would NOT go back.Service ok but unfriendly, filthy bathroom. 11/13/2011

The high prices you're going to pay is for the view not for the food. The bar drinks were Eh, ok to say the least. The stuff tilapia was horrid...tasted like cardboard. We thought the dessert would be better, Wrong! $170 down the toilet...oh speaking of bathroom , the mens bathroom was disgusting. The floor was wet, the trash can filled with hand towels n all over the floor, no soap, and no hand towels left. Go to son cubano in edgewater nj instead. more

BEWARE - Bait & Switch Shake Down Artists At Work! 4/16/2011

Wish there was a no stars option because they don't even deserve one! Where do I begin? Maybe it's by saying that if you're thinking about having an event at this place, learn from my mistake and don't take a chance with allowing them to ruin it the way they ruined my sister-in-law's wedding reception. Let me provide some specific examples and start with the worst, which was the fact that these ""decent"" people actually called the cops and threatened to have the bride and groom arrested over a billing dispute for services they claim were provided which were not covered in the contract. And no, they didn't call the cops while the bride and groom were there, they waited until they left and were on their way home, claiming that they ran out on a bill for extra charges that were left unpaid!!!!! And what were those services? 1) asking the Manager, Tom, to put it a CD and play cocktail hour music, as well as other CD's for the bride & groom's first dance with each other and their respective parents! As Tom said in his pathetic attempt to justify his stance, ""it's like you got a DJ for free."" Our response to Tom was if there was a problem with the request, why didn't you say so when it was made? The answer became clear that it was because they were keeping a running list of all of these little extras to justify hitting the bride & groom up with $1000 bill, not even at the end of the night, but before they even got to cut their cake! There's the ""decency"" of this place shining through again. 2) Asking their wait staff, who we thought were assigned to our event, to help light candles as part of the decor. Real time-consuming manual labor involved here! At the time, there was more wait staff working than there were restaurant guests. I could list five more ridiculous examples but I think you get the point, which is that this place does not put your satisfaction above anything. To think that they would ruin a couple's wedding night, never show any bit of remorse for the misunderstanding and try to handle it professionally, and basically dare me to write this review with a snide comment of ""we don't care about any web sites you want to make a comment on,"" just shows their arrogance and complete lack of regard for making your event the best it can be. As Tom said, ""we're just a restaurant and not a catering hall,"" which is exactly why you need to move one to a more reputable place and give them your money because these guys will take it and figure out how to wring more out of you. The shake-down artists part of this review has to do with the fact that they clearly were watching what we were doing to only be able to throw it in our faces later. As with the CD example earlier, they also provided specific arrival times for guests who arrived earlier than the scheduled start time or for family members who arrived early to decorate. NEVER did they inform us that there was any problem with anything. They just made their notes and kept everything in their back pocket for six hours until the time came for the shake down to begin! Wouldn't the decent thing to do be to apologize for the dispute, try to put the wedding couple at ease, and talk it out rationally? Instead, they came on so strong that other family members had to intercede when it became apparent that there was a problem because of the animated way that the restaurant staff was speaking to the bride and groom. Guess disputing the charges wasn't something they wanted to hear. At the end, the bride and groom returned to the restaurant, under threat of arrest, and the police shortly left because even they saw how ridiculous the restaurant's claims were because they even questioned what the amount the restaurant was looking to charge. Do yourself a favor and don't consider giving this place a penny of your money, unless you could care less about losing it and being left completely unsatisfied. more

Restaurant with a view 2/19/2011

Celebrated my fathers birthday here. The food tasted very good. The family seafood entree was very good. The main entree was also very good. We order a bit of everything on the menu. Price is high but the food is good, so I would come back again. more

Good food, but could care less about music choices 1/1/2011

This is a good place, the location is nice. The food was great. The choice of dancers that performed for our new years dinner was very good. But 3 straight hours of spanish music from salsa, bachatta and reggaeton made things unbearable. Now before you throw your race card, my wife is spanish and so was my best man who were there. One song was fine but the constant drone of spanish music plus the cheesy 70's and one 50's ""white music"" came on (as the DJ called them). We just had to leave. This place hires DJs that only cater to a certain crowd of his choice and not the crowd that is actually there. After bearing it for 3 hours straight, we decided we didnt feel welcomed there (we went outside and met others that felt the same). Do not go here for any big holidays unless you like to hear music that sounds the same from one song to the other. more

