Many years ago, this club was all the rage. Members went on organized rallies and it had a large following. Today, the web site has watered down to a daily blog site, the members only section is rarely updated and the original founder ""Matt Farah"" is no longer present. The club is now run by ""Larry Kosilla"" who is the President. Some of the club members reminisce a time when the club was well organized, had a run or two a month and was more involving. Today, the club has resorted to bringing more attention to the detailing portion of the business - the bread and butter of what NYMC is really about. Larry is smart in that sense to create a club, charge big money to become a member and open up a shop to detail cars for big coin but he doesn't realize (or maybe he does) that he is letting down members who pay for rallies. Larry charges members $850+ in yearly dues to be a member of the club but this does not include even a free t-shirt or an occasional free lunch hosted by the club. Instead, every few months, you get a mass email from Larry about an upcoming ""NYC Ego Run"" (search youtube for videos) and about 10-14 old school members show up and tear through times square. This and the blog (as there are many interesting car posts) is probably the best thing the club has going for it. Should it cost $850+ to join? That's your choice, depending on how deep your pockets are and how irresponsible you're with money.
As for the membership application, they make you give your insurance/license info as well as your address and everything else. Then when you ask what the membership fee intails, larry writes in an email:
""What the fee ""gets you"" is access to influencial people who are leaders in their respective fields. Driving events, party's, car shows, rallies, hang-out nights etc...are very much secondary to the chance to meet this group of people.""
Very much secondary to the chance to meet this group of people? wait a minute, I am not interested in meeting these people, just give me car rallies, isn't that what NYMC is known for anyway?
For your information, I have not been influenced by anyone in the club. There are some very nice people in the club, some of them my friends till this day but I would not pay $850+ to meet people. The club members are just your normal every day folks. As for the club members, they are all nice as I mentioned but Larry makes it seem that it is because of them you should join the club. Quite frankly, you can walk to wall street any day of the week and meet bankers, stock brokers and the lot all for free.
If you're considering joining NYMC be aware that it will be a waste of your money as you will always be wanting more and often feeling a sense that you've been had for your money. Instead, go join a forum and meet great people in your community
I had high hopes for this club but I've been let down.
