Where in the world is Kazumi? 2/8/2011

A few years ago I got my hair cut by Kazumi. My hair is curly and I have a lot of hair but she managed to do something different with my hair and a really cool style which I enjoyed. I had a really good experience in the salon. Thought it was really cool, but I completely adored Kazumi and dont know where to find her. Does anybody know where she is at?. I heard she moved to FL but that's about it. I need more info. thanks! more

Not so happy 11/8/2010

There were some good things about this salon, so I'll start there. The parking, even on a Sunday, was plentiful. They offered me a freshly-brewed coffee right away, and it was truly delicious! In general everyone was very nice and there was no attitude. I left with a decent color and cut that was close to what I'd requested. I was also very pleasantly surprised at the end when the total was 50% off! But there were many things that did not please me. I made the appointment for a black-tie event I'd been planning for two months and I wanted my hair to look great. (I was also shopping for a new stylist). I specifically told the appointment-setter on the phone that I wanted a style in addition to the color and cut. She didn't seem to get that on the first try, so I repeated it and was confident that I'd have someone style my hair at the end to go with the look I'd planned. At the end of my appointment, it became clear that I wasn't scheduled for that (not the stylist's fault) and I was very disappointed. At first she asked another stylist to do it (she had another appointment so she couldn't) but then at the end it didn't materialize. The stylist was really eager to please and was a nice person. But from the beginning when the barrage of monologue started about her kid, I knew it was going to be a long morning. She's studying for a degree in another field and was clearly just doing hair to pay for that -- which in theory is fine, except it's MY HAIR! It was just unprofessional. She also didn't seem to listen to what I wanted, or even notice when I said something, so I finally gave up and shut up. I asked for eyebrow color -- she at first said it wasn't allowed (and I completely understand) and then seeing my disappointment agreed to do it. Unfortunately (I have brown/gray hair dyed blond with highlights) the color came out *darker* instead of lighter. When I first sat down, she looked at my roots and exclaimed, ""you have a LOT of gray!"" Well big surprise, I'm 50 -- and this does not make a good first impression. She was also very self-congratulatory and several times said ""I should be good, I've been doing this for 12 years!"" Isn't that for the client to decide? I heard at great length how in one day a week doing hair she wanted to make ""lots of money."" I felt like a captive ATM. Isn't the client supposed to come first? At the beginning I also tried showing her a photo of myself in the evening's outfit so she'd know how I wanted my hair styled, but she wouldn't even take a look, and at first barely acknowledged me. The color process was a little odd; it felt like she was jamming the brush into my head and it was uncomfortable at times. The foils were irregular and sloppy and appeared to be randomly placed over about 1/4 of my head. That said, I loved the cut. There was generally a good vibe in the salon, but a few things were amiss. First, there were no robes. So I had to put my shirt back on and go out to find one. Second, the WiFi was down. This was a huge problem as I'd planned to prepare a document during my long appointment -- one needed for the event that night. I got as much done as I could using my iPhone connection and transferring it to my computer. But I had to complete it at home, and was subsequently late to the event. Lastly, I really like the owners' attitude that they want to make sure every customer leaves happy -- and it might be a nice touch if the owner came around to check on clients, especially new ones. I must say I'm shocked by the tone of the owners' responses to unhappy clients here (although some are nice and appropriate). But I just do not see how the defensive snarkiness will do the salon any good, and if any of the reviews identified as fake were indeed real, that client will be extra mad. I'm sure I'll get it here as well -- sigh -- as I did not post a five-star. But as I was shopping for a new salon/stylist, there was just too much wrong with the experience to come back. more

Great! 9/24/2010

I had pretty long hair, and wanted to switch to short hair. I went to the salon with some pictures of what I wanted and showed them to Jennifer. She carefully looked at it and managed to cut my hair exactly as I wanted to (and it's a pretty special haircut that she didn't know anything about before I show her pictures). She got very patient (a lot of work to do, lot of hair to cut!), attentive and focused. You should definetely go to this salon: great haircut, nice people, and affordable. And the area is great too! I can't see any reason not to go there next time I need to get my hair cut! more

