sad saffron closed... 1/17/2009

I was sad to see Saffron closed, but also sad to see the review written by lucky mom 5... I personally spoke with Judy Lyon in regards to the reason for the sudden closing of Saffron. I too had a gift card... The fact was it was not sudden, she had been in a battle with her landlord since 2007, when she discovered she was being charged for twice the space Saffron actually occupied.. Bottom line, Saffron was forced to close by her landlord. She told me all the details and all I can say is that she did her best to keep the business open and if she had a finacial set back, well it certainly was alot more that lucky mom's $100.00!! It is a shame, small business owners have such a tough time and when the landlords do not work with the tenant to help keep a thriving business alive or if they over charge for space they do not have!!! The smaIl busniess cannot survive, especially in this economy. Judy did the best she could do..She said for all the people who lost their gift cards, she was so sorry and tried to get her competitors to take them over, but they could not. With the bad economy, she understood.. Anyway, I just wanted to tell another side, as it was told to me by a very fine woman who did her best! I wish her well... more

Stuck with gift card 1/4/2009

Saffron salon in Concord closed without notice and many (like me) are stuck with unusable gift cards. Apparently, the owner, Judy Lyon, filed for bankruptcy. Pretty lame that she did not notify her customers to let them know to use their gift certificates before she closed. more

So disappointed 12/25/2008

So I turned up at Saffron two days before Christmas with my $100 card only to find it is closed down. What happened ? more

best wax EVER 8/17/2008

I've had waxes before and after Lisa (sadly, I am now 1000 miles away from her expertise) and she is by far the best. A full brazilian is practically painless (the key is the hard wax) and she is both quick AND thorough, even tweezes. On top of everything, she is great at making you feel comfortable. I am so sad that I might not find someone as good as her again!!! Pros: great atmosphere, other services sound just as good Cons: tad expenseive but worth it more

different but good 8/6/2008

I was hoping to get a last min apointment because my hair was really grown out and I felt a little desperate. I had to wait a week, but it was worth it. It was pretty friendly there, everyone liked eachother, and weren't fake or too dramactic in their style. I like to have a very natural blond so this felt right. I loved how my hair was shiny and soft afterwards. When I finished I went to Concord center and walked around a bit. Really nice. Sarah more

Puts the Ahhhh in Spa 11/8/2007

New to Concord and wanted somewhere I could count on for everything...nails, wax, cut, color, massage. Tried a few places in town, but nothing I would go back to. The staff at Saffron have been lovely at everyone of my many visits. Very accomidating when I need to reschedule or need a last minute appt. When I go in for services, I come out relaxed and totally revived. I call this place my little sanctuary now. Great waxing by Lisa, nails made beautiful again by Terry, and Sandy works her magic with hair. Saffron is a great go to place with exellent parking, prices, and welcoming enviornment. Go there and enjoy for yourself. Pros: Great location, Comfortable design inside, Wonderful staff more

Got to share my besk kept secret - Saffron 8/31/2007

How could I have been so lucky to find this place? After spending countless full days driving to all the big names on Newbury Street, I happened upon Saffron. After a facial, I ventured out into haircuts and color, with great trepidation, I might add. Never mind that I was elated, it was a great ego boost to have people compliment me on my hair cut, highlights and glowing skin and ask me where I go. So, though they are near and dear to me, I have to share it with those discriminating patrons like myself who search and search for talented people. It won't cost you a mortgage payment and you won't have to fight traffic and meter maids or even fuss with the new hig tech parking machines that take mastercard on Newbury St! Skip the 40.00 parking and get a delicious lunch at concord Provisions. It's gratifying! Pros: closeby, no drive, no hassles, very economical, considering the services Cons: It's closed on Labor Day weekend. more

