This is a small but thriving Reform congregation entering its 25th year with a new rabbi and cantor. Temple Beth Emeth prides itself on its close-knit temple family. There's no office, no custodian or administrators. Volunteers handle everything from building repairs to tutoring bar and bat mitzvah students.
Attendance is always highest on the first Friday evening each month for the special Family Shabbat Service, which is more geared to families with young children. Instead of a sermon, Rabbi Shalhevet reads a storybook. The Religious School is innovative and education becomes a lifelong pursuit for congregants attending the many adult study programs -- including a semi-regular series of movie nights. Cantor Green plays the guitar and is one of those cantors whose goal is to sing with you -- not for you. The congregation also is blessed to have a beloved rabbi and cantor emeritus who served the congregation for 12 and 21 years, respectively, before retiring this summer.