Nice for one time special occasion. 8/1/2010

Went for Mom's birthday brunch/lunch. They honored reservation on Sunday afternoon very well. Be aware. We were offered water for the table but were not told the Voss bottles of water were $8 a piece. Food was OK. Nice view of river and NYC. Pros: Friendly Staff. My party felt very welcomed! Cons: Over priced? more

Very disappointed 5/9/2010

My husband made a morning reservation for brunch on Mother's day. . However, when we arrived at the restaurant we learned that the menu was changed and only a dinner menu was offered. In town that loves brunch, why on earth would you change the menu to an all dinner menu on Sunday at 11:00am? more

GorgeousView Terrible Service 4/19/2010

This is a million dollar view and an amazing spot, the food if and when you get it, is very good, not fabulous. its awful that the service is beyond slow and the staff just doesn't get it. I will go back as I have for drinks and the view and NOT spend major money on the food... Pros: Out door dining for all 3 meals Cons: awful service more

Perfect for a Romantic Date/Occasion 12/23/2009

I was a little concerned going in because of some of the reviews but I have to say that I couldn't have made a better choice. I took my girlfriend to Riverview last night for her birthday. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The staff is very courtious. The waiter did an excellent job. He was nice and made us feel welcomed. He was also very attentive to us. Granted it was a tuesday night but nevertheless I have been to restaurants where you never get good service regardless of the day. My girlfriend ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. Her words exactly: ""That was the best sea bass I have ever had.."" I had the Fillet Mignon and I have to say it was great. So, in general, I was very surprised (even relieved) with the entire experience. We will definitely be going back. It is a bit pricey but it was well worth it! I highly recommend. Pros: Great Food, service, Beautiful View & Comfortable Atmosphere Cons: None more

a great place for the holidays 11/29/2009

I brought my wife and parents to the Riverview over the weekend for a thanksgiving celebration. The people working were courteous and helpful. the bartender makes outrageously delicious martinis and the food was so good. i had filet mignon, and my wife had salmon. everything was prepared well and full of flavor. we really had a very nice time and cannot wait to come back. maybe over christmas or new years! Pros: wonderful ambiance, great filet mignon more

its ok you pay for the atmosphere and not the food you get. 11/10/2009

sometimes i go there and its a great expereince, other times i go and the service is slow. The strip steak is horrible. some of the food on the menu is good but the prices are too much,. portions are small but the prices are hight, thats because you pay for the ambeince and now what u actually get on ur plate.\r \r THere a guy at the front i guess shes the host, i think he has glasses i really dont think he knows what hes doing, never greets us never says anything, i dont know its wierd i cant explain it.\r \r um also went o was inquring about having a party there just to see what it would cost. its like $85 for the food and extra $50 a person for open bar...SO RIDICULOUS\r \r one day i asked for water and they bring me water that they ended up charging me at the end withouth me knowing it, its was ridiculous..\r \r so conlusion the area is nice and all some of their food is good, but the service can be slow, the portions are small and the prices are up there for sure. with this recession that is a BIG NO NO THANKS Pros: restaurant is nice, outdoors is nice, food is ok Cons: too pricey, small portions expensive prices, service slow more

Great Place for a Wedding 10/31/2009

What a fantastic restaurant – from the owner, manager, assistant manager, bartenders, hostess and staff – we had an amazing experience for our wedding! The owner is a masterful planner and took all the worry of planning off our hands. The food was exceptional and we had almost everything on the menu from chicken, fish, to my favorite, the filet mignon – it all measures up to the finest served in Manhattan. Riverview has a tasty drink menu as well – try the mojitos. To top it all off, the location is perfectly situated on the water which allows for a view Manhattan that can not be rivaled. Thank you Riverview for making our wedding such an amazing experience; one which we will forever be thankful to you for. Pros: Food, staff, location, drinks more

Trendy Long Island City 10/27/2009

A large room with good ambiance where the feel is comfortable. The menu seems to fit everyones taste with prices that don't necersarly dictate whate u might order. The entrees were excellent. Avoid the soup and deserts--- overpriced and nothing to rave about.Over all a good deal east of the east river!! Pros: No need 2 go to Manhatten Cons: Dimly Lit and Techno Music more
