...my first review. I chose Red Fish Grill for our wedding anniversary celebration. I have visited this restaurant just shy of ten times and I can say that I really like it.\r I don't believe that the purpose of a restaurant review is to glorify or trash the place, but to point out the strengths and the "next times".\r The choices were limited but excellent. \r I thought about ordering some champagne but the prices did not match the quality offered. Not being heavy drinkers, we ordered this time by the glass.\r I normally don't enjoy dinning outdoors but I wanted to please my wife on this special date. Dining at 6:30 pm, it was still pretty warm, but enjoyable. Beautiful sight of the bay. We did not notice any mosquito activity as mentioned in other reviews, but some flies for a few minutes. Or course, eating outdoors has these consequences. It is not the restaurant's fault.\r \r Understanding that this is a place by the sea, the location and the prices call for some more sophistication if we talk about attire. We found the same casual attitude a few times in The Chart House in Coconut Grove. \r \r Always taking in consideration price, value and location, I found disappointing that they do not pay much attention to table protocol. I had to use the same knife for my ceviche than for the butter and bread. And the bread arrived at the same time that our appetizers. The butter, by the way, very plain. It is about the details.\r \r We were happy with our choices. We took advantage of the Miami Spice offer. I was hesitant to do so because I questioned if service level would be tied to our choice. I can say that we were very satisfied with the service we were provided with.\r \r I never visit restaurant restrooms, but I find interesting the fact that they are located outside and shared with the beach going crowd, as other Urbanspoon members have mentioned. \r \r This is not a cheap restaurant by any means, but it is fair priced for the service, food quality and ocean view you get. I do find annoying that people at the beach look at you while you are eating but, again, I normally do not enjoy dining outdoors. \r \r Ugliest dish I have ever seen: Frisee & Watermelon Salad. Just saying..... more

The micro-greens were delicate and added a subtle grassy note to this original way of serving conch fritters, which is a traditional and flavorful Bahamian recipe, now also popular all over Miami more

All around wonderful restaurant. Beautiful setting at dusk, a very tranquil experience. The food was delicious, including the appetizers and the desserts. Service was very good too...I believe the food took a while to come out, but it was okay because I was having a nice time just relaxing outside. Expensive, but worth it. more

I have not visited this restaurant in years. Honestly, I was not that impressed the first couple of times.\r \r I am a newcomer to the Blackberry application "OpenTable" and tried to set a reservation but could not find the time slot desired. My wife was nice enough to pick up the phone and we were guaranteed a table even if we were a little late. I just realized that Miami Spice was happening and did not reserve a table with enough time.\r At the end, we got the table we wanted. Beautiful ocean view.\r \r Red Fish Grill does not even offer a kids' menu, but I was not that worried as my 5 years old daughter is used to dine with us.\r \r The Miami Spice menu offered anyway what we were looking for. I could say, and my wife agrees, that if you choose this option all that you are doing is getting dessert for free, because the price really matches perfectly the regular menu. \r \r I cannot wait to say that the Shrimp Ceviche is to die for. And I find so interesting the fact that they use popcorn to decorate the top part of the plate. Outstanding flavor. I could have had this dish as my main course.\r \r I normally do not order a bottle of wine but tonight we were in the mood. We ordered the Marquez de Caceres because I love Spanish wines and it was well priced. Happy with our choice.\r \r The Pan Fried Red Snapper was very fresh. Ginger pieces on top, fried yuca on the side. I would definitely recommend it.\r \r The "free" dessert: caramel flan. Perfect sized portion. Delicious.\r \r I definitely enjoyed my visit to this restaurant. more

The view is simply amazing. It is good to go right before sunset so you can appreciate the bay better. Food is good and service amazing. more

But the ambiance and location bring this place over the moon. I have been several times and my fav odly enough is the skirt steak. The fish, seafood and aps all taste very pedestrian to me, but the wines are fab and the view is breathtaking at sunset, it is a must see. more

Best Kept Secret in Miami!!! 2/20/2009

I went to Red Fish Grill last week with my boyfriend for our anniversary. I hadn't dined at the restaurant in a while and was very pleased with the entire experience. Quite a few things have changed since the last time I was there. They have replaced the old plastic chairs with chiq orange chairs that fit in perfectly with the tropical ambiance. A brand new awning was put up, covering a portion of the outdoor patio, which will be great on rainy nights. We were fortunate to have clear skies that evening and sat under the stars along the edge of the patio overlooking the lagoon, with the soft glow of a tiki torch lighting our table. Talk about romantic! The service was outstanding. Our waiter, Brian, was well-spoken, attentive and extremely personable, not typically found at most Miami restaurants. The menu has changed since the last time I was there. After asking, we were informed that a new chef has completely revamped the cuisine, and what a difference he has made. We started the meal with the Soup du Jour and the Peppercorn Seared Tuna appetizer. The Truffled Corn & Crab Soup was one of the tastiest soups that I have ever had and the Tuna appetizer was seared to perfection, with a nice hint of spice from the wasabi aioli. We ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi and the Seabass Special. The Mahi had a nice kick to it, which married perfectly with the buttery whipped sweet potatoes and creamy blue cheese leek fondue. The crispy panko crusted Seabass was moist and flavorful, with a sauce that would make any well-mannered lady want to lick the bowl clean. To finish off our fantastic meal, we shared the delightfully tart Homemade Key Lime Pie. Now, I like to consider myself an expert on Key Lime Pie, and this one can stand up to the best of them. After revisiting Red Fish Grill, I can say that it is an unparalleled oasis in Miami's dining scene and I would recommend it to anyone who has yet to experience it. Pros: Romantic location, beachside view, food, and service Cons: Bathrooms are in separate building more

