Best Sushi EVER and Allie the waitress is awesome! 1/27/2011

The sushi here is excellent. The Tiffany roll is my favorite but everything I have tried here has been nothing short of fantastic! We go there at least once a week if we can. There is never a question when we ask the kids where they would like to go for dinner. The guy's making the sushi have a great sense of humor and as I said Allie is awesome! She is very friendly and will give you very good suggestions if you give her some hints on what you would like to try. As I said run don't walk! to this jewel of Madison next to the Pepboy's on Gallatin Rd heading to Rivergate. more

Forget all the rest!!!! more

The Best Jananese Food I've Ever Tasted!!! 9/17/2010

What a great Japanese restaurant in Nashville! Sapporo provides a lot of different choices of such tasteful Japanese foods. I and my wife go there regularly. Even my children in college never miss to go to Sapporo whenever they come to us. Food is always fresh and delicious (especially sushi is just fantastic in its taste). I strongly recommend you to try Sapporo. You will never regret your decision. My another strong recommendastion is, Bi Bim Bab, a Korean steamed rice bowl with a lot of different mixed vegetables and marinated beef with special sauce in it. This menu has been globalized for the past couple of years with excellent reputation by the people. Currently many New Yorkers who tried it praise its taste. Why not us? I very enjoy Sapporo always and recommend. more

Huge sushi rolls, great kimchi, but... 8/7/2009

Their sushi rolls are huge and tasty but falls apart as soon as you touch them with your chopsticks. The korean dishes are really good, the kimchi is excellent, but as far as the other Japanese dishes are concerned, I wouldn't even dare call them Japanese. I wanted to have some homestyle Japanese food and ordered Katsudon, and it was just a huge disappointment for me. I should've just made it myself. Pros: Rolls are huge, great kimchi Cons: The other dishes can't be called Japanese more

So Slooooooooooooooooow 3/10/2009

Don't you hate it when you walk in and somebody says, ""sit wherever you like"" and you do... and are then promptly forgotten about and when recognized (5 minutes later) as having no server are given ONE menu for two people? Yeah, that was experience once. The previous visit I didn't have that trouble but our food took an inordinate amount of time to arrive when the place wasn't near capacity. I must say the sushi tastes cheap and the sauces squirted on top of the pieces need to go. The staff is very friendly and the inside is quite charming. An unfortunate situation indeed. Pros: friendliness Cons: service more

Great Sushi and Friendly Staff! 12/28/2008

Approximately 6 weeks ago, I started eating Sushi. I may not have an experienced Sushi palate, but I know good food when I eat it. It has become an absolute addiction for me and I frequent Sapparo no less than 3 times per week (somtimes 6 times a week). I think that the lunch prices can not be beat ....2 sushi rolls, soup, and salad for less than 7 bucks! The Chef is always nice and gives good service. In my 25 recent visits, I have never had a bad experience..... and those are pretty good odds! Pros: great food and service. more

Awfull 7/21/2008

This place was awfull. first price is so high and srvice is awfull. sushi was so sticky like a paste and falls off when you pick it up. its not japanese food their cattering its Korean Pros: nothing Cons: food awfull, service awfull, sushi awfull, ambience awfull, korean food not japanese more

Good Japanese Food! 8/11/2007

I went here the other day when my mom was visiting from Seattle. It was amazingly good. Suprised her who is from a coastal state how fresh the sushi was. We had the California roll and the spicy tuna roll, both which were amazingly prepared and tasted excellent! The salad along with the dressing was wonderful and light. It had a sweet gingery and orangy taste which just felt so cool and refreshing on a day that was reading 104 degrees outside. The miso soup was also done in a very traditional manner. good flavor and portion. The entrees are absolutely impeccable in their taste and presentation. Wonderful place overall. I would reccomend this to anyone looking for good Japanese food. Pros: sushi, food, respectful service Cons: about 15-20 mins from downtown more

Not what it used to be.... 7/19/2007

I dont know where the previous reviewer dined, but it wasnt where I ate last night! I LOVED this restaurant a few years ago, in fact, the ginger salad dressing was all I could eat when I was pregnant!! I went back last night and have been sick ever since. The food was mediocre, its under new ownership I think. Dont waste your money. I am so sick today. Plus, in July, their air didnt work, we sweated. Wish we would have left!!!!!! Pros: I liked the restaurant itself, waitress really nice, the air was broken! Cons: The horrible stomach ache I had (and still have morning after) eating there! more

