Whitewater Sports Campground And Canoe Livery

This place is no longer a campground. It is now a concert venue. HOWEVER, they still allow access to the river and TDPW still dump trout there at the base of the bridge. The campground still exists, someone else is not operating it. The lady that was operating the venue was nice enough to allow me drive around without charge. When I decided I was going to fish there I paid my $10. After, they told me I had to park at the back of the facility. I was parked in a valid parking spot close to the river. We argued about this and I just stayed parked in the spot. While unloaded my equipment, a man pulled up and said ""These people do nothing for the fish. Go down to Rocking R RV park and you can fish for free."" I still fished at White Water along with 2 other anglers. Then went to RV park past the 4th bridge on River Road and caught more

Not knowing where to go the first time, we stopped at Whitewater because of our tickets to the concert later that night. This place really does have it all with the cloth tubes, clean showers and bathrooms, and the fact that they are directly on the river. The staff was very friendly, dressed well, and honestly the best part of the experience was that we got in the water less than 10 minutes from checking in. Also it appears most of the other river outfitters are very trashy, and have the hot black rubber tubes and tube rash. But after going to the soldout Miranda Lambert Concert, that sealed it for us. We (wife, 2 daughters) were in New Braunfels visiting the Schlitterbahn waterpark last week. We had never been tubing and decided to give it a try on our last vacation day. Found Whitewater Sports on the internet and saw the 2 for 1 coupon if arrived before 10am. Great deal it seemed. Beware!!\r \r We arrived at 9:15am, pulled in to their lot and parked next to 2 other families who were unloading their cars and applying sunscreen. About a dozen staff were milling about including a worker in a lawn chair as you first enter. She waved hello. I walked up to the counter, presented my coupon, credit card and handed them my car keys, which they require as a deposit. \r \r 2 workers loaded up our tubes, carried our cooler from the car and told us to get in the small bus. Rather than wait for the other 2 families who were also there and were paying, he took off immediately and drove us to the far side of the horseshoe loop and helped us get set up. He answered our questions as we were new to this experience. I was really impressed with the quick and responsive service, I tipped the guy and we started our float. Current was very fast and we finished the ""long float"" in 2 hours. I had to call them from the 4th bridge takeout point but they came in about 10 minutes. \r \r When we got back to the lot, our car was gone as were the other 2 families cars and there were dozens of other tubers in line. It was very chaotic. When I finally retrieved my car keys from a worker, I was told that my car had been towed!! I was aghast-how could that be?\r I was told by the very rude and aggressive mgr that I had been told I could not park in that location. All a lie of course, I'm not so stupid to leave my car in a spot where I am told it is not permitted. \r \r The other 2 families who were just behind us arrived and they told us after our bus left for the river, they were told to move their cars to another area. How convenient that I was quickly rushed off to the river before that tidbit was announced. I kept asking the mgr since she had my keys, why didnt she just pull my car to the area that they wanted? Answer-she didnt want to be accused of stealing my property. How do I get my car back? Answer-call the number posted on a sign 50 yards away on a fence. I did and was told by the towing company owner that the whitewater mgr (he used her first name-very suspicous) had specifically warned me not to park in that area etc etc etc. None of which is true of course. Here's the beauty-for 200 dollars I could get my car back today! After a brief conversation, he agreed that because there was a conflict in our stories, he would give me my car back for only 150 bucks!! I was helpless and basically had to pay up. The impound lot was about 3 miles away but the whitewater mgr would not have any of her dozen or more employees drive me over there. I had to wait an hour for the tow truck to finish a job and come pick me up. I paid, returned and picked up my family and left New Braunfels Whitewater out 200 bucks after rafting, tips and a tow job. \r \r The mgr of this establishmentwas very rude, uncooperative, seemed to enjoy my predicament and I can only conclude that the towing of my car was potentially a deliberate scam. Just got back from river… nice tubes. They use a canvas cover over their tubes which has ups and downs. Ups… it reduces tube arm burn. Down…. tube has bottom but soft bottom which means occasional butt vs. rock bruise. My biggest complaint… website stated parties of 4 or more tubes get a free cooler tube. It should state you get a free tube FOR your cooler. Everywhere I’ve gone (and I’ve gone to many places on the Guadalupe and other rivers) a free cooler tube is a tube and a cooler, not just a random tube. On top of that they charged $20 for the tube/cooler. The $20 was more the ACTUAL RETAIL cost of the cooler. They claimed I got a free tube FOR a cooler but refused to rent me just the cooler but instead charged me and extra $20 for a cooler and a tube. So in ACTUALITY I did not get a free cooler tube or even the free tube FOR a cooler. I will NEVER go back and I’d advise other to do the same. I’ve never paid more than $14 or $15 for Cooler tube rental. The most frustrating part is I HAVE A COOLER but didn’t bring it because the the company’s website stated otherwise. The staff was otherwise not that friendly… they knew I was stuck with absolutely no choice. I had already pre-paid for my tube by using a Groupon offer and had no coupons printed to go to a competitor (which actually might have been cheaper). I can say that the shuttle was fairly fast and they actually take you to drop off and pick-up points. They “claim” you can float as many times as you’d like but I could not verify. MY ADVICE: Print the coupons from you computer BEFORE you leave for this rental place AND the others. Call ahead on a weekday and ask questions (they can still lie). This company is NOT located in an ideal location for the river. You want to be on the OTHER side of the horseshoe. I would recommend you go here ONLY if you go on a weekday and you get a really, really good deal. $20 for a cooler tube is NOT a great deal.... or even a ""good"" deal. Approach WWS with caution. This place is no longer a campground, and was renovated into a tubing, live music venue in 2007. In 2010 Pollstar nominated it as the Red Rocks award for best mid size live music venue in the country. It's as good as it gets. Pros: Best Live Music Venue in Texas Cons: zero, none. more