Sophistication in the burbs... 8/23/2007

I just moved to Concord from the South End of Boston. A cultural shock in many ways. the thought of trecking back into town for my hair/massage/facial needs was not something I was looking for, but was sure I was going to have to... Alas, next door to Concord Provisions owned by one of the "Tom's" of Nantucket Nectors, a very swank grocer, there was Saffron, an even swanker Spa. Clean, light and airy, this Spa covers it all. No more trips to Newbury Street for me. Not only saving in parking and gas, but the pricing is well affordable for those of us use to paying outrageous fees for less of what one can get at Saffron. Try it out.... Victoria more

Heavenly Massage with Liz 5/17/2007

I'm in from out of town, but am in the area every few weeks. I found this spa on citysearch, so I'm compelled to write my own review. I have had all kinds of massage and I get a massage about every two weeks. Liz's massage was the best I've had - this was the first time she's worked on me and the massage was perfect - she found every problem area, used the right amount of pressure, didn't talk during the massage except when necessary. I'm truly amazed. Pros: Best Massage Cons: None more

Fab Haircuts for my boys! 4/28/2007

I sent my husband and son in for haircuts to Saffron, after getting a recommendation from a friend. My husband is more the barber haircut kind of guy and I was hoping for a better haircut for him. He was reluctant to go to a spa, thinking it more a place for "girls", but I made appointments for my guys and they went and had a great experience. They were both taken care of by a young woman named Alyssa (very tall and attractive) and they came out looking happy, relaxed, and I must say, handsome. My husband loved his haircut, thought the hairwash much nicer than the barber's ;), and was delighted that the price was so reasonable. He'll definitely go back to Alyssa! more

SHOCKING RESULTS FOR ALOT OF MONEY 3/31/2007

I RECENTLY VISITED THE SALON AT THE SUGGESTION OF A CO-WORKER AT EMERSON HOSPITAL. WELL MY CO-WORKER NOW REGRETS MAKING THE SUGGESTION AND I REGRET TAKING IT. I WAS ATTENDED TO BY A GIRL WHO WAS VERY YOUNG AND VERY INEXPERIENCED. I WANTED A TRIM AND A HIGHLIGHT. WELL, WHEN THIS GIRL WAS DONE I HAD MANY INCHES MISSING AND MY HEAD LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE CRACKED A RAW EGG ON MY HEAD AND LET IT DRIP DOWN. THE HIGHLIGHTS WERE HIDEOUS. THE GIRL , ALYSSA , WAS VERY NICE( CUTE, CHUBBY BLONDE). BUT BOY DOES SHE NEED SOME MORE SCHOOLING.I THINK SHE WAS JUST AS SURPRISED BY THE RESULTS OF HER HIGHLIGHTING JOB. I WAS IN TEARS WHEN I GOT HOME AND MY HUSBAND ASKED WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO MY HAIR. MY STYLIST QUITE FRANKLY SPENT MORE TIME TALKING TO CO-WORKERS THAN PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT SHE WAS DOING WITH MY HAIR. I WAS NOT AWARE THAT SHE WAS QUITE SO INEXPERIENCED AS I FOUND OUT LATER AND WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED BEING TOLD JUST HOW LITTLE EXPERIENCE SHE HAD. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS PLACE FOR HAIR...MAYBE SPA SERVICES ARE BETTER. I DO NOT INTEND TO FIND OUT. Pros: PRETTY INTERIOR Cons: NOT MADE AWARE OF SKILL LEVEL OF SYLIST OR LACK THEREOF!! more

Everything NOT SO NICE!!!!!!!!!!! 3/5/2007

I recently visited this spa in Concord, expecting it to be great because of the town. I went with a gift cert. from a friend and expected a great day. I got a facial, and was surprised how irritated I was for five days from the extraction. I have never experienced this in my life, I thought I had to go to the dermatogolist. It was awful considering it was a saturday and I had a date later that evening. My manincure was average, nothing more. While having my facial, I could not relax, maybe because my room was near the front desk, but they should keep that in mind with the chatting. Upon leaving, I spoke to the desk manager (older woman with freckles). She just wouldn't hear about my asking about the skin irritation, told me that is what you get with all facials. I just felt awful, because of this type of customer service. Isn't the customer always right??? I won't be back, and that is too bad because the location is nice, and the place was pretty inside. Pros: nice location Cons: parking, service, noisy more

