Urban Frontier Grocery 7/22/2009

I live nearby and shop there often--due to lack of other options. It is a true urban grocery store, without which the neighborhood would otherwise be a classic Department of Agriculture "food desert" where residents had no options but bodegas and fast foods. The cashiers are surly and impolite, the stockboys are knowledgable and helpful, and the meat/fish areas smells questionable. But I meat there every week and have never eaver had a foul taste or a queasy stomach. But I've seen meat that seemed on the verge--I'd keep a keen eye and stay away from anything "priced to sell" in that dept. more

Very scared 7/15/2009

I tend to shop here because it seems to be cheap but.... i have been very scared about buying their meats. I notice meat packaging thawing, wet and i questioned mgr said no freezer is fine but... the convenience of buying fruits&veggies one shot with meat but....meat dept does smell yukky. I got delivery svc from guy that was rude. I think a better cleaner supermarket should be putin place and Health Dept need to check out Twin City Jersey City NJ more

Unacceptable 5/20/2009

I do not trust their meat fish and frozen department. The freezers and fridges break on a regular basis and the thawed food does not get replaced. I have seen items such as eggs, meat etc… left by the registers and being restocked hours later. The fish and meat department have a fowl smell; the floors are dirty. I would expect to find such store in the third world. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATE ON EVERYTHING!!! It is a constant amazement this store has not been closed by the department of health more often. I smell a rotten fish, literally. more

Lazy! 4/21/2008

So yeah, whatever, it's a cheap grocery store in a not-so-great area of Jersey City. Not the worst, not the best. Some ethnically diverse food items from many different places in Central America and Asia, which is always a plus. The fish market smells terrible, and I wouldn't trust it, but the meat isn't too bad, provided you eat it right away. But unless you're looking for pork, go to the many Halal places scattered in the area - better quality and cheaper. I think a lot of the vegetable and fruit items definitely sit around for much too long. My main problem with the place stems from the fact that they close a half an hour earlier than the advertised closing time. I've noticed other places in the area doing the same thing, so maybe it just goes with the territory. That's unacceptable, as far as I am concerned - it's lazy and unprofessional, and I would shop in a bigger chain store if there was one within walking distance as a sign of protest (even though I always prefer locally-owned establishments). I plan to complain to the owners about it, not that they will care. Then again, the place isn't the cleanest grocery store around, so maybe a visit from the health inspector will make them care.... more

Cheap Chickens Ooh-Aah 5/10/2007

This supermarket caters to your every barbecue needs. For quarter leg parts ranging relatively from $ .39 cents to $ .69 cents per lb., it should deliver. Hardworking and affable butchers always industrious and never slacking, I rank them intent and excellent in their serviceability. Gracias amigo! BTW, they currently sell "chicharon" (or fried pig skin) at $ 3.99/lb. more or less (because the inflation fluctuates the price for $.4.99 the last time I bought one in pre-summer season). I give it a 3-star because I have high-standards with regard to store appearance and clean surroundings. more

Not good to buy anymore 11/8/2006

I have found since the last problem the supermarket had when it was named"win city" now its called "twin city" that they need to have the department of health go again and check it out. Since I started to shop in the supermarket I have found problems. When I buy meat it gets spoiled in less than a week even when I have it in the freezer. I also found bugs in the Farina cereal and the corn muffin. I feel that they should close it down and put a better supermarket and new owners. I feels its the only close one to me. I will be going back to shopping at C-Town cause I have never had a problem with there products. Its a shame that they don't care for there customers. Sad customer Maria Reyes Jersey City, NJ more

Great Neighborhood Grocery 10/10/2005

This a great neighborhood grocery. As diverse of a population this store serves, they also have a diverse selection of items. They have the aisles broken down into specialty or ethnicity of food and grocery items so it is easy to find what you need. They have great meat prices. Seafood is also available. more

Ethnic Products Available 9/28/2005

I’m so glad they added Philippine groceries at this store. The price is competitive and it is so convenient. This store opens early and closes later than the stand-alone Filipino groceries. Now I don’t have to make a second trip to buy necessary items. One stop shopping at a great location. There is plenty of parking too. more
