Unfortunate Disappointment 1/24/2011

The best part: The bottle of wine and the crab meat in the lump crab risotto and the scallops. I went to Stella Blu after hearing amazing things about the restaurant and reading their diverse menu. For an appetizer, we ordered the Lump Crab Risotto. The crab was fantastic. The mushrooms placed on top of the risotto were also great. The risotto was entirely inconsistent and stuck in our teeth. Parts were cooked well, parts were over-cooked and parts were under-cooked. Overall, a toss-up for the appetizer. For dinner, she ordered the scallops with tomato risotto and I ordered the Chicken Marianne. My dinner had literally no flavor. The mashed potatoes were bland. The green beans were bland. The chicken was overdone and the sauce was visible but tasteless. I returned it and had it removed from our bill. The grilled scallops were perfect but the risotto issue from our appetizer was revisited. Overall, the environment is cozy. The wine list is decent. Just don't order chicken or risotto. Dinner cost $83 and was worth about $20. more

As I walked into the newly decorated Stella Blu, I could not believe my eyes. It was so beautiful and calming. We were greeted by a lovely woman, who must have been the owner, because she was so gracious. We sat in the front tables ,and it even got better ,our waiter lookes like he just walked out of GQ magazine. He was so energenic and helpful, in regards to the dinner ,and to the bottles of wine. He told us he has been working there since he was 16 years old. We are going BACK. Only if Mr. GQ is our waiter!!!\r Good job Stella!!! Oh by the way, the food was awsome. No other restaurant in this area can compare. Pros: Service ,food, atmosphere, waiters Cons: No reservations more

Good Food - terrible service 9/26/2007

Greeted at the door by a guy sitting on the stairs who was dressed as though he was bike riding, myself and my GF waited outside for the 3rd member of our party to pull up. She did, little did i know the guy in the biker's attire was the valet. The 3rd member of our party, driving a day-old car chose to park her car herself but followed the valet to the lot across the street. She offered to take the ticket and pay the valet fee. The valet declined the money (nice guy btw). As we approached the door, a woman wearing a dress half-falling off beseiged us about parking in the lot across the street. The woman, w/o announcing that she even worked or was affiliated with the restaurant cited the fact that ""she pays alot of money to park over there"" . We offered to pay the valet fee again, which was only 4 dollars and not that big of a deal on our part. Her rant continued until we were halfway to our table. Obviously now we realized she had something to do with the restaurant, although i still dont know what. (I should have walked out right then, but didnt) Now i will be critical of service since our greeting was so rude. The waiter asked us to order wine the second we sat without a chance to couple it with our food or even look at the menu. We ordered a few glasses of wine, which were not carried by the stem while served, and ordered. The specials were ""ho-hum"" so were ordered from the menu. I ordered a ceasar salad with my entree. Our server brought out my salad and told me if i wanted fresh ground pepper ""it's over there"" pointing to a pepper mill burried at the end of the table. Entrees came with no real fanfare. They were good, portions generous and presentation was on par for the price. Another glass of wine was served like it was a can of soda. The lights were a bit too dim to eat and the table next to us smelled like mothballs. Those were just minor inconveniences compared to the crazy lady harping about her parking fees at the door. Will not return. more

Cozy & Different 4/23/2007

One of our favorites, it has different specials all the time, and they are always willing to tell your their favorites. The prices are fair but can be a bit high- 13- 32 $ for entrees, but they you can get a ton of their huge appetizers and salds to share if you're watching your budget. The parking in the area is terrible, but they have a valet for under 5$ which is amazing if you're used to going out in the city. Reservations can be hard to get, but they encourage you to just walk in, and the few times that the wait was more than 20 minutes or so, they got us a table at their other restaurant up the street about a block. Not great for young kids or really big groups, (over 10 or so) it's perfect for us and another couple or two, and our teenage kids love the food- we get it to go at the end of the meal and bring home to them :) \r Pros: Food, service & atmosphere Cons: parking more

Lousy 8/4/2005

If you want good Italian food stay away from this place. The Shrimp Fra Diavlo consisted of five shrimp over pasta for $23.95. So it better have alot of taste right ....wrong tasted like Prego with crushed red pepper. It's a ripoff, losey food at high prices. Drive the extra 20min to the city, this place isn't worth the time of day. Pros: its over Cons: price, food, service more

Loved it!!!! 7/8/2004

We have had many dinners at Stella Blu. The food is always amazing! The place is small and usually crowded. So, be sure to call for reservations. We've also had dinner at their new restaurant, The Gypsy Saloon (just up the street). The food is excellent there, too. And they have a big bar and outdoor seating. Our two favorite restuarants are on the same block and owned by the same people! Pros: Excellent food, great people watching, Great atmosphere more

thirtysomething 3/25/2004

My wife and I have visited Stella Blu a number of times, often before a movie in Plymouth Meeting. They sems to change the entrees fairly regularly and there is always a bit of creativity to the specials. It is a small intimate place with mostly tables for two and four with a few for six. The owner works as the hostess and the staff is informal and generally friendly, although, as with every restaurant, getting a good waiter/waitress is hit or miss. We have found the food to be above average and the kitchen has always been willing to 'adjust' entrees per our request. While not not the location for an anniversary dinner, it is good for a fun evening with unpretentious friends. Pros: suburb location, cheerfulness, food Cons: , size more

Veru Suspicious!!! 11/7/2002

Needless to say we were very disappointed with Stella Blu...not with the food...not with the atmosphere but with the fact that after having a drink at the bar we were brought to our table after asking if we settled our bar tab..we answered yes but the hostess/owner did not believe us and verified it with the bartender (while we were standing there). Pretty rude but we ignored it until we received our bill and thank goodness looked at it because we were double charged....FOR THE WHOLE BILL! Our $100 bill was over $200!! So now we were treated like criminals then turns out they are the criminals! Don't think we will be going back! more
