Don't waste your time, or your money, this place is not worth it. We had really bad sevice the first time we were there and decided to give it another try only to be disappointed...

Not what expected, terrible service, ok food. 9/7/2008

Don't waste your time, or your money, this place is not worth it. We had really bad sevice the first time we were there and decided to give it another try only to be disappointed. Our food was cold (the one that was supposed to be hot), it took over 20 minutes for the waitress to take our drink order and then another 20 to get our drinks. We were there for almost an hour before we got the soups that we ordered for appetizers, and there were only two other tables with customers in the restaurant, I would hate to be there when it's full. We complained to the manager, who didn't do anything to fix the problem, instead they added 18% gratuity to our bill for the terrible service we got. Food was just ok, not worth it. Needless to say, we do not recommend Sushi Mara and would not be dinning there in the future. Cons: cold food, terrible service, bad management. more

Awesome Sushi!! 1/21/2008

This restaurant is awesome. The sushi is always fresh and delicious and the service is super friendly. They have interesting and exciting specials. The sushi chefs try their best to make your experience fun. Its a cheers type environment where if you're a regular everyone knows your name and even better, your drink order. The waitress is always super sweet but she can get busy when the room fills up so put in your requests early and be patient. If you live in the area put this place on your list of favorites! more

Believe the hype!! 7/20/2007

So I've read all the pros and cons about this little sushi joint and I'd have to say there is a little bit of truth to all of it. The sushi is absolutely outstanding and I don't think that this point can be at all contested. The fish comes in daily except for Sundays - per the chefs. It's obvious that this sushi staff cares a great deal about what they are producing and how it comes out. I'm always blown away at how beautiful the plates look and my guests always say they'll be back for the food. The specials always are outstanding so I'd recommend those and I can't say there isn't anything I don't like on the sushi menu\r \r The room is cozy and quaint but can definitely get loud during the weekends as this place is packed to the gills with waits up to an hour!! Come in early or be prepared to sit at the bar and enjoy one of the best wine lists this side of Boulder City. Just be patient because as I have found out people like to sit in this little restaurant and getting them to leave is painstaking.\r \r As the room is small and there are only two chefs the wait for the food can be a little long and the one server a little overwhelmed when it's busy. On the slower nights the service has always been spot on but when it gets too busy it can be hard to flag her down. If you are looking for stellar service I'd say go on the weekdays.\r \r All in all this little sushi restaurant is a gem not only to Boulder County but also to Boulder City itself!\r Pros: Best Sushi in Boulder Cons: Too Popular more

Terrible service & rude management 5/30/2007

I'd heard good things about Sushi Mara, but they all turned out to be false. Don't waste your time, there are better sushi restaurants in the area with competent, professional management.\r \r After having the same waitress give us terrible service on repeated visits, I spoke to management. They wouldn't even consider the fact that their waitress might be incompetent or rude, but instead berated me for not appreciating their ""wonderful"" restaurant. Perhaps the chronically forgetful waitress is his daughter? Needless to say, I won't be dining at, or recommending Sushi Mara in the future. Cons: Rude, Arrogant Management more

Great Sushi! 5/24/2007

I had a few rolls and some tuna...I was very impressed. Now I am not afraid to go to sushi outside of NYC! more

Best Bustling Sushi Around 5/21/2007

Gotta love the city feel of this bustling little sushi restaurant. The food and service take me back to the best sushi restaurants in NYC!! The fish is always fresh and the sushi, sashimi and rolls beautifully presented. The sushi chefs tell me it is flow in daily from around the world. I prefer the small sushi bar because the chefs are always willing to talk up what they are serving you. \r \r A word of warning for the weekend crowd that this place gets busy and service a little slow, I recommend going earlier on in the week when individual attention is available. Pros: Best sushi in town Cons: Busy on the weekends more

Horrible Service! 4/26/2007

I'll never subject myself to this place again.\r \r Sushi Mara in Lafayette offers decent sushi, but be prepared to endure some of Boulder county's WORST service. I've frequently had to ask our underage busperson to get us another round of saki, as our waitress has disappeared for yet another 20 minute span. Our order has been incorrect the last several times we visited. They forget appetizers, and when asked about the tempura we ordered as our main course arrives, we were asked (with a straight face, mind you) ""Would you like your tempura for desert? We'll keep it warm under the heatlamps for you?"" If I wanted soggy, heat lamp warmed food, I'd be eating at McDonalds, not a sushi restaurant.\r \r Do not eat at Sushi Mara unless you enjoy a heaping helping of bad attitude with your poor service. Pros: decent sushi Cons: rude, incompetent servers more

Very good sushi 11/30/2006

I was impressed with the quality of this place. The food was good, delivered in a timely manner and the wait staff was fairly attentive to our needs. We went during the week later in the evening so we had no problem getting a table. Is was a positive experience for us. Pros: good quality ingredients Cons: Small room, I can see it being noisy when full more

Sushi Mara Rocks 10/25/2004

What a great place. The small room is intimate, though a bit noisy. The service was right on and most importantly the fish was fantastic. Who would have though Lafayette could deliver such great sushi!!! Be sure to check out the daily specials - they even have the little live crabs. The cool thing is that you can get sushi AND order off the Magnolia menu if you're in the mood for some continental cuisine. Pros: Great Fish, Attentive Service, Good Sake Selection Cons: , A more

I sat at Bryan's bar and let him select a fabulous meal for me. I could not have been more pleased Pros: Fresh Fish, Great Service Cons: , A little noisy more
