Dr. Scurria has been our family doctor since the early 90's. In all that time she has had many PA's, some better than others. Dr. Scurria has always been worth waiting for to see....

Scurria is holding my prescriptions hostage for $1000 5/2/2012

After using Scurria as my primary care physician for 15 years she is jeopardizing my life because she wants me to give her $1000 bucks. I had my final exam before she transitioned to the new ""concierge"" doctor format. With that annual physical came my usual prescription refills in December. Then I changed Jobs and got new health care coverage with it. The new Pharmacy Benefits Provider (Express Scripts)required copies of the prescriptions, that would not accept a transfer of those prescriptions. Scurria refused to print off copies for me unless I gave her the 1000 bucks. When I told Express Scripts they were ""appalled"" at her behavior and called it unethical. They called her directly and she refused them as well. Now I'm out of medications for chronic serious conditions, thank you Dr. Scurria. How do you sleep at night? Is the 1000 bucks really all that important? I guess the good news is, if I die while all this is going on my heirs will have a juicy cause of action against this horrible doctor. more

Best Doctor, Very Knowledgeable 2/14/2012

Dr. Scurria has been our family doctor since the early 90's. In all that time she has had many PA's, some better than others. Dr. Scurria has always been worth waiting for to see. We have presented many unusual symptoms over the years and she has always found the correct diagnosis and given the correct treatment. When I found a lump, she was kind and reassuring. I have never found fault in her as a doctor. I would wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Scurria to anyone who cares about their health and wants a GOOD doctor with well-rounded knowledge. more

Pi** Poor Staff and Turn-Around Time 9/29/2009

I have been on the phone with these people for nearly two weeks for two different things. first, was a referral which cost me two days of missed work. The second issue is calling in a prescription that takes an act of congress to get finished. First I am told one thing, then I call the pharmacist and am told another. It is ridciulous. I am changing PCP's. I am sick of this offic and their very unfriendly staff and very incompentent staff. more

fantastic staff 5/28/2009

A fantastic staff...including reception, lab, pa's and np's. Jennifer Burbridge, nurse practitioner, has the most wonderful ""bedside manner""...cheerfully answers all questions and finds out those that she can't answer. My lab results were reported to me quicker than with any other doctor I've ever seen...a very BIG plus. Gaby is always helpful, cheerful, and professional and it's great to have her answer the phone!!!! Pros: very little waiting time, lab results timely Cons: none more

Still waiting on referral 12/7/2008

I saw Dr Jennifer Preston in Dr Scurria's office. Very nice and detail oriented.\r I'm still waiting on my referal, its been over 2 weeks. I'm not sure if its the insurance or \r doctors office, but either way... I'm still waiting. Pros: Detailed and quick Cons: little wait but not bad. Long wait on referrals more

Best Place to Get Care 6/11/2008

Yes, I am glad Dr Scurria gets gifts from Pharm reps. Dr Scurria has a room full of samples for patients who can't afford meds. This is great and should be praised. I am very greatful for the care that this group is providing me. I have been to many places, and believe me, I have. From California, all the way to Buffalo, NY. There is none more compassionate than Dr Scurria. And yes, she does take the time to ask you questions, and listen to what you have to say, which is what every doctor should be doing. Well, if you think you deserve to be heard and you are given time to ask question, and to explain your problems, then the next person will have to wait until you're done. That means you have to wait until the person before you gets done.\r I won't go anywhere else. Pros: Compassion, great care, and humanly approach Cons: If you need good care, you need to wait more

Finally giving up on this doctor 2/11/2008

I've been going to this doctor several years. Long waits are still an issue but agree they have improved somewhat. They are very proud of their tech improvements as if that is what it takes to make patients happier. \r \r The courtesy of staff and overall customer service is lacking. I frequently feel like I am an inconvenience and they resent my presence. Or it?s like they hate their jobs. Pharmaceutical reps (as stated by another reviewer) are ever present in the waiting room, coming and going. Dr Scurria must really love her Pharm visitors and the gifts they bring. \r \r The Phys Asst Paul is nice, knowledgeable, caring, and courteous - him I like. Phys Asst Jennifer should just go away. She is condescending; not a good listener; too quick to judge and dismiss. If you can manage to get in to see Dr Scurria, you'll probably like her (If you can wait that long).\r \r This doctor?s office seems to be hit-or-miss. Some will love her; and others not so much. If you do go to her office it probably will NOT be the worst experience ever but will leave you thinking ?this place could be better?. I, frankly, am tired of it. I know there are better options out there. This is Houston, after all. It?s definitely time for this patient to move on!\r \r Btw, I think some of the other Perfect reviews are ?plants?. What patient comments on the virtues of a doctor?s superb electronic medical records? Give me a break. Sounds like ad copy for an infomercial. Pros: Location. Years of Experience. Some long-time loyal patients. Cons: Long waits. Staff regrets their career choice. Or maybe it's just you they don't like. more

