My Life At Sovereign 5/7/2014

I was on the streets and doing drugs and I wanted to get my life back and my parents who are both recovering addicts said I needed to go to a recovery center again so they found Sovereign Health.\r \r My expectations weren’t very high because I was like, okay, this is just another rehab, so at first I was just going through the motions but then I started to get it. It pulls so much out of you about who you are and why you do the things you do, but in a good way. \r \r I started drinking at the age of 10 and started using pot and cocaine at 11. What I needed was dual diagnosis treatment, and Sovereign Health has helped me learn new ways of thinking and dealing with my anger, addiction and bipolar issues. more

I was in dire need of detox and a dual diagnosis program. My parents flew me down to Sovereign Health. I have been here for 75 days and I have gotten all the help that I could possibly ask for. I found out while I was here that I have not only a drug addiction but I have mental health issues like Bipolar Disorder and Depression. I am getting a lot of help here.\r \r I had a traumatic event that happened when I was 14, so I started using alcohol. Then it led to other drugs. It got to the point where I pushed away my family and pushed away everyone I love. I was living on streets when I called my mom and was desperate to go to rehab to get my life back.\r \r I really didn’t think this was just going to work when I first came here. I was really resistant but after about a week or two I opened up my mind to it. I am completely different person now from when I first came in here.\r \r Once I realized I am drug addict and I need help, I started going to the group and actually listening and more

I am completely different person now from when I first came in here.\r Once I realized I am drug addict and I need help, I started going to the group and actually listening and not walking out. I started getting the help I needed from talking to my therapist. My favorite group is trauma group because it is all women and we all talk about our traumas. We just get it all out there, we get feedback from the women in the group, and it is really helpful. \r \r The individual sessions are one on one and they are a little more intimate. I ask for homework but I get the opportunity to say “I don’t want homework, I just want to talk.” So I get homework for my traumas, and coping skills and then I get to work through them with my therapist and that is just between me and her.\r It is an amazing experience and I wish I could stay longer. I am so blessed and so grateful that I got the opportunity to come here. It is a wonderful place.\r \r They have structured dual diagnosis program, but we can give feedback on what we don’t like or what we do like, and then they change it around. We get the opportunity to tell them, “You know, this isn’t working for me.” They always are open-minded, and they want the best for us.\r For newcomers, give it a chance. It is going to be tough. A lot of people are resistant. I wanted to go home. Give it a week or two and you realize this is where you need to be. You know, just give it a chance. more

My Review about Sovereign 3/18/2013

I heard about Sovereign Health I did a basic search on Google and I found a place called [Tar] and then they checked my insurance to see what facilities in Southern California were available and then they referred me here. I also looked on the website and the website was also very welcoming. It would just make me feel like okay this is some place that I wanted to be. It let you know everything you need to know even when I will call here ask questions everybody is very polite and friendly and would answer my questions thoroughly. I went straight into the apartments upon coming here and it was just a warm welcome when I first got here. The staffs were very welcoming as well as just the clients. I could tell that the clients were happy so that immediately made me comfortable. The groups have been very, very good to me. The relapse prevention group is amazing because that is always one of my major concerns and I have relapsed before and so that was concern for me on how to maintain n more

I just want to thank you guys. You guys have really helped me and guided me into the next step of my life. You know you just don’t throw people out and you know out into the world and they had no idea and if they feel like it is a waste of time I know for me I put in a lot of work here and you guys gave a lot of work and a lot of information and provided a lot of coping skills for me and I will never forget this place. You know I would love to come back one day on a Sunday when we have our morning family groups and talk and tell my story about where I came from and how Sovereign really helped me. So I just want to say thank you to everybody here. more

if you have a loved one going in here make sure not to allow them to the cordoba house.. co-ed and managers don't pay attention to the clients.. so if you want your loved one to be in a relationship with someone with the same issue or worse as them then go for it.. managers let previous patients in.. they give away last names of patients to other patients.. managers don't pay attention to the patients.. they need to review how this house is being run... more

I heard about the program from one of the employees that used to work here. He actually recommended it to me and checked my insurance and said that I would be able to come here and that it was a really good program and certainly high level and I also checked the website before I came here too so in between like a person, staff member and website like it was my decision making process. I have been to a few programs and I really like this program mostly because all the staff here I really like the staff. The staff really cares about all the clients. These people know what they are doing and they are here to help me they are not here to hurt me in any way and you know whatever I trust them and I take direction, everything has gone perfectly and I have been – I have never been more content, sober in my whole life and just to like trust the process and once you start doing that everything just falls into place. more

