We had a good time 1/2/2010

We just got back from a day trip to Astoria and an early dinner at Wet Dog Cafe. We actually had two really good sandwiches, Amber beer and great service. I had the grilled halibut sandwich and it was outstanding: fresh, moist and flavorful. The hubby had a burger with a bbq sauce and said it was really good. The toddler had mac and cheese and was a happy camper. The servings were huge so we ended up taking half of our meals home. We also shared a bowl of the clam chowder with our toddler. The chowder is GREAT! I really appreciate the effort they take to give kids a little bag with crayons, snack crackers and dog bone shaped candies. Is it a fancy place? NO. One of the downsides was the lousy band, but they were playing to raise money for the local high schools scholarship fund and I appreciate the effort. Pros: Great Sandwich, Good for kids, Great view Cons: Bad sunday afternnoon band more

The Worst Service Ever!! 9/27/2009

Seen the Soup Na*i episode of Seinfeld? This place has its very own Water Na*i! NO WATER FOR YOU!! That is what we were told when we asked for water. Although the 2 parties in front of us were given tap water.... my friend & I needed to pay for bottled water because water wasn't available. Good Luck on your venture to this place....let the large lady bartender have mercy on you. Pros: none.... Cons: treated like s*(& more

Pick Your Time Carefully 11/20/2008

The Wet Dog Cafe boasts an excellent view of the Columbia River and above average porters and stouts. Food prices are acceptable but service is variable. The atmosphere is open and rugged in the Astoria's typical manner of artistic decay. However, if you wish to avoid the Holister wearing, giant truck driving, bad DJ listining, frat-boy crowd, make like the majority of the locals and do not go to the Wet Dog after 7 p.m. Pros: Darn good beer Cons: Avoidable night life more

A GREAT PLACE TO GO IF YOU WANT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE 4/6/2008

I have been going to the Wet Dog since 1994 and always enjoyed my time there. We just returned from a wedding and my wife and I took our niece (who had just returned from Afganistan) to the Wet Dog for some drinks and pool.We were completly ignored by a male bartender each time we went to the bar to order drinks, this caused us to to walk to the other end to be waited on by the female bartender. After returning the pool table balls,we were YELLED at by this guy for stepping 1 step behind the bar to place them on the counter, this was the only time the guy even acknowleged us! Once again I went around to the other bartender to return them when the guy rushed over and said "give me 6 bucks". Once he left I informed the female that the guy had been an idiot to us all night and returned to our table,a minute later the guy comes over to tell us we will be 86ed if we have anything else to say about him. He wont have to worry about that. Once again, If you want to have a great time in Astoria you most certainly can,as long as you stay away from the Wet Dog Tavern. Pros: Great Fich and Chips Cons: Never heard of interview techniques to eliminate HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE more

Excellent for everyone! 10/6/2007

This place is amazing! I brought my whole family here. My husband loved his ENORMOUS burger and had a few of the microbrews that are made onsite. My daughter and son loved their kidpack full of toys, cookies and crayons. Great way to keep them occupied! Plus their food came in little dog bowls. How clever! My mother said that she had the best Reuben in her life (she's 97!) My father got the Alakan Halibut fish and chips and said it tasted like he had just caught it and made it himself (he is a retired fisherman). And lastly, I had a terrific glass of Dog Tail Merlot and ate the best clam chowder and homemade bread. I drool just thinking about it. Then there was dessert! They make their own cheesecake! i had the pumpkin, kids shared the blueberry and my husband had the milk chocolate chip. OHMYGOD!!!!! Heaven in your mouth! My folks split the marionberry cobbler and begged the owners for the recipe (and got it!) The view is perfect, the service impeccable. I wish that I lived in Astoria so that I could go there more often. We will be back!!!!!!!!! Pros: Everything! Food, service, drinks, view Cons: It was rainy so the deck was not available more

Management Clueless 5/10/2007

Terrible customer service--terrible manager. We spent over $120 on dinner and cocktails and were asked at 9 p.m. to pay an additional $5 per person for cover charge for the DJ. We had been there since 7:30 p.m. That was just tacky. The manager stated that was policy. He looked like he was 15 and didn't have a clue about customer service--just wanted to pack in as many people to make as much money as possible. Regarding the food--it was overcooked. Two people in our party couldn't eat their steaks. They ordered medium rare, but they were well done and so tough they couldn't eat them. We have gone there three years in a row as a group of six during our annual reunion. This was the last time we will ever patronize this establishment. Pros: Good Drinks, Good Waitstaff Cons: Tacky Manager, Food Overcooked more