Go somewhere else 2/5/2008

If you don't care about having a doctor pay attention to you, go see her. No follow up, terrible waits, changing stories, horrible staff, etc. She is all about making money and not giving a darn about anyone. \r \r DO NOT GO TO Dr. Scurria if you value your health and/or well being. She is a horrible doctor and person! There are sooo many other doctors in the area that will actually care for you. Anyone deserves better. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Fantastic service, caring and involved staff and treatment 11/14/2007

I found Dr. Scurria through a friend and I LOVE this woman, her PAs and her office. They are the most thoughtful, considerate and involved team I have had the pleasure of finding since being here in Houston. True, as one review stated, back in 2005/06, they had some difficulty with their office and staff, service, etc. but the reason was how much they had grown but did not have the infrastructure to manage the growth. They changed their phone system and how they did business and I have experienced tremendous improvements in their timeliness, ability to make appointments, etc. They even work me in if I'm sick and I need help immediately. One time, one of my family members was here and she got sick and they worked her in too! Other docs would not see her. They are wonderful people and I'm very pleased to be a patient of Dr. Scurria's. If they moved to Spring, I'd drive to see her!!! Pros: Quality of Care; Location is central (Near Herman Park/Mus of Nat'l Sci) Cons: Office Decor could use improvement but overall the office is okay more

Up to date care with old-fashioned service 12/8/2006

Dr. Scurria gives her patients lots of attention AND up to date care. People drive from all over town and have followed her for years because she's knowledgeable and caring. I've seen her go to bat for patients as their advocate, which is obviously not reimbursable behavior. Customer service is improving. The two PA's Paul & Ayse are popular with patients as well. Dr. Scurria is an excellent choice for someone seeking a long-term primary care provider instead of a doc in a box, a location convenient to those working downtown or in the med center (it's right on the rail), or someone with multiple problems who needs a sharp primary care doc to stay on top of things. Pros: Quality, Caring, Location Cons: Typical doc office wait times - they're working on it more

Some of the worst office staff and worst customer service in the business 11/29/2006

I have been a patient of Dr. Scurria's for 10 years. She is a really nice person and a good physician but her staff are some of the worst in the world. No customer service skills. Frequent wrong billings resulting in hours of time trying to get things straightened up. Not calling in refills in time. It is a long list...none of which really involve the Dr. herself BUT it is just not worth the complete hassle...there are too many other choices. I have decided to find another physician. more

loooong waits 10/5/2006

Every time I have seen Dr. Scurria (6 times over 3 years) I have had extremely long waits (often more than one hour). What really bothers me about the waiting, however, is that often there are at least 3 pharmaceutical reps waiting to see her, too. This strikes me as disrespectful of my time and unethical. Maybe if she spent less time seeing sales reps every day she would have more time to attend to sick patients. more

Once again, I am truly happy with this Doctor and her Staff! 8/3/2006

It's very seldom that you find a doctor's office that is as caring and considerate as Dr. Scurria's office. I always ask for Paul Legros, P.A., and he is absolutely wonderful. I find him to be very trustworthy and professional and he is so knowledgeable and caring towards me and my husband. My husband and I are very pleased with Dr. Scurria's office. We are able to schedule appointments easily and their electronic medical records are superb. I recommended everyone I know looking for a reliable PCP to Dr. Scurria's office. Schedule one appointment and you will see why! \r \r Thanks to Paul, Dr. Scurria, and her wonderful staff! My hats off to each of you. Pros: They have a comfortable waiting room, friendly staff, extraordinary patient care. Cons: There has been a huge change in staff, and its hard to see Dr. Scurria herself. more

Worlds best doctor 7/28/2006

When I go to Dr. Scurria's office I always as for Paul, her PA. Paul is brilliant, wonderfully caring, easy to talk to, and highly effective as a physician. I've been using Dr. Scurria for many years and I think bringing Paul in to help with her ever expanding patient volume is the best decision she's ever made!! Love you Dr. Scurria....thanks for Paul! more

The best doc I've ever had! 3/29/2005

She's taken care of my daughter since she was a baby, and is my doc as well. She's excellent. If you have to see one of the PAs instead of the doctor, I'd recommend that you choose any of the PAs except Stella. Stella is horrifically stingy when she treats patients. Otherwise, the whole office is great. more
