never going back 6/17/2008

i have been to the Ram several times in the last year, and every single time i think that next time it HAS to be better. Then i go again and its much worse than the time before. thursday night, June 12th 2008, 4 of us arrived seperatly, 2 of us about 15 minutes before the others. We ordered food and drinks, then when the other 2 showed up we moved over to the corner pool table. 35 minutes later the server brought us waters and said he would be right back as i was in the middle of placing another drink order for a friend. another 10 minutes went by and we got our burgers (which were TERRIBLE) and the other 2 people that were with us hadnt ordered yet since the server never came back. another 20 minutes went by and finally the waiter returned stating,""oh, sorry, i forgot you guys were still here, thank god long island ice teas are $2.50 tonight"". what? so he asks how everything was, we say bad, so he takes our plates and says he will be back. about 5 minutes later a girl drops off our bill and leaves. we wait another 20 minutes for him to come back to get change, and he never did. so we left the check on the table with NO TIP. we then went across the street to Manzana since none of us at our food at Ram and we were STARVING at this point and had the best tortilla soup you will find in Portland. Pros: nothing Cons: horrable service, bad food, really smokey more

Great Atmosphere. Great Pool Tables. Great Beer. 4/10/2008

This place is way under-rated. I think that everyone who loves this place wants to keep it a secret so they refuse to write a good review. This place is beautiful. Right on the water. Great tvs and sport viewing. I love to play pool. They have nice tables. I love beer. They have quality beers and full bar. Do not listen to these other reviews. Maybe you will wait five extra minutes for your food, but all other aspects are unbeatable. I only hang out in the upper-bar-part of the place, so maybe the restaurant area is terrible or something? Go figure. And try this place out. Pros: Great atmosphere. Right on the water. Beers are flowing. Cons: All these other reviews... more

Burgers and fries OK, not much else 3/9/2006

I went for lunch with a friend. She ordered the coconut shrimp and I got a burger and fries. Her first plate of shrimp was almost completely uncooked - the shrimp were gray and nearly raw. She very nicely informed the waitress, and a second plate came a few seconds later, nearly as raw. She sent it back again, giving up. While this was going on, we ordered alcoholic beverages from the bar, and had to wait nearly 15 minutes for our drinks. Mind you, the place was not packed. We finished our first drink and when we ordered the second drink, the wait was even longer. While the drinks and the burger and fries were OK, and they did try to make up for things by giving my friend a comped dessert, it was still a below-average experience and I will not be going back. Pros: Location, View Cons: Long Wait, Uncooked Shrimp more

Needs an active manager 5/28/2005

It is a sports bar, family dining place. Their prices recently went up 25% for things like a hamburer and fries, $7.50 okay, $9.50 you have to wonder. There was not enough staff to serve, or cook. There were plenty of emply tables, but a 40 minute wait? The girls trying to take names for the list and seat people tried hard, but without a manager to keep things organized, the evening became iritating. My wife and I went upsatairs to the pool room and bar and could not get a server, although three walked by. I finally went to the bar and immediately got a drink. It was chaos, but they weren't that busy. I've been here 25 times in 5 years, it's a nice location on the water. I will think twice about coming back. Too bad, it has a lot of potential, but it needs a manager. Pros: on the water, IPA beer Cons: food, price, service more

Try it again! 2/24/2005

Quite a few of the reviews here are old. I can only speak to the last couple of years. I've probably dined here 15 times over that period, always had good service, always really enjoyed the food and sports bar ambience. Great place to take the family to, a) eat while watching a sporting event or, b) sit outside (down on the river is best) and enjoy the view. My last waiter carried large glasses of beer on his head to his tables. Very impressive! :) Make reservations if you want to sit on the dock. Pros: ambience, price, menu more

