Guilded Sushi Place 8/24/2010

I love sushi and usallly I we are always searching a good sushi place in boston. Though this resturant seemed like a good enough place until I did a little inspection. Many of the food handlers do not keep up on there santaizing standards. I have seen them handle food with there hands, plus some of the chief’s nails were long and dirty. \r \r I usually order salmon with rice as it is my staple dishes for when I eat japanese. When this dish was delievered to my table it was clear to me that it was recycled. A common practice in many asian resturants and easliy detectable because old rice tastes sour. My husban’s sushi ginger had inconsistancies. Which leaves me to believe that some days they try to push old materials on meals, expecally on the lunch menu. While certin days it was spice like it supposed to be others this wasn’t the case. Of course I could only begin to wounder how much MSG they use.\r \r The service there is medioker. It seems like all the girls who work there don’t seem to care. Although polite, I had to ask several times to make sure my childern’s meals be prepaired in a specific way. Though It was ignored. Then of course we have been kept waiting on more then one occusaion soda refills. Prehaps the establishment is taking there tips which is another common practice in asian resturants. \r \r I am sure that my family and I will not consider Sake for our sushi needs in the future. Will have to continue searching to find one that suits us. \r more

Sake Makes My Senses Reel - Great for Vegans...No, Really - I mean It! 6/19/2008

This is the best Sushi restaurant in the Boston area, by far! The waitresses are polite, friendly (if not always efficient). If you go, block off some time, bring friends, and commit to enjoying the experience (which starts off, I might add, like an evening at a spa -- with each diner receiving a steaming hot towel - or oshibori - I don't recall their ever being cool in the summer...as is the custom). If you're in a hurry, you're going to be both disappointed and frustrated. The food is great and their menu is varied. I have to disagree with the vegetarian who commented earlier; I'm vegan, go almost weekly, and still haven't had everything they have available that meets my dietary restrictions. They even have Shabu-Shabu available if you're bored with sushi (which I can't imagine). They have the freshest sushi...avacado roll, Idaho roll, cucumber roll, tempura, ginger salad, seaweed salad, miso soup...the list goes on, but these are just a few of my favorites. Their drinks are reasonably priced and are well-made, but you'll never be given a hard-sell; this place is about the food and the ambience.\r \r Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. Maybe you'll see me and my crew on Sushi Thursdays (7:30 pm - whenever)! Pros: Great Food, Comfortable Atmosphere, Welcome and Friendly Staff, Great Drinks and Food... Cons: Service May Seem Slow...Dishes/Courses Might Be Delivered Erratically - Worth the Wait and the Interesting Arrival Sequence, imho more

Good sushi 9/10/2007

I've been here twice now, and had good experiences both times. I always get sushi, which is really good here. Very fresh. My husband doesn't eat sushi, so he has gotten other dishes and always been pleased as well. It does look a little seedy from the outside, but if you can get over its location (settled right in between some route 1 trailer parks) you shoud go. \r It can get a little pricey, it was $142 for four of us, and only two of us ate sushi. They charged us $12.95 for a side of vegetable fried rice. Other than that, I would recommend it. Pros: fresh sushi, traditional japanese seating is available Cons: location more

Good Food, But Bad Waitresses 7/21/2007

I have been to Sake 2 times (about 1 year apart), the first experience was great, the Japanese waitress dressed in their traditional Kimono provided great service, and the food was great! Coming from Los Angeles (with great restaurants all over the area), I had a hard time finding a really good Japanese restaurant in the Boston area, I thought Sake could really live up to the L.A. standards. But when I visited it the 2nd time, they had Chinese waitresses dressed in the Japanese outfit, and they were yelling at each other right in front of the customers. I liked the restaurant for its traditional Japanese atmosphere, but the public rudeness has completely ruined the mood, perhaps because of that, the food didn't taste as good as my first experience either. I might give Sake 1 more try, but if the service level keeps going down, this restaurant will be off my dining out list for good. Pros: food & decoration Cons: service more

Great sushi north of Boston 4/15/2007

I've been there twice now, and both times, Sake has had excellent sushi. Not just ""excellent sushi for the north shore"", but excellent in general. It holds its own compared to great sushi places in Boston, New York, LA, San Francisco, and Hawaii. The atmosphere is also very nice and the service is excellent.\r \r I like my spicy tuna rolls ""inside out"" (with the rice on the outside), which is exactly how they make them. And when I asked for cucumber instead of avocado in mine, it was no problem.\r \r I'd definitely recommend Sake to anyone searching for good sushi north of Boston. Pros: Great sushi, excellent service, nice atmosphere Cons: Hard to find any... maybe not the best location in the world. more

DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE W/ FOOD ALERGIES! 1/1/2007

I've gone to Sake for years but have not ordered more than sushi. This time I dared to order a meal. Despite warning them of my alergy of shrimp, it still ended up in my dish. I've spent this weekend recovering from their error. If you have a food alergy, take great care! Cons: Dangerous for people w/ food alergies - take care! more

no good for vegetarians 4/15/2006

Though my husband had a good non-vegetarian meal, it was difficult for me to enjoy my food. Other Japanese restaurants have offered excellent tofu plates or vegetarian sushis. Limited options for veggies here. And despite my request to not have anything with fish, chicken or beef products there was either considerable cross contamination or actual animal products in the meal due to the level of ""distress"" I experienced shortly after eating here. Vegetarians should avoid at all costs. Cons: bad for vegetarians more

don't bother going to Boston for great sushi 1/17/2006

I've been to many sushi restaurants in Boston, but this one is by far my favorite. The atmosphere is excellent, and the waitresses wear kimonos, giving it an authentic feel. We are always seated right away, and immediately get a warm damp cloth to clean our hands (another good authentic aspect). The waitresses are friendly and attentive, and the sushi is fantastic- the sashimi melts in your mouth!! And for such high quality, the prices are right. Also, excellent miso soup! Pros: atmosphere, service, value more

Fantastic! don't listen to the doubters 7/19/2004

I love this place, I go all the time. I've been to about 60 Sushi resteraunts, in the area and in other cities including San Fransisco, Ney York and LA. This is one of my top rated places. Very nice setting with traditional and western seating areas. Service was outstanding, eating with groups (even large ones) is welcome and very well accomidated. Sushi and Appitizers are very high quality. I have only heard of pne person having a problem while I was there. a couple showed up while the resteraunt was very very busy. started whining when they had to wait 15 minutes for a table. then continued crying and finally leaving after fifteen minutes when their order haddn't arrived. The order showed up as they were putting on their coats. Pros: Great Food, Atmosphere, service more

Worst Service and Below Average Sushi 7/15/2004
