Over Promised and Under Delivered Tourist Trap Pt1 11/27/2011

I really wish that I had listened to the previous review and stayed away. But I figured that the complaint was so long ago that maybe it was a misunderstanding. I was comparing this company and the Homestead Ranch sleigh ride, and I chose this one over the Homestead Ranch because even though homestead is cheaper, and you get a private ride for no extra cost, I thought that the experience would be far greater here after speaking with one of the employees. I was sold pretty hard on the idea of riding in a sleigh along a river to get to a private cabin and eat a delicious home cooked dinner. But from the first moment I arrived, I became disappointed. There wasn't enough snow to ride on the sleigh, so we had to use the wagon wheels instead. In my opinion, they should've called that morning to inform us of this. If I wanted a wagon ride, I would've gone to temple square and acquired a private carriage and gone up Memory Grove for a 45 minute ride. Instead, my husband and I, along with 20-30 other people piled into a wooden like trailer with seating that faced side to side like a hay ride. The ride wasn't longer than 15 mins, I could still see the road and cars driving past from our seats. We headed away from where our cars where parked then made a U loop back to the cabin that was only approx. 150 feet from where we parked our cars. They partially redeemed themselves with a charming cabin that had lights strung, and inside the cabin were banquet log tables (not too sturdy I might add, almost fell over a couple of times, yikes!) but they did have place cards for where your party was to sit. They have live entertainment that included a solo guitarist that did a pretty good job, he even took requests. I made sure to leave him a tip, but he was probably the most enjoyable thing about the evening. However, we were seated so close to the guitarist that we couldn't speak to one another from across the table. We ended up pulling out my husband's phone and texting back and forth in order to have a conversation. There was a bowl of soup on our plates when we arrived that was a bit warmer than room temperature, and it tasted very similar to a canned soup, although I can't be certain if that is what it was. They served dinner in a buffet line however I was really confused as to when we were supposed to go get the next item of food. No one announced it and we didn't have a server for our table, or if we did, they never introduced themselves to us. We served ourselves, and the food was okay. I ate the beef, potatoes and beans but wasn't blown away by flavor as I had been told I would be. It certainly wasn't worth the price. (see part2 below) more

Over Promised and Under Delivered Tourist Trap 11/27/2011

PART2 When we received our bill I was surprised to find that the total was more than 190.00 dollars for the two of us and we weren't in the ""holiday season"". On our drive home I discovered that our total included an automatic 17% percent gratuity. The gratuity was added to the total cost of the sleigh ride and dinner price, which ended up to be around 27.00 dollars. I feel that this is ridiculous as the wagon ride was no longer than 15 minutes, and we didn't have a server, we had to go get the food ourselves and pour our own drinks. We were so disappointed with our experience that I called this morning (we did the ride last night) and give feedback to the manager and I spoke with a woman who was continually defensive and contradicted what I had experienced in person. I told her how disappointed I was with the appetizers and she took great offense to that. Told me that everything was home made...but they served us chips and salsa (homemade I guess...) on a paper plate with no spoon to dish the salsa and paper cups with reheated powered coco or apple cider. I didn't care for it and from that point on she fought me on every other comment I had. I told her that they needed to call us to let us know that there wasn't enough snow and she said that it was out of her control. I said that I didn't like being carted around with 30 other people for a short wagon ride and she said the the wagon we used was our of her control. I told her that I couldn't believe the amount of gratuity they charged and she said that it was optional but it was already rolled into the price when we signed the bill. When I originally called to make our reservation, I told Tammi that price wasn't a problem, but that I wanted a memorable experience to give to my husband on his birthday. And after being so disappointed I simply called to give feedback, I WAS NOT LOOKING TO GET ANYTHING FOR FREE. Sometimes I feel that people complain just to get something in return, I want to make the point that this was not my intention. But instead, all I received was an angry woman who had her feelings hurt that I didn't enjoy the home cooked bread and could care less that she charged us almost 200.00 dollars and we weren't satisfied. I spoke with our baby sitter after our experience, and she informed me that the Homestead Ranch is a much better experience and told us that she wished that we had talked to her prior to making our reservation. Maybe next year we'll try Homestead, but we are DEFINITELY NOT COMING BACK. They overpromised a once in a lifetime experience that left us disappointed and they emptied our pocketbooks for an easy payday. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY!!! Sorry to long, but I want to give you all the details of what you are to experience if you choose this mistake of a company. Don't say I didn't warn you. more

