A favorite local pub/eatery loses the plot! As others have mentioned food OK, hit or miss really, service is just OK, and not friendly even when you are a regular like me. I have been a loyal customer (and introduced many new clients to the place) at Waxy O'Connors, Irish Pub Restaurant, on 17th Street Causeway in Fort Lauderdale, for 15+ years, Approximately two months ago, I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine. The manager on duty, Victoria (many attempts to get her last name have been unsuccessful!), told me I should finish my wine and leave. I was not welcome on the premises because I had accused someone of pulling a gun on me, and called the Sherriff to their location, which they did not appreciate, 'They did not appreciate the police attention' were her words. I told her she was mistaken, and she said there were several people present who had identified me as the woman, and I should leave after I finished my wine. Suffice to say, it was not me. I actually was able to tell her I had been having dinner at another location on the date in question. Her response was, ' does not mean you did not come here afterwards!'. I then took the initiative to call the Broward Sheriff's office to inquire about the incidence at Waxy""s. They confirmed I was not the party involved. When I shared my information with Victoria, she acquiesced that she 'might' have been mistaken, but I still needed to leave the premises and was not welcome back! That evening I had just accepted a position as a Chef on a private yacht, and was to meet owners and new crew, for a celebration. I averted possible career ending situation by changong plans and directing the group elsewhere. I have contacted the owner, Mark Rohleder, several times. Despite a promise to look into the incident, and get back to me,he has not gotten back to me. Continuous attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful. Tonight I spoke with manager on duty, Connor, who claimed to have no knowledge of this, and did not know (Manager) Victoria's last name (!). I have been accused wrongly, this is slander, and because this location is integral to getting work in my industry, I am asking for help. Apparently the owner does not think it warrants any attention. I still await a response from owner/management...not a place I recommend. Try The Field on Griffin Road, MaGuire's on Andrews Ave instead of this place... more

Been going to Waxy's since they opened 15+ years ago. Almost always with my dogs in recent years. Three weeks ago I was alone at the inside bar, waiting for a friend, when the Manager Victoria (whom I have never seen in my multiple visits), told me I was not welcome there anymore...accused me of calling Sheriff previous week and charging someone pulled a gun on me. The evening was a celebration of new boat crew team, so all 10 of us went somewhere else and will never return. Attempts to reach owner, or another manager, to call me back have been ignored. Do you really want to frequent a place where you have been a regular customer for more than 15 years, and be treated like this? more

Food was pretty good. They were slow, and the service was also. My bangers and mash had a good flavor, and they were able to leave off the onions for me. The potato leek soup had a good flavor and was served hot. more

Terrible Management 4/7/2011

I made a reservation for 8 for March26 at the lexington, ma waxy's. When I arrived with my party I was told by the manager, Jonathan Powers that he had no such reservation and there was a1and 1/2 wait. Because I had people from NH down for a special dinner there was no way we could wait. After 2 days of trying I finally reached Mr. Powers, who was extremely rude, said he apologized and that was all he was going to do. Such awful customer service. I certainly would never recommend waxy's to anyone. No stars deserved here! more

I was very disappointed with my visit. I liked the fish pie, but others with my group did not enjoy their food. (One dinner was not paid for because it was that bad.) The service was the biggest disappointment. It was slow and the waitress was rude. We will not return. more

Had the grilled mahi with cajun sauce and it was great. Had a few Guinness' with some fellow travelers and locals. Cool little crowd, atmoshphere and unique place. Not a strip mall bar at all. Would come back for sure when Im in the area. more

Excellent food; awful service 4/6/2010

The shepherd's pie was absolutely great. Probably the best i've ever tasted. However, it doesn't make up for the bad service and slowness. It took an extraordinarily long time to get our food - something like about 45 minutes. The server never offered drink refills and never checked on how everything was. Good thing we didn't have any issues with the food. \r I love Irish pubs - my cousin runs one - and I really wanted to rate this one higher because of the outstandingi food. Unfortunately, I just can't overlook the truly awful service. Pros: food Cons: service more

Service Sucks! 3/21/10 3/21/2010

If your not a regular, you have no idea it is self seating. Had to get my own menu and eventually flag down waitress to take our order. The blonde waitress is not very friendly. After finishing our first round of beers, she never came back to ask if we wanted second round. Had to go to bar myself and get another beer. Then the food which was average tasting pub food took a loooong time. The ambiance was nice but would not go back. The Pub in Pembroke Pines is MUCH better. Pros: ambiance Cons: service more

Great 1/24/2010

We had a light lunch here and the food was pretty good. I love the old pub feel of this place. We ate at a side table that looked like it was situated in a miniature room in a country cottage. My wife and kids had two orders of potato skins and they said they were some of the best they ever had. My kids had the chicken fingers with fries again....lol. They loved them. The fries came in a separate basket (see pic) and they were amazing. I planned on having a liquid lunch of Guinness and Stella until these fries came out. They were golden brown and still had the skin on them. They were also cut nice and thick. I have to be honest they were so good I ordered another basket. I dipped them in HP Steak Sauce and went to town. The downside of this place was the service. It was very slow. The place wasn't that busy so I don't know why I had to wave down the server (a couple of times) to get her attention. Also, it took forever to get our food. My wife even mentioned that she thought the server might have forgotten about our order. I am pretty patient and I would cut them some slack if they were in the weeds, but they weren't. I can't fully recommend this place based solely on the poor service, but everything else was great. Stay hungry! more

Great Place, Awful Service 6/21/2009

I recently went to Waxy O'Connors and the service was awful. You walk in the door and seat yourself. It took about 10 minutes for anyone to come by with menus and another 30 to have your order taken. I sat at the table for about an hour without any food. I had to ask for my order to be taken and for a second beverage. The place wasn't even busy. When the food finally came it was good but not fantastic. The atmosphere was great but if you are planning for a shorter dinner, try someplace else. Pros: Great Imported Beer Selection Cons: Service more