Rave review from health nut! 2/17/2009

I would like to tell you how impressed I was with this restaurant, the service, and the food! I was there with my husband and 2 kids under 3 yrs. old and celebrating my 38th birthday. We are not frequent diners and were nervous about how our experience would be BUT, it turned out to be very memorable. From the reservation system, to the hostess's big friendly smile, the friendly and concerned manager Alex, the server James, the food was delicious contrary to previous reviews and comments I've heard and read.....I had the churrasco entree and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor and texture of the meat..it was not too spicy or salty or too GREASY like other restaurants. The rice pilaf was flaky and also very fresh tasting and I also appreciated that it was NOT GREASY at all like some places, the chimichurri was yummy! The mixed peppers were good too! My husband had the chicken and mashed potatoes and he is usually a pasta guy from a family of cooks and he raved about his meal also. The ambience was perfect although it was raining, but we were very comfortable under the awning and the torches and the music made the mood very relaxing despite having 2 toddlers getting fussy. Pros: Food, service, ambience, parking, location Cons: Just the restroom being outside more

Red Fish Grill should be on the list of Miami's best restaurants. Perfect location tucked away in a beautiful park and right on the water, great menu of the freshest seafood and vegetables, and fantastic service make this restaurant a sure thing. Great for romantic dinners this is a perfect example of how more restaurants should behave. more

Ultimate Romance and Great Food! 2/19/2008

My husband took me to Red Fish Grill for my birthday. I had never been there before, but he told me that it had come highly recommended and to give it a try. I am a tough critic as I am in the restaurant industry and I have to say, Red Fish exceeded my expectations. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant itself is a historic building with authentic coral rock and the lighting and artwork is very nicely done. Outside is the best. Palm trees are wrapped in twinkle lights and the view is spectacular. The food was very good. We started with the calamari and tuna wonton. The calamari was excellent and we really liked the lemon garlic aioli it was served with. The tuna wonton was really good and the presentation nicely done. For entrees we had the Seabass with a white bean ragout and seafood risotto. Both were full of flavor and the fish was fresh. The risotto was one of the best I've ever had. Dessert was key lime pie, which did not disappoint. The service was friendly and timely and we really enjoyed the casual atmosphere. I will absolutely be back here! more

Great customer service and the ambience was romantic 9/2/2007

We were a party of 6, and tried 5 of the main courses. My wife and I both had the Snapper. The Red Wine sauce was a little sweet for my taste, but the Snapper didn't need any enhancement . It was very tasty seasoned as it was. The mixed carrots and squash were cooked al dente, leaving the taste that is sometimes steamed out of vegetables. The mashed potatoes were smooth and tasty. My 10 year old granddaughter had the most tender and tasty churrasco steak that I have tasted in the Miami area (I had to try it), and it was the first time she has ever finished that large a steak. My 12 year old grandson had the Seafood Risotto, and he polished that off in record time. My Son-in-Law had the Salmon, and he seemed to enjoy it. My Daughter had the Filet Mignon, and she enjoyed it to no end. She didn't like the arrugula vegetable mix, but my Son-in-Law did. The only thing left on our plates, was some of the yellow rice mixed w/peas and veggies on my Granddaughter's plate. Although she complimented the taste (this from a girl who would rather have plain white rice), it was too large a portion for a 10 year old girl to finish. Pros: Very romantic and the service is excellent Cons: A little pricey for routing dining, more for special occasions more

Great ambience, poor food 5/6/2006

Clearly you pay for the location and The food we all found to be average to poor. For the price there are much more palletable meals elsewhere in the city. Pros: location, romantic setting, friendly staff Cons: poor food, overpriced, poor food more

Great ambiance, service, and food! 2/4/2006

We visit Red Fish every time we visit Miami and we always receive exceptional service and the food is always great. Pros: atmosphere, fresh local sfood, views of city Cons: popularity more

A Hidden Pearl 9/26/2003

A romantic hide-away in Matheson Hammock Park particularly dining outdoors on the patio as the sun sets and the evening begins with good food, reasonable prices and good service. Pros: romantic setting, good views, good food & service Cons: road signage more

Excellent! 3/9/2003

Food, wine, ambience, and service was THE BEST! Would really recommend this romantic restaurant. I love it! Pros: food, service, ambience more

TERRIBLE FOOD 2/18/2003

I WENT TO THIS PLACE BASED UPON THE IDEA OF BEING NEXT TOTHE WATER. THE VIEW WAS NOT BAD ALTHOUGH I COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. WE ORDERED OUR FOOD (REGULAR PASTA DISHES) MY PLATE HAD 3 OR 4 PIECES OF SEA FOOD, THE PASTA HAD NO TASTE AND IT WAS COLD. MY HUSBAND WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER EITHER. I WILL NEVER GO BACK NOR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. more

grill should go 10/21/2002

Atmosphere may be pretty but I can sit on a beach and get a view. Food very mediocre-nothing was outstanding but the prices Pros: view, parking Cons: poorly prepared food, nothing unusual, desserts too commerci more