Great Salon with great talent and reasonable prices 9/6/2010

4 years ago I found the impossible, a terrific hair stylist, brilliant at cutting, coloring and perming too. I had just been going to him for a few months when a family emergency meant we had to leave California and move home. When I knew I would be coming back to Los Angeles for a business trip I immediately started searching for Miguel. He had left the salon I used to go to but I was able to find out that he had moved to a salon in Venice, and started searching for him online. A review in Citysearch gave me the clue I needed and a phone call verified that Miguel was now working at Sit Still on Main Street. I had my hair done last Thursday and it looked absolutely fabulous when I walked out of the salon. The color is amazing and the cut is fantastic, it is easy to manage (even for me) and looks great for the first time in four years. Miguel is a great hair stylist, immensely talented, with the ability to give each client, young or old, trendy or not, a flattering style they will be happy with. He is the only hairdresser that I have ever trusted enough to say that I will leave all of the decisions to him, knowing that I will love the final look and definitely the best hair stylist that I have ever had. more

cool salon with great talent 4/29/2010

I'm probably one of the most picky men out there for finding a hairstylist. My sister is an accomplished stylist and has taught me the differences between good and bad technique. Miguel recently joined Sit Still and has excellent technique. So much so that after seeing my sister recently she actually questioned who gave me my cut and stated their technique was impressive. Needless to say, I will only be going to Miguel for as long as he works here. Pros: very comfortable local place, great talent Cons: a bit pricey but worth it more

KAZUMI my best stylist ever! 2/26/2010

A few years back, I was ready to try someone new to do my haircut and styling... I went to SIT STILL SALON, and was matched with Kazumi. \r I challenged her from day one.\r Telling her, that I wanted my long hair cut off completely, actually shaved in the back, she strongly advised me not to, but my mind was set.\r She went ahead, and with a very unmanageable hair due to uneven curls, so called cow-licks etc, she was able to create a look, which I loved! \r However, I decided to grow my hair back again, not because of her styling, but due to my work as a model, - and the longer hair gives me more versatility...\r As most know, the time in between, where the hair is not long enough to be considered long, and not short enough to be short, usually is a nightmare, when it comes to style. Nevertheless, Kazumi kept creating looks and styles, which worked w/the lengths, as well as complimenting my facial structures!!\r Of selfish reasons, it made me sad, when she told me, that she was leaving the salon and California!!\r I have my long hair back though, healthy and shiny, so I guess, it is time to let her help others elsewhere ;) \r I wish you nothing but the best Kazumi, - I will miss your work and your personality! You are the best!!\r And to whomever get to have Kazumi work on their hair, your lucky day :)\r \r Majken\r Web: MajkenDK Pros: Her ability to create new hair styles + her personality! Cons: Non! more

If you want the best...SIT STILL!!! \r Thank you Sarah for a head-gasm wash and advice! THANK YOU Zac for the BEST HAIRCUT EVER!! I send you nothing but RED ENVELOPES! Pros: Sharp lookin salon+Sharp Staff=Me leavin lookin SHARP Cons: NADA more

BEST HAIR SALON IN LOS ANGELES 1/2/2010

I'm from London I've had my hair done by some of the top hair stylists in there and here in LA... My Hair cut at Sit Still is Definitely Best cut I've had - - great vibe, really good value for money. I've been there twice now and I can genuinely say leagues ahead of anything else I've had here.... I've had colour there twice now too - and same story - REALLY REALLY good !!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Bring on the day he opens a London salon!!!! Pros: Brilliant cutting and colour- best salon in LA Cons: no cons more

Tommy is the best! 12/22/2009

My former stylist at Sit Still left the area, so I went to Tommy. He has done a fantastic hair makeover for me: Color, highlights, Brazilian blowout, and completely new cut. I look like I just stepped out of a magazine!...Well, at least my hair does. :) Pros: Every stylist I've seen there is excellent; walk-ins welcome more

Sit Still is awesome~ Zac did an amazing job on my hair, the color and cut are perfect! Friendly and relaxing and fun! I am so grateful to find Sit Still... ?.•´¯`?.?*¨`*?? •.¸? Pros: Best Salon I have ever been to more

