Very Poor attitude overall 9/3/2011

Upon entering gal was not friendly and left me standing as I am handi caped. Took forever to check out as her counting her money was more important than our service. more

Bland food- ""We don't care"" attitude 5/28/2011

Started out great, nice atmosphere, friendly hostess. Garlic Fries appetizer was great but swimming in a pool of oil at the bottom. Clam chowder and Hungarian Mushroom soups were amazing. The greatness ended there. Grilled Salmon was dry but ok. Veggies looked and tasted freezer burnt as if literally dumped from a frozen package and heated to a nasty softness then sprinkled with something weird and served without butter. Mashed potatoes were ice cream scooped on the plate then smothered in a terrible brown gravy. Chicken Madeira was literally swimming in what seemed to be brown gravy and topped with limp asparagus that tasted like old Chinese food veggies. They dumped so much gravy on that the veggies, potatoes and main course were all covered. We ate a third of our plates and asked for our check. The waitress didn't ask how the food was, just took the mostly full plates and left a $42 tab on the table. When we paid at the front desk, we told the checker we didn't like the food and she smiled, said she was sorry and rang us up, nothing more. We will never go back. more

Delish! 2/17/2011

One of mine and my husbands favorite places. People that said you have got to be old to eat here because the food is bland must have some serious cholesterol issues!! I love seasoning (not alot of salt but alot of GOOD seasoning) and this place has it. The hungarian mushroom soup is the best ( little salty but still the best) this is the first thing ordered, right as we sit, one bowl to split. If you are a regular always ask for what is not on the menu. As for me I love the onion poppyseed salad dressing! Love this place and would recommend to anyone. more

Truffle Hunter 7/9/2010

I had no coupon. But after eating there twice, i can tell you WHY they have to give out 2fers coupons. Most were elderly people who cannot taste their food anyway. And free meal sounds good to people on fixed incomes... I ordered their ""famous mushroom soup"". It was tasteless, bland, lumps of white powder,(white flour)? in the soup. Not even hot. I added salt, I added pepper. But the lumps did me in. Gross! I was gagging. The accompanying ""homemade famous bread"" was so not up to par. It was so old and stale & it was like eating falling apart crackers. The crumbs went all over me and the table. Tasteless also. I am NOT a smoker. I like to use spices when cooking. Second time, i ordered tuna sandwich. Well, it was like chewy something. I did not recognize what it was.Brown shredded meat. Super fishy tasting. I think they used cat food! I am not joking. It was fishy tasting, super chewy like no other tuna salad i have ever eaten.Maybe it was porpoise meat? I told my waitress when she finally showed up, i could not eat this. She got the owners wife. This old bag questioned me like she was SS and then her husband came out and glared at me and she told him to wrap it up "" for dad"" And take it home for his dinner."" How disgusting is that? Some poor old man got my bitten into sanwich!! Also she insisted indignant that the bread is baked there daily. Maybe so, but what day and from what freezer? These are the kind of people you are dealing with here. NO scruples. God knows what else goes on in that kitchen?! Never ate their again. And don't plan to even if they give out food for FREE. And FREE is always a very good price.... Pros: good view from front windows on porch of traffic on Powell Cons: the food sucks! more

STINGY WITH COUPONS - SLOW - CRAMPY 7/1/2010

Hello friend. With a myriad of restaurants in the Gresham area best to pass on this one. The Trufflehunter is in a house built in 1907 - small rooms. NOT good for groups over 10 as my Red Hat group found out. Chairs were set literally touching one another. We chose this restaurant because several of us had a 2 for 1 coupon. Red Hatters do lunch a lot and have used 2 for 1 coupons in at least a half dozen restaurants in the Gresham area. The Trufflehunter would honor only ONE. Waitress told us they would go out of business if they had to honor 3 coupons at one table. Gee. Arrived for 1:00 lunch. Food started arriving at 1:55 p.m. All I can say is YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Pros: Thick homemade bread - if you like bread 1"" thick Cons: Slow, Crampy, Unfriendly staff more

THE BEST SOUP 6/24/2010

If you only go to Gresham for one thing, make it the Hungarian Mushroom Soup at The Trufflehunter. It is TO DIE FOR. It is so good, it is worth flying there from wherever you live, having the soup and flying home. It is THAT good. Pros: Soup, Soup, Soup Cons: Not sure... more

Best Sandwiches EVER 6/5/2010

I only go here for the sandwiches! That's what they're great at! They are HUGE....GIANT....of epic size. And sooo good it's not even funny. I've been coming to Truffelhunter for YEARS and it's always been great. This is where I bring people from out of town for a treat, never fails that they love it. And, if you manage to still have some room, the desert is great too. Burgers, as my friends assure me, are also worth trying. \r GO, ENJOY....it's GREAT food! Pros: nice atmospher, great staff, YUMMY food Cons: busy more

Not Impressed 4/7/2010

We talked about going here for a long time, it looked like a cute place. Well inside it very cramped. The front room is basically a large hallway and you can barely back your chair up to get in. My pasta dish was sooooooo bland and i only ate about a 1/4 of it. maybe i picked the wrong thing but i did not like it. My husbands wasn't good either, although he thought it was alright. I'm not in a hurry to go back here Pros: umm fairly nice servers Cons: cramped, bland food more

Not sure what the ""hype"" is about? 4/1/2010

I had heard of this place for years... and finally tried it out for dinner with my hubby. It was nice inside, the staff was friendly and I loved the character of the house... but, it was a bit cramped and noisy for dinner. My food was alright- nothing great- but my husband did like his Rubin sandwich a lot... so, we tried again for breakfast a while later. It's breakfast- how hard can it be to get right? Well.... again, great staff and environment... actually much quieter at breakfast time... BUT... the food was horrible! I couldn't even eat it. Which never happens. I ate the biscuit cause it was ok- the egg scramble was nasty- dry eggs, too much olives, forgot my avocado and just didn't taste good at all- the potatoes were ok, but bland... needed way more spices!!! I was really disappointed cause I love the location so much... and was hoping to find a fun, romantic place to go with my husband... guess we'll keep looking. Maybe it was just an off day? I'd stick to the dinners if you go... side note: they did comp one of our breakfast meals- which was nice, but expected when you don't eat it ;) Pros: Lovely location, friendly staff Cons: the food more

Best Portions In Town 2/21/2010

They have the best burgers in town and the best prices and portions. The environment was really chill and the service was great it was super busy since we went on the weekend so we did expect a bit of a wait which is understandable for small restaurants. The waitress was nice and their banana split cheesecake is to die for. I will be back for sure and recommend this place as one of the top in Gresham. Pros: Burgers and Sandwiches Cons: Can get a little loud on weekends more
