Sam and Ethel’s is as stereotypical as you can get when it comes to small-town dining. The red vinyl booths and the window to the kitchen set the stage for your down-home meal. It looks like little has changed in the past few decades, but everything appears to be clean. Their specialty is definitely breakfast, and there seems to be a regular crowd. Hotcakes are their most popular item, and they make them large! Don’t order a stack of hotcakes at this restaurant; a single hotcake covers the entire plate—and sometimes drapes over the sides. This operation seems to be run by a small group of workers, and nothing seems to be cooked until ordered. Therefore, do not come here if you are in any type of a hurry. You just might be there almost two hours. While it might not be worth the wait all the time and a lot of the locals seem to be frequenting the fairly new Bob Evans’ more, Sam and Ethel’s has been a Tipp City institution for decades and deserves at least one visit from you for nostalgia’s sake—when you’re not in a hurry.