Sovcal Treatment Program Review 12/3/2012

When I first come to Sovereign I had a lot of behavioral problems and I acted out emotionally and through going to the groups and meeting with my therapist and the counseling that was provided here. I can safely say that today some of those behavioral issues have gotten under control. I really have enjoyed the symptom management group and that has helped me to identify my symptoms and to be able to deescalate, disengage, be mindful and awareness of certain situations. I have also enjoyed the stages of change group because it helps prepare you for you know various changes that life may bring to you. My least favorite group is probably Brain Wellness just because it is a PowerPoint and it is kind of boring but other than you know all of the counselors and therapists and the people that run the group do an amazing, wonderful job and I have learned a lot through you know different trials and being able to put into practice the things I have learned in group with my peers. The houses are very beautiful, very comfortable, very home-like setting. It is you know there are various occasions I have been in two of the houses including and the apartments, the Calle Real House it was a wonderful setting and there was a deck that looked over the ocean and you know the house managers were great. My peers were wonderful. I mean when you get a group of girls together in a house you know there can be a couple of tips here and there but you learn how to just disengage and you know focus on yourself. I also was in the Cordoba House for my mental health and that house was wonderful it had a beautiful view. It was just amazing a beautiful home. We had the opportunity to cook and I got to bake and you do all these wonderful things and as I progressed in my treatment and showed progress I was able to move to what they call the apartments which is you know it is more of a little step down we have a little bit of more freedom and you know we get to go to Walmart or different places as needed and it is not so structured as far as having to stay in the house all the time and I really taken a liking to that and I enjoy being there. more

Treatment Program at Sovcal 11/26/2012

I didn?t want to sit home in the sofa and gain more weight and die. I started out at 439 pounds and I am now down to 412 in a short time and this is the reason I want to be here and I want to work the program. So this program has really helped me. I have so much respect for all the staff here, it seems like a team of people who are just trying to help you, if you really want the help, the help has to start with you, if you have a bad attitude and you don?t really want this you are going to have a whole sort of people, you are not going to get anything out of it but if you really, really want to help yourself then they are there to help you and you can achieve a lot. My tip of successful recovery would be to stay focus, don?t try to get caught up in any drama or somebody else?s disorder, just be here for you and have a speedy recovery more

I was seeking professional help in here to do things, everything which I need to do to get your life on check and we go to the gym every morning which I would look forward to we have the best food I mean I am doing better here than I have at home. We have great food and just the house managers and they are great and I feel great. Today I can say I am going to go back a whole different person. Feeling like this is all I need you know never say never but I don’t plan to come to another rehab not that this was bad but for me I just need a jump start in my life. I feel really good I feel great. more

Sovereign Health Inpatient Program 11/1/2012

I found out about Sovereign through quite a few referrals from my psychiatrist and then as he has kind of start asking more about the program a lot of people said the same thing as him that it would be a really good program for me to go to. My stay here has been absolutely amazing. I have struggled with an Eating Disorder for about 10 years now and I have been a chronic relapse and this program is so different than any other program I have ever been to. The thing that I think really make such a difference here is that you know it is really up to you all your actions and your attitude. This program is ? it is a partial program and so it is really on you whether you want to comply how much you want to challenge yourself or not challenge yourself. The staff they do a great job with supporting you and really they are honest with you in what they see, what they don?t see and they tell you straight up. I am lucky to be alive and sitting here right now but you know not only am I in good more

I heard about Sovereign Treatment Center through my EAP, the Employee Assistant Program where I work and basically what had happened I had had several conversations with my boss about my weight issue and she kind of gave me the green light to go ahead and do whatever I needed to do to get healthy. I remember the first few days the morning meditation I will say – I just really want to go home right now I don’t think this is a good fit for me but by day seven I think it was about a week after I was like oh my God I hope I get to stay here for the next three years or so because I was learning so much very, very quickly.I got a lot of support from my housemates and I have made some friends here who I am sure I will be friends with forever, I got a lot with living with people who reminded of people on the outside and drove me crazy but I was in a safe place. more

It was my first treatment program that I have been to. I struggled with addiction for a really long time and I was pretty broken down, beaten up before I got in here. So I was kind of just kind of ready to embrace whatever I was offered here it was really a good opportunity for me and I definitely needed it so I wasn’t sure what to expect but when I got here the staff and you know all the employees and everybody was very welcoming and made me feel at home and comfortable here. Yeah I mean it was a good experience overall. Couldn’t really ask for more I definitely got everything I needed and I feel a million times better than I did a couple of months ago and yeah I am happy to get this opportunity. \r more

Sovereign Health Treatment Program 10/15/2012

Well I was desperately in need of help and I had gone to a couple of other treatment centers where I live back home which were really not good fix for me and actually the way I heard about Sovereign Health of California. Amtrak knew about Sovereign Health and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I was in desperate need of help and I never felt better in my life. Sovereign has given me the tools to support, the instruction, the care everything to address, understand, accept my disease and if I go out and relapse this time I have no one to blame but myself. Everybody has been wonderful; I have not met an unpleasant or unprofessional or an uncaring person. more