Awesome Experience 5/17/2010

We took a horseback tour this month and had a great experience. It was slow season so we ended up getting a private tour for the group rate. Ed, our guide, was very friendly and knew a lot of interesting information about the area. The price is reasonable and you can tell the business is family run. We are thinking about going back for an overnight horseback trip with them our next vacation to Park City. Pros: Friendly Staff, Beautiful Views more

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL COMPANY 3/23/2009

I attempted to give this company a bit of negative feedback, which the website encouraged by the way, and a manager named Sherry sent me a mean and HORRIBLY defensive e-mail response! I couldn't believe the lack of professionalism she showed; she honestly said to me that I might be confused by a tree with no leaves on it - I might not recognize it as a tree!!!\r \r Also, a staff member ran my debit card number without my consent. He'd undercharged me earlier when I had actually signed my receipt, and we said we would discuss it and run my card again. He left, and I never saw him, even though I looked for him. I soon discovered he ran my NUMBER without my consent, my card or my signature for $45 more!!!\r \r The experience was weak, the price was outlandish and the treatment I received from the staff was HORRIFIC. I would never recommend this company. Pros: Thank goodness I now know what company NOT to use Cons: The manager and staff are dishonest and sleazy more

WHAT AN AMAZING EVENING!!! 1/19/2009

WHAT AN AMAZING EVENING!! Our experience was totally worth the 30 minute drive and it was a beautiful one at that..... We had been recommended to Rocky Mountain Sleigh by other folks we were talking to at the hotel that had done the snowmobile tour and sleigh ride dinner together the day/evening before and said that they had ""the time of their life""!!! So, I figured if they were that excited, it was what I was looking for our family to experience while visiting Park City. When we got to the ranch, they have these cute (nice and warm) welcome tents and fire pit with benches to sit around until the sleighs come to pick you up. Inside we had hot chocolate and hot cider (the best I've ever had actually) and chips, mango salsa, fruit bread and this really yummy sweet cream cheese that was amazing!! My children were all excited as they heard the sleighs coming with the bells on the horses in this absolutely beautiful setting. It was truly what I had seen in the movies and had always hoped that I could someday experience with my children. We went on the sleigh (what a beautiful and amazing ride) and then we were brought to this log cabin that was all lit up and went inside.... WOW!!! It's a true log cabin that they had just decorated with lights inside, candles, a great big fireplace going.... We were all in awe!! They gave us nice warm soup when we came in to warm us up and then we tried a little bit of everything they had in the buffet line and all of the food was great and we were so stuffed, but they had these delicious looking desserts to choose from!!! (Of course, we had to try a little of each of those too)!!! We all had such a wonderful time with our family and met other wonderful people that seemed to be having almost as much fun as we were!! The staff was just amazing and made us feel so welcome and at home... This was truly an experience that we will never forget!!! Much more than we ever anticipated!! I TOTALLY RECOMMEND, THEY ARE A CLASS ACT!! Linn Pros: Beautiful setting, Amazing Ambience In Log Cabin, Any age would love it.... more

Dirty Business at Rocky Mountain Sleigh Co. 1/23/2007

Rocky Mountain Sleigh Co. seemed like the perfect choice when booking a honeymoon escape for my brother and his new bride. My mother reserved their space for a dinner sleigh ride 3 weeks in advance and secured the reservation with a credit card. The staff at RMS instructed my mother to call back the day of the scheduled ride to pay and confirm for the ride. \r \r The morning of the scheduled sleigh ride my mother called and talked with her original contact with hopes of settling the bill and confirming that everything was scheduled as planned. As many of you know planning and executing a wedding can be stressful enough and we wanted everything to be perfect for my brother and his wife as this sleigh ride and dinner would be the highlight of their honeymooning time together. \r \r Moving along, when my mother called she was told by the staff, ""We can not do the sleigh ride tonight."" Confused and upset, my mother explained that we made a reservation well in advance and probed for further explanation. She asked ""What's the problem, why are you not running tonight? Do you have our reservation? Is there a health or mechanical problem that is halting the operation?"" This was met with a weak explanation of, ?We have your reservation. We are running but we can not accommodate you, it's out of our hands, I'm sorry."" There was no offer for compensation or help arranging another ride, just simply a rude, unwarranted, unanticipated cancellation. No one had tried to reach us to explain any issues before we initiated the call to confirm. Do not use this company. A reservation is not a guarantee. No accountability or good business practice will be found at Rocky Mountain Sleigh Co.\r \r I would highly recommend using Homestead Ranch for your sleigh ride dinner and/or adventure. This company was able to find a way to fit us in with a same day reservation. They came to the rescue of our devastated plans and the bride and groom enjoyed their evening with Homestead Ranch. \r more
