Yellowstone Trail Café and Tavern Ipswich SD do not waste your time or money eating here.\r 12 of us went to Yellowstone Trail Café and Tavern for dinner on a Saturday night. No one else was in the place. The waitress was very friendly but not the fastest. I ordered Prime Rib, Special for $19.95 which really is not a special and that should have been my first clue not to order that. 2nd clue was when the waitress never asked me how I wanted it prepared, but Prime Rib normally is served medium rare, so I figured that is what I would get. When I was served my Prime Rib, it was well done. I asked the waitress to please return it and bring me one medium rare. She said she would try, but it is prepackaged so she didn’t know if the cook could prepare it medium rare. Ok that should have been my 3rd and final clue to just refuse it, and order something else. The 2nd Prime Rib I was served was a touch more rare but not much. At this point I was too hungry to wait for anything else and felt bad sending back a second one. I did manage to choke the dry Prime Rib down with that last few remaining drops of soda I had left as the waitress never did return to ask if we wanted refills. The au jus that was served with the Prime was very salty. Along with our meals they gave us a very small piece of bread, and no butter. \r After the meal was done the waitress never asked us how our meals were. When she finally did bring the bill around, I told her to tell the owner or manager who whoever, that I was very disappointed in this meal and definitely not worth $20. She said she would speak to someone regarding the issue.\r We waited expecting to see the manager / owners come apologize to us and offer some compensation for our terrible meal. The waitress came back and got everyone’s payments but ours. We waited a little longer, and I finally went up to the bar to discuss the problem. The waitress then informed me that since I ate it, I had to pay for it; I could not have it for free. I informed her that I certainly did not expect a free meal but some compensation for the terrible meal. She said she was told they would take our drinks off the tab. Ok not bad, but still not satisfactory as the drinks we had were fountain drinks, so they probably lost fifty cents on that deal if even that. But not wanting to deal with this terrible establishment anymore, I accepted the compensation, but very disappointed In the lack of class and responsibility of the owner to offer a personal apology. \r In addition to my bad meal, my wife said her Chopped Steak was very greasy, and one other person in our party had a chicken breast that was so dry he couldn’t eat it.\r I will never eat at this place again, and I would discourage anyone thinking of going there. Save a few miles and go to the Wakeside Bar and Grill at Mina instead. They have a much higher class of people and the food is 10 times better!!!\r \r more
