, Sean will pour your Guiness with a shamrock.
You will enjoy your evenings here, but watch out, you also might find your future spouse ;)

We've been going to the Southside Hotel since it opened in 2002(?). Ned, the owner, runs this restaurant/bar (not a real hotel) off of Main street in downtown Bay Shore. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff is friendly. Ned created the menu himself and every dish is good to the last bite. Crab cakes, wraps, stuffed shrimp (you'll need a doggy bag), burgers, steaks, and daily specials make this a popular place. It's amazing he hasn't opened another location yet.
They take reservations, a good idea if you're arriving on a friday at 6pm. We always get there around 4:30pm. I've never heard a complaint! our circle of friends use this place for catering, too.
the prices are great: $5 burgers, $12 steaks, $5 appetizers, $4 beers. Highchairs and crayons are offered and the bar is in a separate room.

This is a great coffee shop downtown; I didn't think it would last when it opened a few years ago, but luckily it did! This is a full service restaurant also. The food is kind of "foo-foo", but fantastic if you're into that. They have a great wine tasting dinner on Wednesdays for $30 per person (includes app, salad, entrée, dessert and a fresh glass of wine for each course).
The espresso bar is great and the ambiance is country-ish. There are also outside tables for smokers in the summer, and half of the inside seating is made up of cushy sofas and armchairs.
Great for some chill time with your girlfriends!

More
This is the original "Nutty" in downtown Bay Shore. They have specials everyday, live bands (most are good, some are "eehh"), beer pong on Thursdays, wing night on Mondays (I think), and other things. Huge outside patios and a tent for shelter in the winter-w/heaters. Also an upstairs with a few couches and 2 extra bars. The back room upstairs can be reserved for parties if I'm not mistaken.
They have a menu; I think the kitchen closes at 10pm.
Cover after 9pm is $5 weekdays and $7 on weekends.
If you have to park in the back (you'll pass it first, then go south at the next corner and find the extra parking lot), you'll have to walk to the front to get in, even though there's a gate for the back patio. From the back lot, walk back to Main St on the East side of the block.
"young-ins" come here, esp when off of school, so beware, there will be little breathing room.

This place is sooooo cool. The owner and manager are always hanging out to see that things are well. The customers vary from college to 40-ish. They have a kitchen---yummy wings, dart board, outside patio, jukebox, video game machine, and some cool wall plaques. They also have live music (1-2 people) from time to time. It can get loud, but not crazy.
