Ever changing museum 8/20/2005

We've been going to this museum for years, and there's always new things too look at. I never fail to get lost either! There's so many little turns and stuff to take, and a lot of the main portion has an open floor plan with displays throughout so if you are not careful, you can miss things. They have a children's exploration area, they have a 9-11 tribute, they have gems and rocks, and the ever changing art exhibits and special exhibits. They also have special programs that they run throughout the year. You can take the elevator to the 4th floor of the museum and get something to eat, sometimes with a little music at lunch time, and the carousel is on that floor. more

Many of the exhibits have not changed since I was a child - but that is what I LIKE about the NYS Museum. It's the old standards that make it feel like home (all the animals in the Adirondack section, the wooly mammoth, the train car and Sesame Street!). The Discovery Room is a fun diverstion for the younger kids who may be a bit bored by the museum. more

9/11 Memorium 8/2/2005

I went here last July for the fireworks and I went in there and I was amazed by the things they have in there. I seen old cars, old train, oil and gas pump. There were all sorts of things. I went a little further in there and I seen the 9/11 memorium. There was a firetruck that was under the towers and it was SO sad. They have plaques and helmets of fire fighters that died on 9/11. There is also a beam that was from one of the twin towers. It is a really interesting display. more

NYS Museum is great place for family! 7/20/2005

The NYS Museum in Albany is a GREAT place for the family. This museum is free! It is amazing they are able to do this. It is clean, modern and up to date. They have all sorts of things, animals, vehicles, even a truck from the trade center and additional items from the 9-11 attacks. There is a lovely old carousel also there for $1 the kids can ride. There is a kids area with fun things for the kids to do- hands on. They also have special days with activities for the family. The museum now even hosts birthday parties for kids- the price is very reasonable. The only downfall is that it is impossible to goto the museum during the week because there is little to no parking because of the state workers! Weekends are no problem! more
