Dedicated Caring Experienced Veterinarian Office 4/1/2012

I first found out about Hopewell Veterinary Service through an add in the newspaper for a Rabies Clinic. I had just gotten a young pitbull terrior mix Keira who had been abandoned. My Fiance took Keira to the Rabies clinic and he was so pleased with the service that we both decided to switch Vets since we were not very happy with the current Vet we were going to. Every time we bring our pets into the office we are treated with kindness and the staff is very knowledgeable, answering any and all question we have. Even though Keira is a pitbull and our kitties our obnoxious the doctors and staff treated my babies as if they were their own making us feel very comfortable that our pets were in the best possible hands and care. I recommended Hopewell to my family and friends sharing my experiences and they now all take their pets to Hopewell and love the staff and doctors as we do. If your looking for a caring dedicated knowledgeable experienced Veterinarian Office then Hopewell is the place more

Choose another Vet!!! 7/21/2011

Hopewell was suggested to us because they were cheaper than the other vets around the area in which we live. We wanted affordable care because of finanical reasons. Hopewell is not a bad place if you are just getting your pets routine vaccinations even though the staff (mostly the actual veterinarians there) are not very people oriented. We had to pull information out of them about our puppy. They did not ask if we had any questions or concerns. They spoke very few words to us. I don't even think they actually did a thorough exam on our pitbull the whole time we had her there. We took our Sadie there for her regular vaccinations, heartworm preventive, etc. When our beloved Sadie developed lumps, they started her on antibiotics. They never even mentioned taking a biopsy/aspirate at that time. It was a week later when we found more lumps that they decided to do a fluid aspirate. The doctor stated that the results would be back within a week. It turns out they did not get the more

Uncompassionate & Unprofessional 4/26/2011

First I have to say I have no problems with Dr. Preston. It's Dr. Slajchert that is the problem. Every experience I've had with him has left me feeling cold. The most recent experience we've had was with our 3-1/2 yr old cat. My daughter took her to due to weight loss and a large abdomnen. This cat has not been out of the house in 4 years. Dr. Slajchert told her she could have fetuses inside her that have not aborted..really????? Then proceeded to tell my 19 yr old daughter that the cat need $1200 exploratory surgery. As I spoke with him on the phone about the situation (sobbing) he had no compassion what so ever for the situation. One of the techs there also made a derogatory comment to my daughter about the situation. Wow! Good job. Could you make someone feel any worse about havIng to do the inevitable??? Needless to say NONE of my animals will go back to this office. DR. PRESTON DO YOUSELF AND YOUR CLIENTS A FAVOR AND GET RID OF DR. JERK. more

Don't take my toe 10/20/2010

I have been using hopewell for the last 7 years or so. Dr Preston was never very personable however she always seems to be knowledgable and the girls are always pleasent. I have decided to change my vet recently. I took Duke, a 113 pound Mix to see the vet. Duke had a limp that had been getting worse. Dr Slajchert was on duty that day. This Dr. instantly had an attitude with my wife and I. He asked very few questions and was very unprofessional. We told one of the girls who was gathering information that the groomer had said the dogs toe looked broken. Dukes toe had always been a question since he was a puppy and it had never bothered him. The Dr ordered blood work and xrays, After it was all said and done he told us the toe needs to be amputated. My wife and I were shocked, the Dr said if we would have brought him in sooner they would have been able to do something??? Long story short I took him to another vet and they deteremined that his toe was unusual however it was not the proble more

great service 9/10/2010

I have been taking my dogs there for years. The vet and vet techs are always compassionate and caring towards what they do. Dr. Preston is a very good vet and works great with the animals and their owners. I highly recommend Hopewell Vet Services. more

Please read ALL 1 star reviews and take into consideration 9/8/2010

Visited w/my 12 years old dog in June for check-up/shots, apparently no general exam was performed. Returned in Sept. as she was sluggish and not eating. Vet could feel some type of mass in her abdomen (not sure why it wasn't discovered in June as it was rather significant in size). After blood work & x-rays the vet determined that she had a tumor in her abdomen and fluid in her chest. Suggested a sonogram and specialist or he could perform exploratory surgery next day. After watching the dogs of other family members/friends struggle with similar conditions and treatment was unsuccessful, I said that I did not want to put her through the trauma of surgery so late in life, especially with what seemed to be such a small guarantee. He offered to try antibiotics and pain relievers (I wanted to ensure that if I took her home she would not have any discomfort). He said that maybe if the pain was relieved she would eat and possibly feel better. I wish I would've recognized how quickly more