My Favorite Restaurant! 6/6/2007

I've been eating there for a few years now and every experience I have there is wonderful. The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is very friendly and service is great. Prices are very cheap considering the quality of food and atmosphere. Pros: Parking, atmosphere, friendly staff, food, sushi, price more

awfullllllllll 3/11/2006

service was extremely awful food was not fresh and expensive too Cons: warm fish, dirty restrooms, sushi chef boring more

Ok... 9/8/2005

The fish was excellent, but the sushi rice wasn't quite sticky enough. It takes a lot of skill to get sushi rice sticky enough, but not too sticky...the chef lacked this very important skill. It wasn't a problem for the rolls, but the nigiri was another story... Pros: Service, Freshness, Cozy Cons: Inexperienced, Sushi, Chefs more

location was excellent but food is wierd 7/3/2005

the location is excellent but the food was so different than before, they have a chef named Nelson before that has a excellent food and good personality but I think he left already that why food changed. Pros: good parking Cons: different food than b more

Pros: parking, filling water Cons: slow service, average food, fish not fresh more

...a long way from town BUT 11/6/2004

We just came back from another Sunday night treat at Sapporo. The food is A+, the best sushi in Nashville (and its suburbs), extensive menu, hot and cold appetisers, ..try crab iso age and the boiled baby octopus, the sashimi and sushi are grade 1, and a nice selection of filtered and unfiltered sake. Its a bit of a drive from town..bu well worth the effort if you know and appreciate the difference between average and good sushi. Staff are friendly, ambience is OK. I wish sapporo II would open up in Mt Juliet (hint hint) Pros: Grade I sushi, Friendly, Good Value Cons: , Far from Home more

INCREDIBLE 6/14/2003

I had never had Japanese cuisine before coming here. It was delicious. You have a server and you have a chef. The server is pretty much ""Refill Man"". For those of you not in the know, the word ""sushi"" means ""Appetizer"". It isn't about raw fish. ""Sashimi"" (might have misspelled that) is the raw fish. I got the Nashville roll and it was just incredible. The chef was incredibly knowledgable and very kind. The service was great! The food was incredible, we shared a combination plate and came home full. They give you soup & salad then you get your veggies and meat and you get sherbert for dessert and it's all included in the price, although you can opt to eat some sushi (appetizer, remember?) as well. I had a great time, and so will you. I never felt like a jackbutt from not knowing anything about it. Pros: Fun, Fast, Great!!! Cons: A little bit pricey more

Now I'm a sushi lover! 3/19/2003

The nagiri sushi (w/o the seaweed) was so deliscious, I couldn't stop eating it!!! The Maguro (Tuna), and Ebi (shrimp) were my favorites. I have been every week now for 4 weeks! I'm addicted! You get 2 pieces for $3.50 to $3.75, so it adds up. Don't go if you're in a hurry or at least don't sit at a table, service is extremely slow. Sitting at the sushi bar has been great. Ended up getting a free appetizer that we later learned was octopus! (Not bad.) And other nice samples for free. GREAT PLACE FOR SUSHI!!!! Their teriyaki dishes are good also. Pros: Sushi choices, Sushi chef's humor, Always a seat avail. Cons: Slow service, Addicting!! more

Clean, fresh, and vibrant 12/22/2002

I have been living in the Nashville area and eating sushi all of my life, but I did not discover Sapporo until less than a year ago. Since then, I've been very pleased. The sushi prices are a bit higher than most of the other downtown bars, but the quality of fish and service of the chefs are unmatched. I fully recommend sitting at the bar, however, as the servers spend too much time sit around and just chat among themselves. The chefs, however, are always friendly and gracious. The head chef remembered me after just one visit! As far as price goes, expect to pay about $15 per person if you order nigiri and maki and have an average appetite. For entrees and sashimi, expect $10 to $20. Pros: Impeccably fresh fish, great chefs, pleasant ambience Cons: Inattentive servers, slighty pricey more

Absolutely Fabulous 10/12/2002

I am NOT a fan of sushi, but this place has changed my mind. I LOVE the spicy tuna rolls. They are extremelly flavorful and fresh. The service has always been wonderful. Since I have discovered this place, I would say that I eat there at least once a week. The price is good and the atmosphere is pleasant. Remember to ask for some hot tea. It is great and free!! Pros: Service, Tasty Food more