I love it! 9/24/2004

David was great! the guy is amazing. After a great dinner (the fish tacos on the seasonal menu) and drinks that were perfect, we went upstairs where Emilia helped us have a good time. With the DJ playing in the corner and the house music thumping in my ears we partyied until 1:30 and we left when there was still people coming in. Awesome deck and great food Pros: Servers, Food, Ambience Cons: , No advertisements more

capt Lono 7/1/2004

Horrible service on two visits. I wonder if the food is good when it is warm? What a neat location for such a nasty restaurant. Don't waste your time...get some KFC and go sit on the grass on the river side of the restaurant. At least you won't have to put up with bad service... Pros: great location, nice facility Cons: , bad, old, dry food more

bad, bad Ram 2/17/2004

Worst service up or down. They not only forget your order, they also mix it up, then don't apologize. Too bad, cause it is a great location, especially during the summer. The food is sub standard, but I've had worse, and would go back if the service was acceptable. The staff is down right rude, and then you'll get a nice one with 1/2 a brain cell. Go figure, Lake O is full of hype. Bring back the Pointe! Pros: view, location Cons: , food, service more

Fun time 1/26/2004

First time at this new spot and it was great! Our friends had good food and the drinks actually had some punch to them, not watered down. Played pool and had drinks, a great change of pace for a Friday evening. One idea, make the upstairs non-smoking. This is Lake Oswego afterall, an intelligent, upscale community that can easliy accomodate this, then maybe next time I won't have to burn my clothes when I get home. Pros: Friendly, Good value Cons: , Smoking more

Won't ever return 5/14/2003

Warning! If you think you like the Ram, it has become one of the worst restaurants/breweries in Oregon. We waited over 2o"" to be seated, when we questioned them, they forgot us and made us wait another 10"", no apologies! The management could care less and only affords teenagers for servers, cooks and all staff. Their food &service have gone down the hill. It is a shame, the site is perfect for a great place, but with the prices and horrible service EVERY TIME, we won't go back, maybe we will hit the fast food joints, at least the food is palatable! I STRONGLY WARN YOU: stay away or you will regret it and agree with my review! Pros: Going out of business, location Cons: Food, Service, Price more

Horrible! 1/4/2003

With nearly as many employees as customers on a Saturday night, we waited 20 minutes to be seated when the place was 1/2 full. The manager/host did not tell us there would be a wait and never acknowledged us during the 20 minutes we stood rotting in the doorway. An abundance of waiters and the chef stood feet away and no one had the gumption to step in and ask if we were taken care of. We didn't complain to the manager because he was the problem. Once sat, he did not apologize for the wait. The meal concluded with another 20 minute wait in which we thought our waitress had left. Then 10 minutes passed while the waitress and manager tried to figure out how to deduct cash from our bill and split the difference on two credit cards. We felt like we aged 5 years in this place. Cons: Service more

It's a shame, as it could be great. 11/2/2002

The chicken quesadilla is great, and several of their other dishes too. However, service is where this place fails consistently. We've waited for extended periods of time when tables are available. While waiting, you see how long food sits before it actually arrives at the table. Last night we watched a delicious looking shrimp dish sit for 15 minutes (no warming lamp) while the waiter took a fresh duplicate elsewhere. Then, he returned to deliver the ""old"" one. I hope they were thrilled. Our appetizer was forgotten, we waited 35 minutes after ordering for our entrees, had to remind our waiter 3X about half our drinks, they were out of 5(!) different beverages (not beer) or entrees that we tried to order, and when the food arrived, half the entrees were cold. They have a great location, it is comfy and could be so much better with the right team!! Pros: atmosphere, comfortable, view! Cons: service, service, service more

Way underrated! $1.94 big horn beers! 8/1/2002

In no way could the place I went last night be the same place others were bellyaching about! I give it a high rating because they provided me and ten of my friends with a great time, and nobody spent more than $10. We dined and drank upstairs at the bar, where smoking was allowed, but not a single trace of cigarettes could be smelled in the air. The service was great, though our food arrived a bit late because it was dropped the first time on the way up the stairs. We were there from about 9:00 till 10:00 and all Big Horn beers (all delicately brewed, except for their hefeweizen, which was crap) were only $1.94. they also have 12 menu items for under $2!! i couldn't believe it. i will definately be returning to my new hitching post for the best chicken quesadilla i've ever had. Pros: inexpensive, cleanliness, not smokey more