Jinxy's Home Away from Home! 5/13/2010

This vet is wonderful! Dr. Preston is extremely professional and always takes good care of my Sphynx cat, Jinxy. Couldn't be happier with the prices and the availability of service. The staff is very caring and compassionate and always treats my cat like he is their own. more

not happy with service at all 5/7/2010

I was not impressed with this vet at all. Not very personable. I had a shepherd that lost his vision, and his balance, presented with vomiting as well. She left the bulk of her calls when conversing to her hospital staff instead of making a return call herself. Ended up taking my shepherd to the ER for pets in Bel Air. Vet said he was going downhill fast, possible stroke or brain tumor...nothing at all that took elaborate testing. I had to put my shepherd down. \r \r Shame that she didn't see more to the pet when making the exam.\r \r Then when I called the office back, I was sent a computer typed sympathy card, not a handwritten note. more

Pets Mom 1/12/2010

I have taken all of my pets to Hopewell Vet. Dr. Preston is not the most personable person but I do believe she is very professional and does her job to the best of her ability. However, her assistants are "the best"!!! I always go into the exam room with all my pets and they have never used excessive force on either my cats or dogs. I had to have my 14 yr old rottie euthanized and they all were very compassionate. Later had both my young dogs fixed and I had absolutely no problems! I don't have the money to go to Patton in Red Lion so I would recommend Dr. Preston and go a few extra miles. more

highly recommend Hopewell Veterinary 7/25/2009

Dr. Preston and her staff of "girls" (and Tom) are so very kind and ready to help no matter what the problem may be. They are there most of the time, be it by appointment or walk-in. Their prices are good in this time of financial hardships. I have my cats there so often that her and her staff feel like "family". Dr. Preston has seen my cats thru regular check-ups, questions, emergencies and euthaniza. The last one is so very hard for me to deal with, but Dr Preston and her staff are there with me until the end. The waiting room is too small for the volume of patients they have, but a bigger room would mean bigger prices. July 25, 2009 more

Hopewell Veterinary Svc is subpar 7/3/2009

We took our ailing 13 y/o golden retriever there as a second opinion on euthanasia - a very hard decision to make. The vet literally lifter her on the scale, listened to her lungs for 30 seconds and said that there was no indication for euthanasia....he didn't ask about her quality of life, eating habits, elimination habits, activity or ANYTHING. We obviously needed someone to look objectively at the whole picture and help us with the struggle that we were having w/ our old girl. I felt he dismissed it so quickly and then told us she should have a $500 surgery to remove a growth on her eyelid. Needless-to-say we are even more conflicted in making decisions for our elderly dog whose health is deteriorating. more

First Class Care 2/4/2009

Dr. Preston is as available as any veterinary health care professional with whom I have ever dealt. She has appointment hours and walk-up hours; who else does that today? Her staff is dedicated to the animals and to her. I have gotten lab work returned while I remained in the waiting room and Hopewell provides services at extremely affordable rates. My family and I have been very pleased and take all of our dogs there for everything from Lyme Disease to C-sections. They are simply the best care and value we have found in the area. more

know what YOU are doing 11/5/2008

Going to a vet is as important to your family as going to a physician is. If you don't know what you are doing and what you need to accomplishish you are sunk before you park. \r \r I've know and dealt with this veterinary hospital for more than 2 dozen years. They are great for ordinary, no issue check ups and vaccines, etc. THAT'S IT!! I fully believe that they are 100% heart and dedication. That in itself is priceless. My kids (all 3 adults) go to Dr Preston.\r \r But don't be a dummy - today we don't just go into any professional office and throw ourselves into the mercy of their decisions and acts. You can request that you stay with your pet. They might charge you more but they should always allow that & if they don't, I would wonder why...\r \r If you're looking for a more serious, more intense service, as in surgery, use a vet that is honest, proficient & available. I usually recommend Dr London in York - but recently I learned that he is no more honest than a street corne more

Horrible 10/8/2008

I took my dog there because he was limping. They did blood tests and xrays and determined he had a broken pinky toe. They splinted it and bandaged it. After one week, my dog had a HUGE bloody sore, 1 1/2" x 1" in size because the sharp edge of the splint had been digging into his leg for a week. I removed the bandage and splint. He isn't even limping now after just one week. They wanted the splint on for 4 weeks and then wanted to re-xray. My dog will never go there again.\r \r I also took my dog's fecal sample in that had a tapeworm in it. After waiting for an hour, the tech came out and said my dog did not have worms. Yeah, right. more

dont go there 5/14/2008

I took my cat to this vet on 04-16-08 4 days before its first birthday (04-20-08) I took her for breathing problems. Doctor preston told the techs to do a chest exam and blood tests. They told me to wait in the waiting room and when we did we heard HORRIBLE screams. 5 minutes after the screams they came out to tell me that my cat had died. They restrained her and held her down so long, knowing her had breathing problems, that they strangled her. more
