Along Sherman Oak's Ventura Blvd, The Psychic Eye Bookstore offers a calming environment to sink into a collection of curious tomes, fragrant oils, herbal ingredients for majick practices, hand-made items, greeting cards, wall hangings, lanterns, and more. My main gripe about the place has always been its lack of organization. Although it is always clean and tidy, I can't find anything specific there. If I want a book on a particular topic or by a particular author, I am better off going anywhere else. If I am OK poking thru their collection for things I did not plan on getting, I sometimes come out with a real gem. They do make it easy to look thru the inventory. I have purchased audio programs there that have been life-changing. They have some psychics there who are dead-on accurate and extremely helpful - not all of them, but the ones who last long-term are among the best I have met. They also offer classes. I have not taken any but hopefully I will. I regularly buy their essence oils, incense, and small gift items. Those interested in occult jewely will be delighted by the unique and comprehensive selection for a wide range of prices. I have bought their tapestries for tableclothes and bedspreads and enjoyed them a lot. The employees are mellow and unintrusive, polite and helpful when you have a question, but otherwise, they let you shop in peace. It is a great place to pull out of traffic and relax for a while. THe parking, however is dodgy, and you may have to park a few streets over to get a free spot. Besides the parking, the only thing keeping me from giving this icon a 5 star rating is the disorganization of the books. The used section is actually much better than the new section.