Tommie is a great hairstylist! 11/13/2009

Tommie was great...very nice, competent, and very reasonably priced. He has cut my hair, colored it, and most recently did the ""Brazilian"" Hair straightening process. Each job has been perfect! I have no complaints. I'm so relieved I don't have to keep looking anymore for a hairdresser to do each of these things, because usually they are only good at one of them. With Tommie, I can get it all. Pros: Cool cuts, and excellent Brazilian hair straightening more

best salon in venice 10/16/2009

Everything around Venice is expensive and sit still was the only place that i felt was worth my money. Hil Moyers cut my shitty long hair into short stylish hair that doesn't make me look unemployed. haha thanks hil and everyone at sit still. more

love this salon 10/15/2009

ive gone to every salon in venice looking for a great hairstylist, but havent been able to find someone who i clicked with. my friend told me she got a great cut from Deirdre, so i decided to try her out-and i got an amazing cut! i have finally found someone who really listens...first of all, she was very friendly and stylish, so i trusted her with my hair. she asked me lots of questions and we really nailed a look before she started. i wanted a bob, but when we were done it was too perfect, so i asked her to make it messy and sexy, and she chopped into it and stuff. i love it, and i would recommend her to anyone looking for an amazing cut!! the staff was really friendly too...ill definatly be back soon for color:)\r Pros: chill vibe, no pretension more

get one of their top stylists, or run for your life..... 10/9/2009

I've tried the salon several times because it is so close to my house, and I have had some good experiences, but definitely more bad ones. I've had bad washes (not rinsed properly), terrible blow drys (left looking like a fluffy poodle) and generally RUN HOME to fix my hair before anyone sees me. From all of the reviews I have read, there must be some really great stylists there, just make sure you book with one of them OR GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Pros: for me, location... Cons: some of the stylists are really inexperienced more

What a great experience!! 9/17/2009

I have never had such a great haircut! Zac really took his time with me and gave me a style that is easy for me to maintain and looks amazing... my husband jumped me as soon as I got home! He made me feel really comfortable and he gave me a lot of attention. He even asked the receptionist to take a message when he got a phone call during my appointment, I was impressed. He shampooed my hair himself and took his time making sure I was happy at the end. I will definitely go back and see him! Pros: Zac is amazing Cons: I have nothing bad to say, it was great! more

Fabulous Hair Cut, Great Price! 9/16/2009

I visited Sit Still salon after reading the many geat reviews on this site and am thrilled with the results! I had long, unruly, dry hair that had been over high-lighted by a (much more expensive) Beverly Hills salon. Zac took me in, sat me down, assessed the mess and went to work. I walked away with a cute cut that is easy to manage and with gorgeous color -- all at a very reasonable price! Everyone at Sit Still is incredibly friendly - absolutely no pretention. Love the place, love my hair. Can't wait to go back! Pros: Professional staff, amazing color, great cut Cons: None! more

Tommy, Thank You! 8/30/2009

I am pretty amazed with my experience at this salon. I had a bad haircut that I needed to fix when I came to the salon. My friend cut my hair into a bob but it looked pretty bad. I went from having long hair to a short bob. I called the salon in the morning and got in the same day. I came to see Tommy. I also have a little 11 month old boy that I had to bring with me. Tommy's assistant was so kind to watch my son the whole time I was there because my son refused to sit in the stroller. Anyhow, it took Tommy 2 hours to transform my simple screwed up bob into a sassy, stylish a-bob that looks and fills amazing. The second I left the salon, I got so many compliments already. It definitely is a boost to my confidence and self-esteem as a new mom. I feel great. Thank you, Tommy. Pros: Friendly staff, great haircut more

Great Experience 8/13/2009

I haven't had my hair cut in almost 2 years. I was a little nervous, but was greeted and treated really well. I had the best shampoo I've ever experienced and had my hair cut by Tommy. What a sweet guy and good with the scissors too! I'll be returning when it's time for a trim. Pros: got in right away more

Hil Moyers:Best Stylist and great deal on Brazillian Blowout 8/10/2009

I have extremely thick long hair that isn't easy to manage. After living in LA for 8 years and crying after leaving many different salons...I have finally found my hairstylist soulmate!! Hil Moyers has transformed my unruly locks into an edgy style that rules and is maintainable. I can't say enough about how happy I am every time I leave Hil's station at Sit Still. She recently applied the new Brazillian Blowout technique to my hair and now I can leave the house knowing that my hair will remain exactly how I styled it no matter the weather. I HIGHLY recommend going to Hil for a Brazillian Blowout if you have thick hair. I feel like it's a goodamn mirracle. Pros: Best Stylist in town for a hairstyle that will turn heads! more
