I've been looking for a stylist for years!!! Monique at Urban Roots saved me from a bad hair day when I have a double weddings one Saturday. She styled my hair perfectly and a got tons of compliments that day. I decided to go back to have her do a cut and color and I am so happy I went back!! I loved the way Monique cut my hair (especially the bangs! she does a great job on the side swept look) and a month later the color in my hair is still as vibrant as ever. A big thanks to Citysearch for helping me find this salon in my area. No matter where you live I would recommend Monique to anyone and everyone! more

This was my first time at Urban Roots Salon, and i loved my experience! From the time i made my appointment, until the time i check out, my experience was awesome. I consider myself to be very picky client and don't trust alot of hair stylist. Since, i have had a couple of bad experiences in the past. MONIQUE, did my hair, and she did an great job, she did everything that i asked for. She has a great personality and was very bubby. I went to get my color and cut, and asked her for her opinion and she was completely honest, which i loved. I had already recommended her to my friend and family! more

First I have to thank city search for leading me in the right direction. I have been looking and searching for a salon near my house, I live in Downey and came across Urban Roots Salon form reading the reviews on city search. I am 33 years old and have never colored my hair ever. So I came and saw Krissy, who is very bubbly, and has years behind her belt, she made me feel very comfortable and she really listened to my needs, I came out of the salon looking like a victoria's secret model, my hair was colored a beautiful chocloate brown, and she kept my hair long , but added a bunch of layers. When I went to work the next day, everyone kept telling me how great my hair looked. Oh and the products they used look very european. I bought shampoo and conditioner from Davines and my hair feels, and smells like fresh laundry.. anyhow thanks Krissy and the rest of the friendly staff at Urban Roots for making my year, I will be back and can't wait to see what she will do next. There is only 1 person in this world that I trust with my hair and that is Krissy. I've been getting my hair done by her for over 10 years and I've never been disappointed. She's fantastic with color!!!! People stop me all the time and ask me where I get my hair done. My friends love her and get there hair done by her too. She's the sweetest and I love coming to see her. At other salons, I've seen my friends get there hair done and it takes 4 or 5 hours. Not with Krissy, she knows her stuff so it doesn't that long at all. Everyone at Urban Roots are so nice and friendly too. more

I just have to give proper thanks to my new stylist Krissy. I had my hair cut and highlighted by her. I can't even explain how amazing my hair looks. This girl is a pro. I haven't found a salon I could call home, but now I finally can. If you have long frizzy dry hair like me and think nothing or nobody can help, go see Krissy at Urban Roots Salon, she made my hair soft shiny and very modern, The only drawback is the building it self it's kind of hard to find, but hey it's definatley a diamond in the ruff.. Hi there! I made my appointment over the phone and I wasn't sure if they would have anything open for a cut, color and style for the same day of my call, but sure enough there was a super friendly person on the phone whose name was Rosey! So right from then, I felt very welcomed to the salon!! Anyways I was running late for my appointment due to traffic, but that was okay! My stylist's name was Yolanda and she was so friendly and very careful with my hair! She paid close attention to what I asked for and she did such a wonderful job on my blonde hair color and my stylish cut!! It's much more than I had wanted and I'm very grateful to her! Also being a visitor from a foreign country made my experience that much more enjoyable!! I wish there was this kind of quality salons in my home country New Zealand! =) 5/5 for URS <3 Pros: I will be back someday!! Cons: None! more

