Spa At The Waterway

My experience was average at best. The massage therapist didn't have a real technique - hard and fast seemed to be the MO. It was only a half hour massage, but I don't think I could have taken a full hour with her. Definitely not worth the money. The mani/pedi was also just average. The technician was very nice and gentle, but seemed kind of rushed. And my nail polish has bubbles in that are probably going to chip in the next day or two. I won't be going back. There are lots better spas in town. more

I had a facial, highlights and a cut. My skin feels and looks 10 times better than before I went. I was not asked to buy a thing, however I did at the end. Best color I've had in years. I will go back for sure! Pros: Great Skin Care Line, Free Valet Parking, Relaxing Cons: Can't Think Of Any more

I received a gift card from my boss, who told me that there is an Urban Retreat in The Woodlands (closer to where I live). I called the San Felipe location (their phone number was on the gift certificate) and told them I have a gift certificate. I told them that I had been told there was a UR in The Woodlands and asked if that was true, because that location wasn't listed on this gift certificate. They confirmed that there is an UR in The Woodlands and gave me their phone number. I called and was confused when they answered the phone with a different name. I asked, "Is this Urban Retreat?" and she said yes. I told her I had a gift certificate and made the appointment for my gift package. When I arrived at The Marriott, I asked the concierge for the Urban Retreat, and he directed me to the spa. I offered my gift certificate when I arrived and was told to hold it until I am ready to leave. After my massage, I was told to return to the locker room to dress before my mani/pedi. I was the only one in the locker room when I changed into my street clothes and when I tried to open the door to exit the room, it wouldn't open. I was trapped. I had to phone them to get rescued. When I went to the front desk to pay, I was told that they were NOT the same as the UR in Houston and they would not honor the gift certificate. I challenged them about the name of the biz and was told "That's why we changed our name," yet they still go by UR. I had to pay $200 out of pocket and they didn't offer anything for being trapped. After calls back and forth, the manager of The Woodlands spa said she had discussed the matter with the Houston spa and they agreed to credit back the gift certificate to my boss. She told me to send an email to the manager at the Houston spa (she provided the email, too), which I did. The manager refuses to respond to emails or to my repeated phone calls. I DISCOURAGE EVERYONE from using either of these locations because of the way I was treated. Pros: Dim-light and quiet surroundings Cons: I got trapped in their locker room when the door broke. more

I have visited many spas and salons in the area and I must say this is one on the best I have ever been to. The Houston area has been in need of a spa/salon like this one for many years. Bravo Urban Retreat of the Woodlands!!!! Bravo!!!!!!!!! The place is absolutley beautiful! And it is HUGE! I had one on the best massages I have ever had and I was so impressed with how knowledgeable the entire staff was. They were so attentive!!! I will certainly be going back. Pros: Beautiful Place, Knowledgable Staff, Great Customer Service, Open Sundays Cons: None more

What an Awesome Experience! From the time I walked in Urban Retreat, I felt so welcomed and comfortable. The entire staff was so friendly and the massage therapist I had was unbelievable. I was so impressed with how professional everyone was and how Great the customer service experience was. I will definitely be bringing my entire family back for a full day of therapy and relaxation. The PROS: Lovely hotel, nice & calming rooms w/ good ambiance, facialist was good. The CONS: The facial aethetician was very good & the experience lovely right up until the moment she began the hard sell for all the products I "must have" ... which added up to more than $400! She even carried them to the checkout desk w/ instructions that I wanted to buy them!! Massage therapist equated "deep tissue massage" with "rub hard and fast". Didn't seen especially knowledgeable re. pressure points that release the knots. Waiting room uncomfortable; upright chairs w/ no footrests or interesting reading mtl. Pros: nice & calming rooms, good abiance in rooms, comfortable rooms Cons: hard sell!!, waiting rm uncomfort. more
