Whereas I find spats' sides to be very flavorful and delicious, their sides are not as great as their entrees. They are, however, prepared with much care. They also seem to have better soups over their salads if you decide to eat at spats' cafe. Also, I have never eaten fresh-baked bread better than this around the state college area. more

Delicious Dinners in a Spirited Atmosphere 8/26/2005

Spats is a neat treat in the heart of downtown State College, PA. Definitely a step above the typical undergrad crowd, you will enjoy a well prepared meal of cajun cuisine. It's hard to go wrong when picking an entree (though my husband is particularly found of the Cajun pasta...which sounds bland but is DELICIOUS). They have an extensive wine list and are knowledgable in pairing wine with food. They also serve sorbet between courses -- these little extras add to the overall experience. Downstairs you can get some of the same food, but not the atmosphere. This is definitely a place to take the parents when they are in town for a visit. more

Spat's has an amazing and unique menu. In addition to Cajun and Creole flavored beef, chicken, and pork dishes, you can get gumbo, jambalaya, and even alligator! They have a tapas menu including both hot and cold tapas. I love the dessert menu. There's an extensive wine menu as well. The bruschetta on the hot tapas menu is one of my favorites, and their sangria is delicious! The atmosphere if fun, and it's alway great to get a corner table near the windows to people watch . A great way to enjoy this restaurant without spending a lot of cash is to go for lunch. The menu items are similar, and by foregoing the salad and bread, you save about $10 per entrée. more
