I asked, giving a specific brand and critter source and showing a hat made from the yarn.\r \r "No, but there's some like it over there."\r \r It wasn't where she said it was, wasn't from the right critter, wasn't the same weight, and they couldn't be bothered to walk over and help find a substitute\r \r We left. I won't be going back. more

They have a lovely selection of yarns, but I have to say that the staff is not exactly friendly and helpful. As another reviewers said, they make you feel like they are doing you a favor to help you. Though I like the projects and yarns they have, they are not as fashion forward as other shops. more

I've been going to this shop for more than 7 years and LOVE IT. The staff and especially the owner Louise have been so helpful. At first I needed LOTS of help just to pick the right yarn and Louise and her gals were always right there for me. Later they helped me when I messed up a fairly complex lace pattern or when I was REALLY SLOW at learning to knit socks. My kids have grown up knowing mommy needs her yarn time and they have always been welcome there. I know that if I have a problem, Jeanette, Pat, Louise and the other gals who's names escape me will help me untangle the problem. Just to be safe, I try to go on off hours if I need fairly detailed help with a problem, so someone can sit and help me figure the problem out. I can't say enough about this place. When my kids go back to school each year it's the first place I stop to check out the fall selections, chat up the staff, then get down to yarn selection and knit. See you there. E more

Uncommon Threads has a terrific selection of yarn and knitting supplies. However, the staff often makes you feel like they are doing you a favor to help you. They do offer a large number of classes. more

A table to spread out and get help, tons of examples in store to give you ideas, helpful staff and yarn galore. Whether a beginner or advanced there is no better place to go to stock up or get started. All types of yarn in all price ranges. Easy to find in downtown Los Altos. more

As the other reviewers have said, the sales people are not particularly friendly. This has been true for years.\r \r They do have a nice selection of yarn and notions with a fairly good selection of patterns. \r \r The downside is that their offerings are not inexpensive. Often you want to see the color of yarn rather than order off the web so it's nice to have a convenient yarn shop. PROS: convenient to Palo Alto, good selection of yarn CONS: expensive, sales people not friendly, hard to park at times more

I haven't really had any problems with the staff at Uncommon Threads, although I have heard some horror stories. They have a lot of Rowan yarns, and standard yarn selections. They also have a large upscale baby yarn selection. I'm guessing that is due to their clientele and what their needs are.\r \r They have baby toys and are pretty good about kids being there, but I don't feel too comfortable bringing my kids.\r \r They aren't open Sundays so I don't end up going there that often. more

Usually these little yarn shops have really helpful sales people. But here, the sales people aren't all that helpful. They do have a nice store with some fun yarns. And it's nice that they have a little toy basket to keep the kids busy while I'm shopping. I guess I just wish that the sales people were a little more freindly. I think they offer classes, but I haven't tried them. more
