Bright latin fun 1/9/2011

I wasn't a big fan of typical Mexican food, but this place, I have to admit, has changed my opinion to a degree. I was there for an early Sunday lunch. There's not much parking in their lot, but I found a spot. There is a bar area with TVs and a dining area also with a TV. The decor is very typically garishly latin: bright colors and desert-themed. My waiter was fine and told me politely about what was on offer. I got free fried tortilla chips with three different salsas. The best I've had. Munched very quickly. I ordered the taco platter based on a review online and didn't regret it. I got three soft-shelled tacos, one each of shrimp, pork, and beef tongue. The tacos all had chopped onions and fresh cilantro. The beef tongue was out of this world! The tacos came with pretty tasteless rice and refried beans. I also ordered a special Mexican sangria soda which was fab. All in all, the platter was $7 and the soda was a whopping $2.50. I will be back. more

Authentic Mexican food in the heart of Norristown 4/17/2009

Had lunch at Michoacana yesterday. First of all the service was great, prompt service, and attentive. Drinks had a nice selection of traditional drinks, including selection of jarritos. Once DC had water (which they were prompt at refilling,) and another had a mixture of tamarind and negro modelo. I had horchata that was quite good. Chips were served with three salsas, the verde was the best., and we had some guacamole also. Freshly made but a bit underseasoned. Dining companions had flautas and tortillas with carnitas, pollo and camarones. Chicken tortillas were a bit bland, Flautas were good but nothing to write home about. My lunch was a torta cubana, a mixture of steak, sausage, ham, an egg, hot peppers lettuce tomato mayo on a crusty roll served warm accompanied by fries. Total for lunch was 35 for three. Pros: Great sandwiches Cons: Not as cheap as one would expect more

Food is just okay, the service is terrible. 1/3/2009

My family and I decided to try this place for the first time this week. As someone who eats Mexican food regularly, I was somewhat disappointed. The menu was extensive, with many authentic offerings. We tried the appetizer sampler, and some of the offerings seemed stale. Overall, the food wasn't bad--definitely better than most Mexican in the area. One plus was that they used fresh avacado slices in many dishes. Pros: Authentic, fresh avacado Cons: service, overpriced for the area more

Happy to find great mexican in PA! 12/10/2008

I've been spoiled by great Mexican food in California and in Texas and was worried that I'd have to give up my weekly fix once I moved to PA. I was thrilled to find this place with great salsas (three bowls come to your table!!), freshly made tortilla chips, and delicious carnitas. (Cheese dip? I've never ordered cheese dip in a mexican restaurant so I can't speak for their cheese dip. Doesn't sound like she was looking for authentic, but rather tex-mex.) Their corn tortillas did not seem to be handmade, but you can't have everything, and everything else I had was great. Pros: salsa, chips, carnitas, friendly staff, value, easy parking more

Taqueria La Michoacana best Mexican food in Montgomery County, PA 6/30/2008

I live in Norristown and have eaten at all of the 30 or more of the Mexican restaurants in town and Taqueria La Michoacana is the best authentic Mexican cuisine in town. The food is always excellent and the portion sizes are huge. The restaurant is very clean and classy Mexican decor. I especially love all of their seafood meals not to mention the shrimp cocktail which comes in 3 sizes and is chock full of large shrimp, a meal in itself although it is under appetizers. I highly recomend this restaurant, great for the whole family and small parties. more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!! 6/20/2008

Where do I even begin. I just moved her from the South and was looking for authentic mexican food, so I thought I'd give this place a try. It was by far the worst experience I have ever had eating out. I order queso (cheese dip) - I had to send it back once becuase I asked for no sausage and of course she brought it with sausage. When the server brought it back the 2nd time it looked like cheese zapped in a microwave, it was so rubbery that I could not get a chip into it. 10 minutes later after the server came back to check on us, I told her very nicely that this is not what I was asking for and tried to explain what I meant. She rudly walked away while I was talking and did not come back. 15 minutes later my husband called her back to our table and asked her why she walked away when we were trying to talk to her, she then walked away again. It was one of those moments where you think you're on America's funniest videos. We were stunned. She then comes back with who I assue was the owner who immediately has an attitude with us as if we were the problem. I tried to explain to the owner what I was requesting, I then took a chip to show her how it bounces right off of the cheese. She then says ""I can't take that back now, you've ruined it."" Was she planning to resell it or something. We decided to cancel our order, pay for our watered down drinks and leave. I do not recommend this place to anyone. It's not authentic, the staff is slow and incredibly rude. Pros: NONE!!!!!! Cons: Everything!!!! more

Really good authentic Mexican food 2/25/2007

I really like good Mexican food. I?ll tolerate Tex-Mex or even Taco Bell if I?m starving, but I?m always on the lookout for a cost-effective quality Mexican restaurant. This is the best one I?ve found since Cool Salsa Blue in Blue Bell closed. TLM is a place I take my friends to ? what more can I say. Pros: Quality of food, cost-effective pricing, friendly and responsive service, wall murals Cons: ambience isn?t right for an intimate dinner, sometimes must wait for seating more

Best Mexican Around 1/17/2006

This is the best Mexcian place around, great value and food to match, don't let the neighborhood fool you! more

Heart of Norristown Renaissance 7/17/2005

This Taqueria is a personal favorite of mine. I eat here at least twice a month as well. They have a little bar in the back, though I've never stuck around to try it. The beverage list includes many local favorites, but also a very good selection of Latin American beers and juice drinks. Romantic? Not at all, but not a bad place for a laid back dinner with a friend. Good for kids? Yes, during the afternoon. Large groups? I've seen large family meals (upwards of 10 people) on Sundays as well as local foriegn language classes (around 15 people) during weekday lunch. The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is very laid back, the food is good and cheap, there's plenty of parking... what more could you want? more

I love this place. The food is terrific, large servings, reasonable prices. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I eat here at least twice a month and enjoy every meal. Back to the food - it is authentic Mexican and you will be very pleased with whatever choice you make. more

Awesome restaurant. 5/10/2005

I'm a big mexican food fan, and I've been to most of the ones in the suburbs, and a few downtown. This place rocks! The food is outstanding! I've been there in groups, on several occasions, so I've tried many items on their menu. It's all good. It seems pretty authentic, and sometimes I wound up just picking something I didn't recognize and trying it. Yummy stuff. Don't let the location affect your decision. The neighborhood has come around over the years. Plus, a super bonus, the prices are very reasonable. This is my 1st review, and I sound like I work for these guys, but it was really a good restaurant. Pros: Great food., Low prices. Cons: location sounds scary more

Verrrrry Good Eats 7/7/2004

Although the neighborhood looks a little scary, it is fine.....Once inside this place is wonderful from the Margarita's to the authentic food....I highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking for authentic mexican food at authentic mexican food prices, this is the place to go. Great food, cheap bill....what more can I say. Pros: Authentic Food, Inexpensive, Friendly Staff more

great restaurant 9/14/2003

the food is authentic! very good. waiters and waitresses are very knowledgable of the food. they need a more bilingual staff. Pros: authentic food, awsome hours, reasonably priced more

wow. 7/28/2003

Where do I even begin? Try the red enchiladas, which are huge and come in these great handmade, thick corn tortillas. The batidos (mexican milkshakes) are incredible. Try the chocolate. Not to be missed is the tres leches cake, which is the densest, best version I've ever had. This is my favorite restaurant of all time, and if you go you'll see why. Pros: authentic, variety, not crowded more