I love this place. I try to go back every few years to enjoy the experience and have lots of fun memories. The campsites are nice and usually clean. As for the review that talks about the slow service for getting tubes, this is every place to rent tubes. It just comes with the experience...patience is a virtue! But once you walk that stretch and are ready to get in the cold river, there is nothing like it. This is a great place to camp and tube at the same time...but if you are not camping, you may try the chute!! more

I used to live on this campground. It was always a huge party. Be sure to call ahead to check the river flow or you might end up walking the river instead of floating. There is a deposit required for renting tubes and rafts, but because people sometimes end up destroying or losing their property. And if you tube the horseshoe yes, you do have to walk a little over a quarter of a mile. But they get so overwhelmed that their shuttles only have time to pick people up from down river. Without a doubt the experience is worth every trouble and expense. Truly the experience is what you make of it. If you go with the mindset that they cater to you, then you will be miserable. But I personally know the staff and their policies. And I also thoroughly enjoyed living there. Pros: A big Party Cons: The river gets really crowded really quick more

We tubed with Whitewater Sports on 8/12/06 & it was awful!!! We left our campgrounds to come here to tube the Horseshoe...supposedly a relaxing 2 1/2 hour float, NOT!!! The staff was very unhelpful & was not at all in a hurry to move to the next person in line when they were finished with the previous transaction. On top of tube rental & parking fees, they charge a $20 deposit per tube...even after they hold your car keys! It's a good thing I had my bank card in the car, otherwise we would have been out of luck. When we finally got though the line we had to walk a little ways to pick up our tubes, then HIKE about a half mile to drop in the river...they didnt even offer shuttle services for this route!!! By the time we dropped in, most of our party was ready to upchuck from the heat & just head back to camp. The river was crowded & cold (I expected the cold) & VERY low!!! Out of our 2 1/2 hour ""float"", we only floated about 45 minutes...we had to get up & drag our tubes across the rocks the rest of the way...all the while dodging drunk college kids with their tubes tied together...trapping anyone who may cross them. (By the way, once you drop in, you're stuck on the river until the end of your route...the banks are all private property.) If the river is low, don't put people on it for a miserable trip just so you can make a buck!!!! What a horrible experience!!!!! Pros: None! Cons: Horrible service!!!! more
