We have just come back to Edinburgh, Scotland from a family visit to Scranton. Most days, I had occasion to visit Vitali's ( the shop was only a very short walk away) to buy the daily basics-fresh bread, or rolls, or something for an afternoon cup of tea , or maybe some bacon or such like. And, of course, the daily newspaper.
It was a real pleasurable experience of everyday life and everyday people in an everyday town where you can nod to people in the street and say 'hello' as you pass strangers, and have a conversation with shop staff as they pack your bag.
I loved it, and my Scottish accent didn't seem to cause a problem!
