Great Italian eating 1/9/2007

We liked the food and the service, and, maybe I'm just an out-of-towner, but I found it ""romantic""; my idea of a great New York Italian restaurant. We'll be back often. Pros: food & service Cons: we don't live nearby more

Great food, Great place 1/7/2007

The food was excellent and the portions were very good. The sevice was attentive. The cost was reasonable and the restarant has a casual, comfortable atmophere. The Italian menu items we tried were excellent. Try the hot applitizer, you won't be dissapointed. Pros: Excellent Italian food Cons: None come to mind more

Terrific food for family and friends 1/5/2007

Great food and service. My wife and I have been dining here for over 25 years and with the new management it is better than it ever was. We went with friends on New Years Eve and had a fantastic meal. I had the Veal Marsala -- it was the best I ever had. Pros: Food, Ambience more

They put the 'Family' in family style 1/3/2007

If you are looking for pretentious decor, small portions and a snooty staff, this isn't the place to go. However, if you want to have a feast fit for a king , you found the right place. Every dish, from appetizers to desserts, were delightful and left little to be desired. The veal rollentini rivals any veal dish i've had anywhere in Manhattan's famed little Italy .They also have an expansive selection of wine and their cocktails are expertly poured. No matter how much you eat, you must leave some room for their assortment of fresh sorbet. If your in the area you must stop in and treat yourself to an excellent dining experience. more

Great Food, wine, desserts & service--New Owners have done a great upgrade 1/2/2007

The new owners have done a great job with the decor and also a tremendous upgrade in food quality. more

Bad food, Bad service 12/30/2006

The food here is very expensive to the quality you get. The food was lukewarm and the menu choices were limited. Cons: Bad food, bad waiter, bad ambiance more

Not recommended, bad service, average food 12/9/2006

I would not recommend this restaurant at all. The food was just average and the service was rude. There are much better italian restaurants in the area with much better food and service. Cons: rude service more

Bad customer service, Avoid it 12/9/2006

We went to the restaurant and had a really bad experience. We live in the neighborhood and we felt that we were treated badly by the wait staff. With so many seats available we were asked to wait 15 mins and then when asked about the soups available, I was rudely told to read the menu! I felt the food was average. Avoid it. Walk to Portofino's down the block or get pizza at Nicks Cons: Extremely rude staff more

Still good, but not as great as it used to be 11/20/2006

My family has dined here for a number of years. It used to be a great restaurant, one of the best in the neighborhood. However, a few years ago, we felt the quality started to go down. It's still a good restaurant for this neighborhood, but it's no longer a ""destination"" place. Service is still very good, but the food is the same as many other good Italian places around Queens. Pros: Good service, reliable food Cons: Not as great as it used to be more

Good Food and not to expensive 10/18/2006

Good Food and not to expensive. we got ther and got to be seated quickly. Service ok, prices ok too............................. Pros: Good Food and not to expensive more

Big portions of delicious food! 9/18/2006

I went with a big group, and we ordered a variety of items on the menu...everything looked and tasted delicious. The portions were big, the service was very good, and the prices can't be beat! It seems like a lot of local people dine here regularly because when the owners came out, they stopped at more than a few tables and seemed to remember who had sons or daughters and what was going on in their customers' lives. Pros: free valet parking, staff is very friendly Cons: only one valet guy working at the time so it took forever for us to get our car parked more

Batting a thousand.. 8/11/2006

We get to NYC a few times a year and since discovering this place a couple years ago we try to make it our main Italian dinner/lunch of the visit. I usually pick one entree and stick with it, but the half dozen times we've been here I've tried all my favorites and have never been disappointed. Bonus: they make a great cocktail and have an exhaustive wine selection. Only downside, and it's my bad... never have room for dessert! Pros: Subway stop right in front, reasonable cab fare from LGA or JFK Cons: Wine list a bit daunting, but that's me... more

Impeccable Food and Service 6/19/2006

The food and service are impeccable. The portions are family style so get ready to take home left overs. The service is top notch. The restaurant and bathrooms are spotless. The Valet parking is so convenient. There is never a water glass left empty. You must visit and enjoy the experience! Pros: Vallet Parking, Large Portions, Great Service more

If you live in manhattan, it's worth the trip! 4/6/2006

If you live in Queens, youre lucky. If you live in Manhattan, its well worth the trip. The Family Restaurant is the best, most authentic Italian weve been to in years. The place is totally renovated, very freindly and real comfortable. Every dish was a delight. The red sauce incredible. The portions big! The wait staff friendly, efficient, and know their stuff. more

User review by skors 4/4/2006

What a find! Homey neighborhood restaurant with great Italian food and friendly, attentive service--they really do treat you like family. Portions are huge, and everything is delicious. Plump mussels and tender fried calamari were both served with wonderful homemade sauces. The filet mignon was enormous, and prepared perfectly, and the shrimp and langostino over angel hair pasta with fra diavlo sauce was pure heaven. Even the veggies--like broccoli rabe sauteed with whole garlic cloves--were yummy. I can't wait to go back! more

Authentic Italian experience outside of City 4/2/2006

From the moment you arrive at the Family Restaurant you can feel the dedication to your comfort and enjoyment. The setting, a place to be in love or a place for friends and family, is comfortable, elegant and european in feel. Then the food. Be preapared to say to yourself ""why have I not dinned here before"". The real Italian cooking is as authentic as anyplace in NY. Mouth watering Pastas, Chicken, Veal and Seafood dishes were all savoured by our group of 6. Wine is a must with a meal this delicious and authentic!"" more

Really Great Pizza! 3/12/2006

The pizza here is out of this world! I'm very picky with my pizza. I like just the right combo of suace and cheese and this place has it down pat. We went there for the first time on Saturday and we will definitely be back! more
