Gone Again 5/13/2010

A great historic location with its own trout pond. It is well off the beaten path, so very hard to find. This has been through multiple owners. Stopped by to find it closed again with a sign for an auction that was to occur in Apr 2010. I hope someone can make it work. Pros: Great History Cons: Off the beaten patch, closed again more

Food was great. Don't trust the website. 6/16/2008

My wife and I wanted a place that was an eclectic place with outdoor seating and great food. The Spring Valley Inn outside of Hellertown, PA fit the bill perfectly. It's a little hard to find unless you type the address into your GPS. We had been there once before, shortly after the new owners had purchased it. Parking looks to be an issue when you first get there; however, there is adequate parking on the opposite side of the street just around the corner. Do not trust the website. The new owners have not taken it down and it has old information on it. They really need to get this fixed. If they posted a menu online, they'd attract new customers. This place has been in operation since the early 1800's and has never been completely shut down. It is as old a building as you'll find in that area. The interior dining is nice. You can request a seat by the window when you make your reservation. This will give you a good view of the garden area. The outside bar is much like you would expect under a tiki hut at the beach. The garden area is nice to walk around and watch the fountains and trout swimming around. They raise their own trout on premises. Our server was a college kid who was really nice and friendly. My wife chose the broiled Maryland seafood sampler and I had the trout and filet. Both meals came with freshly baked bread(really delicious), Au gratin potatoes(really delicious), salad, and mixed fresh vegetables. The filet was perfectly done and extremely tender. The trout had plenty of flavor and was served de-boned to save me the hassle. My wife's seafood was also very good. After living on the eastern shore of Maryland for several years, the crab cake left something to be desired. Years ago, we probably would be raving about it, but nothing really compares after you've had the real thing so many times. Drinks were good and moderately priced. Overall a good experience. Go for the ambiance and stay for the food. Pros: Outdoor dining, good food, friendly people, Eclectic location Cons: bad website info, service was a little unprofessional, more

Great Meal 5/13/2008

Been at Spring Valley several times over the years, some experiences were better than others. New owner has made some great improvements to the place, and it sounds as though more upgrades are on the way! For the most part, staff has always been exceptional, very accomodating. Bar and dinner menus are excellent, a wide variety of choices. Pros: Food, Service, Weekend Entertainment, Outside Dining Cons: Parking more

Great Little Place 5/6/2008

My family and I recently moved to area and were looking for some local restaurants to visit. New friends suggested we go to Spring Valley Inn. What a great place. We have never been to a restaurant like this one. The menu selection is huge, with everything from bar food type items up through fine dining meals. We ate in the dining room and had a wonderful meal and experience. The atmosphere is great and the view of the garden is wonderful. We plan on coming back very soon to dine outside by the ponds. Highly recommend. Pros: Setting, atmosphere, food Cons: Little tough to find on first visit. more

Poor Food! 3/24/2008

Me and my extended family ate here for Easter. They had a buffet with Lamb meat that was OK, mashpotato's with caned gravy, caned corn, the smallest shrimp I have ever seen, mushrooms stuff with caned tuna, Dried tastless fish, Clams in the shell that were way over cooked to the point there was nothing left, fried crab something that was mostly all oil. I could go on and on. I would stay away from this place. Our family party all agreeded not to be comming back. It's ashame because it a nice looking place. Pros: Nice exterior Cons: The Food and service more

Updated review of Spring Valley Inn - still a great bar, but.... 12/13/2007

My former review was last fall. It is not maintaining the quality I had known for several years. The drinks are still good and generous. The food, however, is not the same quality. Last visit found lukewarm mashed potatoes that were clearly powdered (with canned gravy). More grease, less on-point excellent flavor, even in its dominant seafood presentations. I now go for a drink occasionally, and just eat from the bar menu. Still quiet, but convivial bar for grownups. But the kitchen's standards have dropped considerably. Pros: Bar, Service, ambience Cons: Parking can be difficult when crowded, but worth it. Never a wait inside. more
