Best Italian in Sherman Oaks! 3/25/2010

I drive by this restaurant almost every day and finally decided to give it a try last week. The reviews don't lie. This place is pretty special. We made a reservation and we had to wait a little , almost 25 minutes because this place was jam packed . I get the feeling all the locals go here because of its great ' familia style' and cheap delicious food. Although the owner( who made a point of personal greeting us and shaking our hand) seems to be Eastern European and not Italian. Clearly, they don't rush anyone as we were waiting there for a while. There will still people coming in at 915 -9 30 pm which is RARE to eat so late in LA . The meatball starters for 2.95 were delish, so light so airy! chicken siciliana and spaghetti portofino were amazing. I LOVE that they give you free tiramisu every time as well This is a must try! Pros: delicious food, family run, great prices, free tiramisu! Cons: quite small, may be a wait more

Our goto Italian Sitdown in the Valley 1/26/2010

Spumoni is our well-priced, above average, Italian sit down dinner restaurant. The owner is a wonderful restauranteur, friendly as all hell, and he always greets you with a smile. The food is VERY GOOD (but not great), and the service is above average. I love their Quattro Stagioni Pizza, and many of the pastas, gnocchis and chicken dishes are very good. The Caesar salad needs a bit of work. Pros: Wonderful owner, good food, dessert Cons: Chairs suck more

Best Food and Service out there.. I don't know WHAT these outrageous people are saying below. 5/2/2008

I am a very picky person and I try not to try anything new. But when one of my good friends recommended this place with such enthusiasm I had to try it. And luckily I did. I wasn't disappointed at all! The waiter named Vasak was a comical and genuinely nice guy who made sure EVERYTHING was taken care. The food was to DIE FOR! I had the Pollo Dela Casa which made my mouth water. The creamy sauce and warmly melted cheese is still on my mind. The dessert was free and I can?t believe anyone would have the nerve to complain about the size. That just shows what kind of person ?honeybuns84? is. I?m glad that cow of a person will never be returning so I will never run into them!!!! That?s just shocking. Pros: FOOD SERVICE EVERYTHING! Cons: nothing I could think of.. more

if you like your food cold 10/24/2007

Food was good but service was horrid! 8/31/2007

The food was decent enough. I love gnocchi and they had lots to choose from... the service was, however, HORRIBLE! The place wasn't even packed. For the good hour and a half that we were there we saw our waiter 2 times. Once to place the order and once (after we chased him down) to give us the check. No refills, no desserts were offered. In a food culture like the LA area you cannot lack on service. I won't be going back due to the service and so-so food. Pros: Seated fast and food was served fast. Cons: Service, lack of dessert menu, etc. more

My words can only explain so much....... 2/15/2007

This restaurant has been on my number one list for many years, and will continue to be for many more because of its such great qualities. Vasik is not only the best waiter around but the greatest most sincere friend you will ever hope to have. Go to this restaurant and i dare you not to be friends with him, his charming extremely large smile will persuade anyone to have some wine and tiramisu (which is persuasive enough on its own!...my mouth is watering as i speak :) Reading the two reviews below mine i can't help but disagree on the highest level. Perfection does not exist but spumoni comes close to it, and they constantly work at perfecting what they do. In response to the supposed inequality they were accused of i say "" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!"" Lets just say, in order to keep peace, that if you are completely obnoxious don't blame the cold shoulder on you're status of race, religion, or anything of the sort. Pros: outstanding service, delicious food, romatic and great for kids, Cons: sometimes have to wait for a seat on friday nights, make reservations. more

Used to be better 1/14/2007

We used to order from this restaurant every week or so, for mostly pizza, salads and pasta. I feel like something has changed for the worse in the kitchen. The pizza is still good but not the rest of what we used to like. For instance, one of the best dishes, the spaghetti portofino (rock shrimp, spaghetti, pink vodka sauce) has gone downhill. The shrimp are chewy and watery, and the sauce is tasteless. I've tried it 3 times in the last 3 months, and it was bad each time. The salad dressings seem like they come out of a supermarket and they are using horrible unripe roma tomatoes, and hardly give you any. Don't get the tomato and fresh mozz salad - it should be with large beefsteak tomatoes. The lettuce is watery. I really hope they change, otherwise, we are just going to order pizza. more