After reading the post below, I was very compelled to write a rebuttal... I have been going to URS for quite some time. I know all of the stylists as well as Rosie personally. It is unfortunate that an ex-employee and ex-friend of the owner would have audacity to write a review with utter hatred. Once a friendship ends, it is very disheartened that people forget the good memories and only harp on ways to seek revenge for whatever reason Who cares what music Rosie enjoys, as a human she in entitled to her choice. URS is a great place, from the music to the service. Since the mole has been removed, everyone at URS is a license Cosmetologist, there is no more drama, and I enjoy the atmosphere even more.... I've been to Urban Roots twice already and i will definitely go back for more of Ashley. =) For my first visit I got a haircut and color service. Ashley did an awesome job on my haircut and peek-a-boo highlights. For my second visit i went in for a bodywave soft perm and i loved it. (Time went by pretty fast...i didn't even get to taste the latte she made me. ) lol Urban Roots Salon is a perfect place for quality salon services. I know this person, have always gotten along with this person and would've expected more from them. I hope they are as classy as I thought they were and apologize OR ATLEAST remove the negative review when they know it is based on hurtful lies. ***** My name is David and I have known Rosey for 15 years. She is the absolute opposite of what that review portrays her as. She is always all smiles and is hip and fun! She has more style than a lot of people I know and who gives a @&^%$! if she likes 80's music? I'm pretty sure a lot of people do. Hell, I like it! There I said it! Being in the entertainment business, I find that kind-hearted, artistic people like Rosey who persevere and don't send bad vibes to others, are the ones that soar high and make names for themselves and that is why I've hired her for film projects and constantly recommend her to anyone that I come across, looking for an extremely talented proffesional that is a very nice person. I've been coming to Rosey since before the salon opened. She has her finger on the pulse of the beauty industry. She and her current staff are continuously going to advanced education classes and bringing those new techniques back to the salon. I am always impressed when I hear what they've been up to: hair shows, advanced education seminars, a hair cruise, fashion week LA, auditioning for salon shows on TV and numerous events in and around LA and OC. I recognize Rosie and her fashion forward tribe of stylists as the leading edge when it comes to knowledge and customer service. I LOVE URS! Urban Roots is such an amazing relaxing , welcoming ,homecoming place, Rosie really makes you comefortable and welcoming! She does so much to make not only her employees feel confortable at work but for the client! She has remodeled her place on her own alway always stocks up un goodies and wine for a relaxing get away and puts everyone else before herself everything comes out of her own pocket! She will even come in super early for a client and stay super late. She doesnt do what she does as a job but as a talent and a way of living not to mention that she is great at what she does and trains so so hard to be even more knowlegable not only for her self but for her clients and to help out her wonderful talented staff as well! Whoever would dare to post something so negative about her would be an issue they must have but Rosie really is a great amazing person who is strong ,dedecated , loving, careing, helpful , understanding, and she has so so much more coming her way and we are lucky to have such an amazing place like urban roots where people have welcoming faces rather than snooty faces when you walk in and Rosie really is a great person who knows what shes doing. I have been a client of Urban Roots Salon since Rose opened, I have been a client of Rose since 1996, she is the only person I will ever let touch my hair ! Rose has amazing energy and her vision for taking her salon to new and a great direction is inspiring for young professionals, Rose and her sttaff greet you with a smile a fabulous attitude and a knowledgeable trade. Rose has made a Salon in Downey, Hip and enjoyable to be at, I like the Madonna music and techno beats... How can you resist that smile of her's especially, for anyone to say she is unwelcoming is a fool that does not know happy ! I love URS and refer her to everyone i know ! My stylist was Rose, the owner. I was so nervous to try a new salon, but as soon as I walked in I felt comfortable and welcome. The Salon is very clean and everyone was super Nice. Rose is such a great stylist, she listened to what I wanted and did an amazing job on my color. She really knows her stuff, her staff was great and I can't wait to go back! Good times at Urban Roots! I went to this shop a few times to get my hair done but the owner Rose has a bad attitude, she talks down to the other stylist and doesn't even smile upon entering. As the owner you would think she would be friendly and always greeting clients, her whole appearance is not welcoming. The other stylist are great, the vibe is great when the Rose isn't around ,but once she comes in the shop, the mood changes and she plays madonna or techno music instead of nice relaxing music. She either needs to clean up her act or the other stylist will end up leaving, no one wants to come into a shop where the owner is a nothing, she either needs to get some or clean up her act before Urban Roots will be Dead Roots. Vanessa is a pro and knows her stuff.. My highlights look great! I've tried other salons and just was not happy with any of them. Until now! I can't explain how relieved I am to finally have found a new hairstylist and salon with a great staff. I would recommend Urban Roots to anyone. I will be seeing you soon for my next appoinment. I've been to Urban Roots twice now and Mandi was my stylist both times. The first visit I got a haircut and color service; it was very pleasant and enjoyable and time flew by, and Mandi did an amazing job on my color and haircut. It also wasn't just me that appreciated her expert work, I received countless compliments from friends and family on my new haircut! The salon is in a cozy location and their staff effortlessly go out of their way to make you comfortable, such as offering tasty beverages as well as various specials so you can get the service you want and save money at the same time! I highly recommend Urban Roots Salon, especially Mandi's amazing service, to all my friends, and I recommend the same to any Citysearch users as well! more

I luv this salon my cousin introduced me to, first off my appointment is always on time I dont have to wait or have my hair done with 2 other people at the same time like alot of other salons. My stylist is Mandi and she makes me feel wonderful everytime I leave the salon. The conditioning treatments leave my wild hair soft and shiny. She styles my hair beautifully and I dont have the easiest hair to deal with lol. The ambience is great, everyone there has a energetic personality and the salon is beautiful. I think it helps a lot that the person cutting your hair is really cool, that way you have good communication and don't leave with any regrets about your hair. So yah Mandy cut my hair very "trendy-licious" haha, her words not mines, and I have no regrets because she's great and my hair looks wild as f*@k. The other stylists there are real cool too so I wouldn't mind getting a cut with them either. The salon is damn near perfect. Plus Mandy is real cute guys. more