Awesome Haircut, really really friendly people! 2/20/2007

I just had the best experience at Saffron Spa in Concord. I am a total freak about my hair and I got it cut by someone recommended by a friend and she was awesome. The people at the desk when you come into the Spa are so friendly. Sometimes when you go to these places the staff are really stuffy, but they asked me if they could hang up my coat and if I wanted some tea or coffee while I waited. I was really nervous, but everyone made me feel very comfortable and my hair stylist, Alyssa - I am not sure how she spells her name - was so nice and I just love my hair. more

salon 1/30/2007

I have never had a day of pampering like the half day I spent at saffron. I was greeted by the welcoming staff to tea, coffee and even cookies. They welcomed me like a friend not just another dollar sign. I started with a facial where i left with glowing skin...Ive never had an estetician spend so much time just talking to me about how i like my skin to feel and what i was really looking for out of my face. I then moved on to a charming massage therapist named Liz. She was so fun and energentic!! and even though my husband bought me a gift card for only a half hour massage Liz took time with me and made it feel like an eternity!! :O) After that they bought me lunch at Sorrento's (where I had a fab greek salad btw) Then moved through a pedi, mani and hair style. I've never had so much fullness and body to my hair before I met Alyssa D. She really worked with my thin limp hair. After all that I didn't wan to leave..I will be back, and trying acupuncture :O) more

quick and easy! 1/30/2007

I've been to Saffron on a few seperate occasions. I get my waxing done with Lisa. It's in a "sensitive" area and everytime she tells me she is done, I can't believe it because it was so quick and painless! When I walked in I was offered peppermint tea which was perfect for the season. Everyone was kind and seemed genuinely happy I was there. I wasn't sure about parking but they promptly filled my meter for me. I don't live in Concord but it was an easy drive. I hope to make an appointment for hair soon because a woman being checked out infront of me had very healthy looking highlights and cut and I'm not happy with the place I'm going to on Newbury Street. A little noisy but I was entertained and I felt like a could talk and didn't have to keep a straight face as is the case in other "spas". All in all I was pleased and I intend to return. Pros: Clean and Friendly - Cons: Nothing big enough to complain about more

Not surprised 1/26/2007

This place was awful & the owner crazy. It was only a matter of time till it caught up to her. You got your just rewards, Judy! Pros: that it went bankrupt Cons: none more

my experience lacking with facials 1/2/2007

I go monthly for skin care and I must agree with another review, my facial wasnt to great my skin was left red an irritated and I was so unrelaxed. The girl was unable to answer most of my questions. Saffron is in a great location a little pricey but I found they carry great product lines but if you have sensitive skin like myself you may want to ask for someone with more experience. I did get a good mani ,nails I would recommend. Pros: good location, easy booking Cons: parking, noisy more

First time, last time. Not for straight hair. 12/29/2006

My hair is straight and unforgiving, but what they did to my hair was unforgivable. My "bob" is uneven and choppy. I asked for an inch off and got at least two. The shorter side is so short, I'm going to have to wait and let it grow out before I get it cut again (I will be wearing hats until then). If she couldn't handle straight hair, my stylist should have said so. I had to sit and watch my hair get shorter and shorter as she tried to even it out. I have gotten a worse hair cut once before... at Super Cuts, but at least that time it was cheap and they left me with enough hair that I could get it fixed! Pros: ? Cons: bad hair cut more

Best spa in the Boston area 10/22/2006

Great place to go. Expert nail techicians and hair stylists! Wonderful ambiance and very friendly staff. Pros: Great staff Cons: parking more

unprofessional 10/12/2006

this is not a spa for relaxation. I felt like I was getting a facial in an airport it was that noisy. Staff was friendly but loud. It is more of a "salon" than a spa. I am used to a bit more professionalism. Facial was very mechanical and felt like the esthetician had little experience. She meant well, but was lacking something in her facial. I can think of better places for facials, so i won't be going back. more