Somewhat pleasant, not ""family"" friendly 12/28/2006

After reading many positive reviews, we decided to try this establishment. The owner seated us and made us feel welcome. The ceasar salad looked sparse and was medicore, however, the gnocci was very good. more

Great Food, Great Price, Great Service! 11/12/2006

We just happened to stumble upon this quaint restaurant in our neighborhood. We were plesently suprised by a smiling service staff, extrodinary food, and a complimentary dessert. I think we've just found our new favorite spot! more

Great Food - Warmest Service 10/7/2006

Enough cant be said - You just have to go there, especially if you like variety. Pros: Great authentic selection and Service! Cons: A bit small 20 - 25 tables, so get there early! more

Great food; personal attention; great value & kid friendly 7/31/2006

referred by a friend to this Sherman Oaks rest. 5 yrs ago- been going couple times a month ever since. Outstanding food (especially the gnocci) - A++ plus service; very cheap corkage fee (wine list is a bit light)... great w/ kids or after the movies. more

Great value for a weekday meal! 5/2/2006

This small Italian restaurant offers great food, exceptional service, in uninspiring ambience. The best part of the meal is the exceptional service and hospitable nature of the the wait staff. I was disappointed with the atmosphere but the low prices will keep me coming back. Pros: Service, Food, Price Cons: Atmosphere, Location, parking more

Great place 2/15/2006

I've been going to Spumoni for the past 3 years. Great italian food, great service! Would highly recommend it! Pros: Great food, service, value more

Nice Little Jewel of Sherman Oaks. 11/7/2005

My friends and I randomly picked this restaurant to eat at and we were pleasantly surprised with Spumoni. The food was absolutely delicious and the price was reasonable for what you get. The only knock on this restaurant is that it in a small venue as it probably seats no more than 20-30 people. So, it's probably best to try and make a reservation before heading in. Pros: Food, Price, Service Cons: Size of Restuarant more

The best italian experience! 9/18/2005

I've been going to Spumoni for over 5 years now - even drove all the way to the valley when they moved from the west side! Everything on the menu, I mean everything, is good depending on your taste. And don't forget the pasta and seafood speacials! Vasik, the owner, will recommend the perfect wine for your meal, and always treat you like your part of his family. The meal is topped off with a frothy cappuccino and their award-wining tiramisu - I travelled all over Italy and couldn't wait to come home to his! Go there - experience Spumoni! more

ummm! Delicious!!! 9/15/2005

YUM! Spumoni is the best producer of cream sauce. For those of you who are like me and love it, here r some exellent dishes: tortollini alla panna, pollo dela casa, gnocci da vicci and more... speaking of gnocci, those dumplings taste like they came from heaven. They service is great, Anna, a young beautiful waitress, is always sooo helpful. I recently have a birthday party there with 10 of my closest friends and we all were very happy. They atmosphere is great! The homemade tiramisus are to die for. Pros: exellent service, They deliver, Food's delicious more

Shocked/In Our Backyard 7/18/2005

Went to this restaurant by accident--thought we were going to a different one with a similar name. Glad we tried it...it was amazing! Very good neighborhood joint with terrific Italian food and wonderful service. Finally found someone who makes good pasta--no soggy noodles here! Prices are very reasonable and the food is so good! more

BEST ITALIAN EVER 2/7/2005

I went to Spumoni's expecting nothing but great food. My friends had been raving about it and I decided to check it out for myself. I've got to say that they have the BEST ITALIAN FOOD EVER. The ambiance was splended and our waiter, Sam, a young man with glasses, was extremely nice to us. Not only was the food wonderful, but the service and atmosphere were terrific. I LOVE THIS PLACE! Pros: Terrific Prices, Great Service, Excellent Food more
