I've been to Glenwood, Mt. Princeton and more, and there's nothing else like this! Beautiful, brilliant design, stunning surroundings, and very remote. It's truly dark at night and the stars are amazing.
Bring an adventurous spirit and try all the different pools. As my wife, Renee, said, this is the Goldilocks of hot springs, with MANY pools to choose from, one of them is bound to be JUST RIGHT!
Bring a tiny flashlight, but try to do without it, because there's more than enough ambient, natural light--even in a near wilderness--to walk safely. The path down from the parking lot is smooth and safe--and the walk takes just long enough for your eyes to adjust.
The springs are about 2 miles beyond the end of the pavement up a well-maintained, but steep, twisty gravel road. Good snow tires or 4-wheel drive are a must in the winter, but any car can make the trip when the road is clear. We rode a big road bike for our first visit--no problem at all.
What to bring: bottled water (you WILL get thirsty), sandals (some of the paths are gravel), towels (the do rent them), tiny flashlight or cell phone for light, warm clothes (for departure at night), CASH (they don't take credit cards--$10/person).
We will go back EVERY time we are in Steamboat!
Pros: Unique and spectacular!
Cons: The road is challenging--but the website gives fair warning!
