The food made us sick and the waitress was very rude and had a bad attitude. If you don’t enjoy what you do don’t take it out on the customers!

The sushi chef and the waitess all treat you with a hearty hello. The experiance it like it has been for year. There are 3 Oki doki resturants which include Garden Grove, Costa Mesa, and Tustin. The food is excellent fresh and made to order the sushi chef Takashi is courteous and helpful in choosing the special for that day. Of course they have the regular menu but also they have special's daily.I recommend you try it for a great lunch or dinner experiance. Pros: Original Japanese style food and hospitality Cons: The resturant moving from garden grove more

ARROGANT KOREAN MANAGER & WAITRESS...HAVE WE BEEN RACIALLY DISCRIMINATED AT??? READ ALL REVIEWS BEFORE YOU GO!!! 8/2/2007

Couple of my friends are visiting Tustin, California, so we took them to our favorite Japanese place, Osaka Kappo Japanese Restaurant. Upon arrival...my wife and I with 4 other friends realized this is not the same great resturant we all love for the past couple years...the whole atmosphere is very different (even the sushi chief at the bar would greed you cheerfully and politely with the waitresses) It used to be an old Japanese couple where the wife was very polite to service and the husband was the sushi master! A waitress not only didn't greet us, but she pointed at an empty table and said "Sit!" As we were being seated, my buddy asked the waitress if the new management is Japanese...the waitress responded loudly "WE ARE KOREANS!", then my buddy curiously asked "Where did the old Japanese couple go?"...Guess what, now the manager/owner/skinny old Asian woman suddently rushed to our table and shouted "WHAT'S WRONG WITH KOREANS, WE'LL DO A BETTER JOB THAN JAPANESE!!!", then both of them ran into the back...leaving us 6 and 2 other tables' guests speechless!!! I have to say, we have absolutely nothing againest Asians! Matter of fact, we do pay great respect to the ones doing so well at what they do best...like the previous owners. We just stood up and left with no appetite to try out the food, that's if the sushi tastes like Korean, too; So did a couple whom was waiting to be seated at the door entry, they also witness the whole scene. Seriously, I really don't care if you are Korean or some other Asian race, if you want to operate a Japanese resturant...DO IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT! Oh, and to these Korean owners...CHANGE THE NAME! Don't give the good old Japenese style resturant a bad name!!! Name you place "No-Dog-Meat-Today Korean BBQ"!! Better yet, bring your Freak'n KOREAN PRIDE somewhere else!!! You are making us sick!!! What a shame!!! LISTEN, THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR NOT READING THE REVIEWS AT CITY SEARCH BEFORE YOU GO TO ANY PLACES!!! LEARN!!! Pros: Nothing!!! Current Korean owners are still benefiting from the fame from previous Japanese owners!!! Cons: ARROGANT, RUDE, & RACIEST MANAGEMENT!!! Note: Not all Koreans are bad as these!!! more

I know this is long, but do not go to this restaurant!!! Trust me!! 8/27/2006

This used to be my favorite restaurant; but last night we went in and found out it is now under new management. DO NOT BE FOOL!! This is NOT the same restaurant anymore!! We ordered all you can eat sushi when waitress told us she will give us 20% discount because it was 1 hour before their closing time and because it was my birthday. When food arrived we were shocked to see how ugly the once delicately done sushi looked. Right away I knew the owner changed. Sushi rice was hard, tasteless, and hot. It is not sushi rice (which should be mixed with rice vinegar, sugar and always cold.) when we consulted the waitress, she told me customer complained to her the rice was too vinegary, so they adjusted the quantity. The size of the rice they used under the sushi was RIDICULOUS!! These rice were as big as my palm. The spicy tuna hand roll was a mess!! Seaweed wrapper was wet and rice was coming out from everywhere. We told the waitress again that we dont want to waste food so if she can told the chef to reduce the rice. She was very nice and checked with chef but came back and told us NO, because this was all you can (which means they want to stuff you with rice so you order more.) By this time we were disappointed at the food and their attitude, all we wanted to do was finish and leave. The waitress came back and told us not only she couldnt give us the discount, she is going to charge us 20% for the left over food. To make the experience worst, an older woman came out from the kitchen, looking arrogant and stared to argue with us!! One other customer told us he is very disappointed because the Udon tastes awful. Even his 8 years son could not stomach it. I have NEVER seen one sushi restaurant that is more sloppy and shameless. From service, raw material, execution, everything was an awful experience that I do not wish anyone else to experience. If anyone knew where the original owner moved to, please let me know!! Cons: food and service more

under new mgmt...cost cutting everywhere, including quality!!!!! 7/9/2006

this was a favorite of mine, until dropped in over the weekend, and discovered NEW OWNERS!!! talked me into getting the all-u-can-eat sushi and rolls for $16.95, claiming it's the same as ordering separately. turns out they cut the sushi paper thin and place on top of a heaping amount of rice. so, definitely not the same as ordering separately. sushi chefs should always take pride in their work and creations. this one gave me the feeling he's only looking after the bottom line. And no a/c, outside's mid-80's was cooler than inside the restaurant. Pros: Don't go. Previous owners retired. Cons: cash only, no a/c, new mgmt more

BEST JAPANESE RESTAURANT IN OC 7/15/2004

I have been a loyal customer of Osaka Kappo for 7 years. The food is very authentic and the sushi is very fresh. The owner of the restaurant works there, and she greets everyone that she sees. In order to eat here on a busy night... it is expected that you wait a little longer. BUT it's worth it! I strongly recommend any sushi lover to visit this place. You'll get hooked! Pros: Great Food, Friendly more
